Steve,
I am about to do the same to one of my tanks (deox c), what did you rinse yours out with?, and how do you stop it flash rusting afterwards?.
Would really appreciate any advice!. I did use malt vinegar in a ZX9 tank once, and it came up brilliant, even left the surface with a matt grey "etched" appearance.

Be very cautious mate, Same thing happened to me via MCN classifieds when I sold my KTM. It's probably west African or Eastern Europe based, I just ignored their contact in the end.
Another one is putting money into a post office account (buyer or seller) as a goodwill/deposit, and hey presto, your half vanishes!.

As bear said fit the bronze bushes mate. I have used bronze bushes on all mine 2 x lc 1 31k and never had any problems over 20 plus years. As ever, invaluable advice steeley, makes sense not to have to worry every time the MOT comes around!. My main concern was the possible wear to the spindle, but from what you guys say the positives outweigh the negatives. Many thanks bezzer

Evening Men,
Any thoughts or experience with phosphor bronze swinging arm bushes on a 4L0?.
I appreciate it is a "soft" material, but is it more likely to wear the spindle, as opposed to the standard nylon bushes?. Not sure what to do, as I assume the nylon is sacrificial to a degree, to the benefit of the spindle.
As ever, any input from you chaps greatly appreciated.

eBay is ok…… until you have a problem, trying to navigate their site never yields the answer you want, and often when customer services get back to you, they don't understand uk law ☹️ Just hope anyone interested in the bike reads your post fozzy.

Thanks Dusty / Holty,
Installation does look neat mate, it makes sense to fit both the shift pro and star at the same time, if it improves the shift to that degree.
Great photos too holty, very much appreciated mate.

Thanks OEB,
As I understand it then, there would be no point in exchanging my shift star for a banshee one if they are the same part?, other than mine has 30,00 miles of wear on it! Lol.
Thanks too for the shift shaft part number cross reference, as mentioned earlier your advice is greatly appreciated.
I have a work colleague travelling to Atlanta soon, and thought I'd get him on the case while he's there!.
Best regards bezzer

Evening folks,
Read with interest the posts regarding difficulty selecting neutral. I have a 4L0, and have bought the modified shift shaft bush from Norbo, will go with the 75/85 light gear oil advice, and would also like to go down the modified shift star mod route.
Can anyone tell me which model year of Banshee shift star is the best to use?, and also does anyone know if the 31K shift shaft shares the same part number with the 4L0?.
As ever your advice is greatly appreciated chaps.

Good heads up mate, may save a genuine buyer some expensive heartache 😐. Sad you had to go so far to find out it was not as advertised, good luck finding a "right" one.

Hi All, I know this thread has been done to death, but on joining this brilliant forum I had the good fortune to be put in touch by a fellow member, with Arrow regarding rebuilding/refurbishing the oil pump on my 4L0. He won't thank me for saying any of this as he's such a modest bloke, but his service, knowledge and attention to detail is nothing short of fantastic. My bike had undergone an engine rebuild/refresh at a Yamaha dealer in the South of England, just before I bought it, rebore, pistons, crank rebuilt etc, and had covered less than 100 miles of careful running in when I bought it. Fast forward, ahem a year or two!, with the mileage unchanged, I sent the pump off to Mr Arrow, who found on inspection the oil delivery to be minus 20% at rest. Obviously the dealer hadn't attempted to even check the oil delivery was something like. I would urge all forum members rebuilding their pride and joy not to overlook this vital piece of equipment from a point of safety and expense. Thanks to Arrow and all forum members for all of their help and advice so far, it is very much appreciated.

Ditto justyr, the difference in mains between 225 and 250 is so slight, adjusting the needle leaner will at least confirm you are heading in the right direction.

Hi folks,
Can anyone advise me of any pitfalls to note whilst carrying out refurbisment of my clockset?. I'm hoping to fit new clock face decals, and paint the needles, so any advice (especially on the best paint for the needles) and opening up the clocks would be very much appreciated.

Just done some investigation. The magazine was simply called "Mechanics", the article was in the November 1984 issue, and even says on the front cover "backyard RD500LC, is it real?". I so wanted it to be.…………
