Hi just wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction I have a 31k but using 1ua carbs standard air box & Jl pipes, what would be a good starting place with carb jets please, seems to run ok but with using gps she will not go over 99mph, would this be jet issue or float height or even small bore petrol pipe🤷♂️ thanks in advance👍

Hi and welcome
A few things could be going on here
Firstly, what main jets are in it as if it's too rich it will stiffle the top end
I'd have guessed a ball park setting of 2 sizes up so 205/210 ish but ideally only a dyno will tell
I'd like to also see the results of a compression test to see how healthy the bores are
Is there any rebuild history of the engine

Also, it's unlikely to be fuel pipe, the standard 6mm OD stuff is plenty
If it was fuel starvation I'd expect it to be dying holding full throttle at speed

Don't forget the original clocks over read by maybe 10% so would prob show 110 on the original clock instead of 99 on an accurate GPS.

Agree with above but I'd expect a healthy 31k to do over a genuine 100 mph
PV link worn or valves not operating properly will limit top end too

Yeah, GPS kills our teenage stories I could easily top 125mph on my 350R... "on the clocks". I bet it was 110ish really.

All things being equal if you use the same iffy measurement devices then the truth is in the comparison and not the numbers? (or something...)

We're all just guessing and my guess is the power valves are closed. 99 mph clock speed is pretty poor for a YPVS. What's it like in the lower gears? What does it rev to? Should be 9,500 or 10,000. I'd have thought 99mph in top would be 7/8,000?

You are using all the gears? Im asking as there is a long story (reported on here) from many years back when a mate bought another mates' dad's bike and he was used to a 4 gear bike so topped it in 'top gear'... and was saying it was slow... took a while to work out that he was only 4 of the 6 gears.
Not saying youre doing that... but worth asking after said event.
What revs are you seeing at 99mph?

All things being equal if you use the same iffy measurement devices then the truth is in the comparison and not the numbers? (or something...) There were big differences between similar and identical bikes. My mate on his RD500 said that we were doing 120 and my F2 speedo never showed over 110. My mates X7 Speedo showed 110 when mine displayed 80! He just thought his X7 was exceptionally fast 😁. We used to say when people came up with wild speed figures that they must have had their Speedo tuned by Stan Stephens.
