Thanks mutts,so just to ask ,is the measurement taken from the lowest point in that gap or does the ruler sit on that small ridge that runs between the 2 holes? Sorry to be such a perfectionist but these things need to be exact

Hi all, when setting the float height to the correct 21mm on my 4l1-00 250 Lc carbs, is the measurement taken from where the gasket fits in the resess or is it taken from the outside lip of the main carb body which obviously sits a few mm higher than the actual gasket face ? Many thanks, Shaun

Legends only sell 2 piece hoses and not the single length hose and yambits hoses don’t have the protective rubber cover only springs, The one i got made was only£26.56 so good value and only 10 minutes to make

Thanks for the replies guys, much appreciated, Since found out that it is about 785mm so you were quite accurate with your measurements. Must give a big shout out to Carlton Hydrolics in Rotherham S65 1SU 01709 378999. Went over to see if they could make me an original looking hose , me thinking that i may have to wait at least a couple of days ,but no, hey presto 10 minutes later I was walking out with a nice new hose freshly made while i wait, complete with rubber cover as per original, all pressure tested as well. Would advise if possible to take sample hose or at least some photos , that way they can copy the orientation for the couplings etc, proper nice people they were and would not hesitate to recommend.

Just wondering if anyone knows the exact length of the standard front brake hose for the 250lc, trying to get one made up but don’t have an original to use as an example. Many thanks, Shaun

The bearing that was in when i acquired the bike had no shield and was a koyo bearing, the one I got from Fowler’s has a shield and is Yamaha genuine so can only assume they must now come with the shield

Got the oil seal in now with the bearing seated so should be good to go.. good point regarding the oil needing to lube the bearing.. I think whoever had the bike previously had installed the bearing the wrong way round... cheers guys.

Also with this water pump bearing, should the plastic cover side face towards the water side or does it not matter,?Haynes manual states serial numbers towards the outside, the serial numbers on this new bearing are on the plastic cover side but when i removed the old bearing the numbers were facing towards the engine away from the water . Hope you don’t mind me asking such trivial questions but its the first time that I’ve opened up one of these engines so still learning!!

Hi, just installing my water pump seal on 250lc and just wondered.. does the seal have to fit tight to the inner edge of the case or not?.. just asking because if I do fit it tight then it will overlap the water channel slightly which may restrict the flow of coolant, or is it installed with the seal level with the water Chanel? It is a genuine Yamaha seal from Fowler’s. Also the genuine Yamaha bearing fits real easy into the housing.. almost too easy.. is this normal or would it be better to put some bearing lock in? by the way the old bearing came out without too much bother , it wasn’t a tight fit at all. Any advice from the experts would be greatfully received.

When you have removed the damper rings and then put it all back together let us know if it has cured the problem, would be nice to know for future reference....good luck!!

Does anyone know what these damper rings are meant to do?....just what do they dampen? I bought some of norbos power plates and removed these rings, like you mollers I had the same problem, but I cannot say if it has cured the issue yet because the bike has not yet been run.Just hoping by removing the rings though that this doesn’t create another problem.!!

Anyone know of a good aqua blaster in Yorkshire area,? I need my carbs and fuel tap cleaning. Also do the Lc wheels respond well to aqua blasting or would it be too harsh for the alloy, i need the rims cleaning before i paint the centres but I am trying to avoid the really shinny look that metal polish and wet and dry would create.

To be honest the paint nowadays is not what it used to be , I’m taking my 250 Lc engine cases to triple s powder Coaters in Bingley,West Yorkshire tomorrow be blasted and powder coated in satin black, the sample he showed me in the shop looks real nice, and is a proper satin finish, and according to form this guy seems to have a real good reputation.

If in doubt always renew, small price to pay for piece of mind, and much cheaper than a broken crankcase.

I just got some genuine Yamaha steel plates from norbo and they measure 1.18mm, don’t know what the wear limit is though, the friction plate wear limit is 2.7mm.Hope this helps.

Took my clutch apart today, and rubber rings are all there,so will remove as advised
2 of the steel plates have very slight warpage when placed on a flat surface ,but I must admit it is only minimal, but while it’s apert will probably replace those as well
Some of the fibre plates have worn down to 2.6mm in places but then measure 2.8 mm in another place,I think the tolerance for these is 2.7mm so they are borderline.
And finally the springs measure 33.7mm maximum ,with the worst being 33.3mm,and I think the maximum tolerance is 33.9 according to Haynes manual
Only very slight ridges found on basket and center hub which can easily be filed down
So I think it’s best to replace the whole lot, just for pease of mind.
There must be a cheaper hobby than this.....lol

So, just to clarify regarding these cushion rubbers, do we remove all of the cushion rubbers totally and not use any at all ?or do we start with one cushion rubber , then friction plate, then steel , then friction , then steel and so on until the stack is complete?
Need to be 100% sure with this before i start

Ah, just checked the diagram on Fowler’s website and yeh 1 ring between each plate, will check mine tomorrow, and will remove if fitted, worth a try.
