Ladsβ¦β¦ I am seeking your advice on fitting a set of 1UA power jet carbs to my standard 350 4L0.
Is any modification required to the inlet ports on the barrel?, would pv carb rubbers fit on the 4L0 barrels etc?.
And finally, are the gains of fitting them worth doing?, I'm not really looking for more power, just better delivery.
Any thoughts/comments would be welcome.

Chaps, Open question : Is it possible and if so is there any benefit from fitting 31K forks into a 4LO?. I read the stanchions are slightly thicker than the earlier 250/350 lc's. I'd like to keep the standard look and thought they'd flex less. Would the standard 4LO calipers fit the 31K lowers, and would the discs be aligned?, I intend to use the standard wheel if poss.
Your thoughts and comments are welcomed and always appreciated.

My choke side is 4l1 my clutch side is 4lo ; but all internals ; jets etc are the same ; I haven't checked the needle jet yet The needle jets (emulsion tube) fitted to both 4L1-00 & 4L0-00 carbs are the same but the needles are different. The air jets are also different. OEB Good knowledge there OEB, that's why I love this forum, every day's a school day!. I've learnt something and it's not even 10.15 am!.

Howard, Just wanted to echo your comments about Nick.
He did the same for me, and the item in question arrived promptly and extremely carefully packaged. I have been overwhelmed at times by members of this forum, for their help and generosity, it restores your faith in a society that is all about profit and greed.
Thanks lads, you know who you are ππ

Thanks Steve/Gav, It seems the way to go is, soda blast externally and Deox c internally then!.
With the tank being 35 years old now, and not the thickest gauge metel when new, it makes sense to clean it the least aggressive way possible.
Thanks for the advice / suggestions chaps, as ever the forum lads have come up with the answer.

Thanks for that info Paul, not heard of that before?, I don't really want to spend good money on paintwork to find it getting wrecked a few weeks later. Is it possible to soda blast the inside of a tank do you reckon?.

Lovely looking result. But IMO that Panel beating work is Decidedly frightening. As for the Swiss cheesed tank; A competent panel beater with Lead filling skills could likely resurrect that nicely. Unlikely that skill level/hours required would be Cheap though You're right Bare, It won't be cheap. We have guys at work capable of lead loading, but they can't use actual lead now (health and safety), and the replacement stuff is frankly crap.

Most things are repairable What a stunning transformation mate!. I'd be worried about getting the metal too hot and distorting the tank by attempting a repair like that.

Had a tank dipped at the powder coaters to remove filler, paint and tank liner , it came back much better than I thought it would look and was only 24hr turn round . Did you re-coat the inside Howard?, I have heard flash rusting is an issue.

Thanks for all of your responses lads, seems as though results are varied. If my tank comes back like a Swiss cheese, are they repairable?, or just scrap?

Evening Gentlemen,
Have any of you used the company Enviro-Strip at Tamworth?, they are a chemical dip/stripping company, and I'm thinking of having my tank done there, but am worried that some people have had bad experience with rust/crap in the tank internals after having this process done (not at Enviro-Strip ) as far as I'm aware.
Any feedback or input gratefully received from you as ever.

You could get the tank chemically stripped so you can see any holes, then repair and seal with POR-15. Can you recommend anywhere that does the chemical stripping process mate?

Can you obtain the round shiney plates with a slot for the key for lc seat locks ? Uhhhh.. Exactly what !? Round Shiny plates for LC seat locks. Never seen such. What model Yamas? Hi Bare, I'm guessing it's the stainless, circular disc, that covers the top of the lock barrel, with the slot for the key to go through. 2 of mine look pretty butchered. Good luck if you can sort them lads, put me down for a set.

I was up against it in mid week, when I needed 4 clutch dampers for the LC550. Both "Daves" stepped up to the plate, and helped me out no end. I think there's enough people moaning in this world, but when people do you a favour and "get it right" I like to mention it.
So, thanks again chaps, really appreciated Ditto Mate, both top blokes, both helped me out when it was most needed.

Hi chaps, mine has a different pattern tool for adjustng the monoshock unit?. Weirdly it has x2 spoke adjusters cut into the handle. I just assumed Yamaha used a generic tool, the same as the DT125/175 MX's of the day?. Maybe mines wrong π?.

Hi All Just checked into a Travelodge near Eastbourne on my way down to France for a short break. The guy at reception rides an R6, a lovely 2002 example, so we chatted for some time. Of course I told him about reaching the final stages of a bike restoration and he asked what bike it was. The guy was probably in his late twenties at a guess, but when I announce 'oh, it's probably before your time and you won't know it', I still hoped he would. 'It's an RD350 Powervalve', says I, but the blank expression said it all. 'What cc is it?' says he. 'It's a 350 2-stroke. It wouldn't be allowed these days due to emission laws' says I. 'But I grew up on these sort of bikes. They come from a time when we had to do maintenance on bikes ourselves, because they weren't as reliable as they are now.' I got the normal response from his generation that he wouldn't have a clue even how to change a spark plug, which I told him I found a great shame. The point of this post is that I still can't accept that younger bikers have never heard of our bikes. This is the second time it has happened with strangers in the space of a couple of weeks Does anyone else get disheartened by similar experiences? The problem here is that although I'm 52 I still feel 25 years younger, and experiences like this don't help! Hi Al, Couldn't agree with your post more π. We had bikes as daily transport "in the day" and as a consequence, had to learn to maintain and repair them. It is the accepted practice that on turning 17 now, your offspring expect a car for their birthday, usually (if it's a daughter) it'll be a mini with a personalised registration, and also expect a university education as a birthright. There was a glimmer of hope last year when we had a new apprentice start, he had a KTM motocrosser and in his own words was "mad keen" on bikes, he told us about his expoits riding in enduro's with his father etc, and all was well until he asked me how to adjust the chain on his mates CG125 π. As a 15 year old I bought a KH250 as a frame, pair of wheels and 3 tea chests full of parts. I put it back together without the aid of a manual, and it may not have looked very pretty, but it ran well enough, and I sold it making enough to buy my first LC, a white/blue 350, (also in bits!). The difference between then and now is necessity, modernist kids don't NEED a bike or NEED to know how they work, our apprentices are more interested in facebook, twitter or online gambling, than finding out what makes things go and stop I'm afraid. It's a very sad state of affairs.
