Evening Gentlemen,
Have any of you used the company Enviro-Strip at Tamworth?, they are a chemical dip/stripping company, and I'm thinking of having my tank done there, but am worried that some people have had bad experience with rust/crap in the tank internals after having this process done (not at Enviro-Strip ) as far as I'm aware.
Any feedback or input gratefully received from you as ever.

No idea re that firm. Once had an Ali car hood 'stripped' at a similar (claimed Enviro place). Not a very effective job/ resultant surface Ended up having it Walnut shell blasted.. which I should have done in the first place. If I was Awake. Your firm could be exemplary dunnno. However IF de-rusting the tank innards only? Google how to DIY it electrically. Neatly/effectively/cheaply and easily.

I have used Bevlyn in Cradley Heath. They are do a good job for a good price :-)
You can also get Lee at Motopaint to prep and POR-15 the tank if you need it doing, as his unit is a few 100 yards from Bevlyn.

Woodstrip in Wolverhampton. Picked my Gamma frame up today. Chain lube and zinc coating all gone £30. They also did 2 Lc tanks for me. You might not like what you get back. Only solid metal remains. Couple of days turnaround wots wrong with that, nowt that abit of filler won't fix !!

I had a few tanks "dipped" at a place in Malmsbury. They did it while I waited - very good, excellent in fact. But as in a previous post, it will get rid of everything only leaving metal.... Gets all the crap out internally, so that's good....

Thanks for all of your responses lads, seems as though results are varied. If my tank comes back like a Swiss cheese, are they repairable?, or just scrap?

how much does it cost to have a tank dipped ?.. Depends...... If he has a batch of other things going in at once, he'll stick it in with them. £25-£40 last time I had some done....

Had a tank dipped at the powder coaters to remove filler, paint and tank liner , it came back much better than I thought it would look and was only 24hr turn round .

Most things are repairable What a stunning transformation mate!. I'd be worried about getting the metal too hot and distorting the tank by attempting a repair like that.

Lovely looking result. But IMO that Panel beating work is Decidedly frightening. As for the Swiss cheesed tank; A competent panel beater with Lead filling skills could likely resurrect that nicely. Unlikely that skill level/hours required would be Cheap though

We have guys at work capable of lead loading, but they can't use actual lead now (health and safety), and the replacement stuff is frankly crap.

I have seen issues with dipping/ chemical stripping on cars. After a period of time the chemicals left trapped in the seems can leach out causing paint and rust problems. I tend to stick to non aggressive blasting now mainly soda

Thanks for that info Paul, not heard of that before?, I don't really want to spend good money on paintwork to find it getting wrecked a few weeks later. Is it possible to soda blast the inside of a tank do you reckon?.

Thanks Steve/Gav, It seems the way to go is, soda blast externally and Deox c internally then!.
With the tank being 35 years old now, and not the thickest gauge metel when new, it makes sense to clean it the least aggressive way possible.
Thanks for the advice / suggestions chaps, as ever the forum lads have come up with the answer.

The chemical stripping does not weaken any sound steel, as it only removes the rust. I always go for the chemical stripping to get rid of all dirt, grease, paint, gunk from inside etc.

Having frames dipped can sometimes leave residue inside the frame tubes which can then accelerate corrosion
Think LC frames have a few drain holes in them though, but not all the tubes ?

Most things are repairable I've got one o'those , but it's got rust holes like the one above ,lol . I reckon one of Norbo's new ones would be cheaper than getting it fixed over here !
