The scallop on just the one side is superb! Made from pic myth is 'plausible'... Allows you to park it closer to other bikes in your garage.

Make sure you use a Yamaha replacement bearing for that, long story but I accidently fitted a diferent bearing and couldn't select all gears and had to strip and rebuild engine. I torque the top bolts, then losen off with normal spanner and retighten so I get the feel for strength required then try to repeat on the lower nuts. Hope that makes sense.

It's one of those jobs worth paying someone £15 to do for you!

^^^^ that one. Its not worth saving a tenner on a crappy copy unless you absolutely know what you are buying.

Ronnie, it's worth buying a Haynes manual, and whilst not 100% correct it covers most things well like this. If you can afford a genuine cable, buy that as can save a lot of time, otherwise but best you can. Once you have changed it, hopefully you will be motivated to try other maintenance tasks, and slowly you will build up an expertise. Luckily these bikes are quite basic and can be maintained and rebuilt by those with some mechanical sympathy and keenness to learn. Good luck with it, and enjoy your ride outs.

Don't forget the original clocks over read by maybe 10% so would prob show 110 on the original clock instead of 99 on an accurate GPS.

I had had this recently it was the greens mixed up in the headlight Yep, done that. Similar colour bullets in the headlight to cause mischief!

That could be the one I bought as described as NOS. Clearly wasn't and got a full refund. Seller seemed genuine and didn't realise I think.

You can do it yourself, but I would advise a 2nd pair of hands and eyes. Pipe lagging for me to and tape up the exhaust studs. Take carbs off. I also drain the oil and remove any covers in situ just to keep weight down. Its fairly straight forward. Good luck.

Unless the 1980 frame was different, ie without the screw holes for the coil cover mounting, then surely the cover would have been provided, as how would they have known that a cover may be needed later.

You have a coil cover so that's a good thing at least!

Alan did a great effort with them, but you still need to bond them to a central boss as they only the orange part of the needle, and they are too 'orange' compared to the originals so you need to fit to tacho and speedo at the same time if you want a matched pair. I have a few I trialled for him and bonded to the boss which if anyone would like I'd let go for a nominal sum, but most my customers prefer original style although I can only provide S/H ones as can't find new, but actually this is OK as most have faded a bit since 1980s so match OK.

Statistics show that 86% of all LC's have a bit of wire coathanger wound around the header behind the flange to take up any free play.. welcome to the forum marti . And 92% of the coat hanger owners are furious with there partners about this.

Hi guys, well I'm still slowly working my way though the new bike, lots of stuff being sorted and changed, but super happy with it. Just noticed my rev counter has no needle, is it repairable, as iv never had lc clocks apart. Cheers Dave. flic.kr/p/2pBmQFDYes I can sort that for you, have some spare needles and we'll used to opening and repairing these.

I'm seeing this sort of thing in business in the UK, it's as if a lot of the big companies have a department for coming up with a constant barrage of new requirements to make it not viable to work with them. It's all very odd. I was in the Barbers on Tuesday having me wig trimmed, and I noted he hadn’t put his prices up since 2020, he said “ I won’t do it mate, people have got enough on their plates without me adding to it”. I appreciate he’s only a small business, but I thought that was really refreshing to hear, given that most service providers have increased costs to the end user, sighting increased energy costs etc, and we just have to accept it. Rather than increase his prices I bet he just cuts 5% less off! Another example of shrinkflation lol.

Pre-galvanised steel. Can be easily laser cut, my previous company lasered it all the time. Doesn't really rust, seems to seal the dege as it cuts. If you worried you can put a special paint which we used to brush over welds, and sometimes touch up raw edges. Just a thought. Nice work though.
