Evening folks,
Read with interest the posts regarding difficulty selecting neutral. I have a 4L0, and have bought the modified shift shaft bush from Norbo, will go with the 75/85 light gear oil advice, and would also like to go down the modified shift star mod route.
Can anyone tell me which model year of Banshee shift star is the best to use?, and also does anyone know if the 31K shift shaft shares the same part number with the 4L0?.
As ever your advice is greatly appreciated chaps.

The 4L0/1 & YPVS shift shaft part numbers are both superspeed by 2GU-18101-00 HTH OEB

Thanks OEB,
As I understand it then, there would be no point in exchanging my shift star for a banshee one if they are the same part?, other than mine has 30,00 miles of wear on it! Lol.
Thanks too for the shift shaft part number cross reference, as mentioned earlier your advice is greatly appreciated.
I have a work colleague travelling to Atlanta soon, and thought I'd get him on the case while he's there!.
Best regards bezzer

Hi Some guys modify their own by grinding down the points of the star. I've got a link to a pic somewhere I will try and find for you. Dusty

Thanks Dusty / Holty,
Installation does look neat mate, it makes sense to fit both the shift pro and star at the same time, if it improves the shift to that degree.
Great photos too holty, very much appreciated mate.

Actually there is NO need/benefit in fitting the bearinged Star follower... Unless you want to :-) That's mere Brochure Babble. The oem one is perfectly adequate to purpose and ALL one needs on a modded star.. in the Very least, it has far less Hill climbing to do :-) The stars should / could be 'rounder' on the star than those in the Photo above... for even better effect. Half measures please few. It's the Valleys betwixt the lumps that lock the gear. Peaks are merely impediments to selecting the next gear.

i agree the fact that the valley on the star holds it in gear, and maybe the wheel on the arm doesnt make much difference, but the spring on the shift pro kit is thinner than a stock item, and is softer,so when installed the star does change between gears easier with this modification, im pretty sure this was perfected in the states by people drag racing banshees. the original post was asking about finding neutral and i will say i can get neutral now, but not easily, ive fitted new clutch plates, and basket and bearings, it is a well know issue,i tend to pop mine into neutral before ive stopped. i suspect the proper fix would be the neutral valley on the star wheel being machined a bit lower down, so when it gets to neutral it stays there rather than going from 1st to second or vice versa, and missing out the neutral position, i might try that next time its in bits, maybe someone has already tried this and knows if it works.

Just have the shift pro spring kit in my hybrids , makes neutral selection a doddle , worth every penny imo , no need for the shift star mod ..
