Hi, If concerened about accuracy, buy a quality one with a calibration certifiacate. I know Britool do / did a calibration service if you want to send it back to them when the calibration certifiacate it comes with, runs out. In saying that, I dont think Britool as we know it exists any more, I believe they were bought out a few years back. Other quality brands ( with calibration certificates) are available. Steven. Mine had certificate paperwork with it now that you mention it, maybe mine is one of the more exy ones in today's market? It was an early one and I cant really remember what it cost.

Good progress Alex. As Chris says, youve got to keep pushing forwards while this is fixed.

Started and ran an LC last week on something like 6 or 7 year old fuel from an old Chainsaw... Its one of my saws so I know it was BP Ultimate and Elf high end 2T oil, but was starting to smell bad. Bike started 3rd kick.
Dont recommend it really but would rather do that than use brake clean... there is no oil in that!

With used values tumbling anyone who bought an EV with their own money must be wishing they hadn't. Here's an real life example, a 20 plate i-Pace HSE with 6ooomls on it bought in May 2021 for £59k, sold late 2022 for £53k, it'd now be worth whatever the mileage is £25k at best. The future my ar5e Yes Ive seen quite a bit written/vlogged about this recently. It seems most EVs sold were high end models and most were leased. Used dealers are staying away in droves as they cant see how good the battery is so cant judge how good 'the engine' is as the batt represents about 50% of the drivetrain etc. Some batts cost £10k+ Lets face it. Who leases a high end EV with no thoughts on keeping it and then charges it slowly and often... nah, they fast charge it every time from as low as it'll go. The batt health wont be good for the next guy, but they dont care... life = convenience of course. I get it, id do the same I expect. So with the trade staying away from these EVs, used prices have tumbled. It seems they are thinking 'Why take a risk? we know where we are with petrol/diesel' etc. The future is having a few growing pains and the customers are the ones paying for it.

A mate of mine's dad worked at the local Austin Rover dealer and a nice old chap traded in his mint low miles Allegro Vanden Plas and got next to nothing for it so it came home with him and we used it quite a bit. It was all burr walnut, wilton carpets and leather... whos weight made it even slower of course. It was amazing tho condition wise and must have been very exy when new. I dont recall him getting any birds cos of it... Tho nor did I in my mums Metro lol

Id get rid of the parts if youre not going to use them as others want/need them for their builds etc. People wont be building these bikes forever so storing them probably isnt the way forwards.
Also... IMHO, your bike is beautiful! I cant see someone thinking 'it would be better standard' etc.
If you do decide to ditch these parts please do contact me as I am in need of one straight handlebar and a friend of mine needs a battery cover plastic.

I think the cross checking is almost the most useful thing, if they both agree then you have a good idea that both are pretty close to right, or 'right enough'. That stops you binning a tool or paying a fortune to get it certified as a home mechanic.
I have a bunch of old school torque wrenches (ie small draper and large drapers and a recent cheap aldi large one I bought in their very cheap chuck outs to leave in the car) and all test fine against this which is cool as I did wonder about the drapers being older tools from the 90s and the aldi being so cheap.
Ive also tested torque extensions for doing wheel nuts and they test about right too - as expected.
But I dont know what version youre looking at. Mine was one of the ones when they were a new thing, 15 years back or so. that usually means decent quality so i bought one. But i cant comment on the newer/cheaper ones, only that the design was good and that its been useful.
Ive avoided the digital torque wrenches as once the electrics die they are useless.

One something like this? Then yes... I have one of the early ones when they first came out. I found it works well as a tester for other torque wrenches as well as for doing bolts up, but it is bulky.

Haha not me, mine had no issue when i floated the idea. Happened to mention that it'd be the most expensive piece of furniture in the house and would be more like an art work I just know others have issues...

Do the usual online sellers not have these? ISTR that they probably dont? If so, then maybe a Wanted ad?

I'll second what Dusty said about this kind of setback; This is just what building special bikes is all about. If it was simple and went to plan then everyone would do it.
The main thing is that it has to be safe, its your neck on the line and a bit of extra time isnt a huge issue.
While this work happens you can still fit the engine if you jack the bike up and chock it well.

Ahh ok, so I wasnt seeing things. Alex, you need to get this to a welder to have the whole underside of this part beefed up, if its thin then those stops could be ripped out in a crash, but more worrying is that the legs could part company with the stem area. That would be catastrophic and needs addressing. Not just where there are holes, but where its been filed and is now too thin for the forces. More work, but it will be stronger for it... and safe.

Yeah, I think that’s what stevesmith was refreshing to above as I forgotten to put the link to the slide. Check out all his stuff’s price, they are ridiculous. I know kidney clocks go for a lot, especially U.K. decent ones but has that really reached £825 plus £28.50 postage? What also makes me laugh is their description where they contradict themselves: without doubt nearly new!! You won’t be disappointed Please remember you’re buying a secondhand used 40 plus year old item not new!!Or what about this: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/276412419735?itmmeta=01HTSCCTG6QKJKRQBPPMPD7PVV&hash=item405b76ce97:g:prkAAOSwOuRj1tD~The they say: please study photos as form part of the description FSS, is in a bag so you can’t see it properly? Probably trying to put across its ‘newness’? Jon I did as you suggested regarding his pricing and found an LC oil tank cap for £9.50, Fowlers still sell them retail at £8.04! his was used I guess? One thing I would always advise new players to our hobby is to check the dealer. They might well have new ones still and them be cheaper than ugly used items, especially when you factor in postage.

I think the reason that works well is that youre basically bench bleeding it in situ, its what you do with larger master cylinders (ie cars and above) but we get away with just bolting an empty one on a bike mostly.

no with the nipple closed. Its to allow bubbles to come up into the master.
Have a search and read around on the forum about brake bleeding it will help.

hold the pedal down overnight and see if that helps.
Also when bleading take the caliper off and turn it over and around to get the air into the area by the nipple.
The rear can be a pain to do.

Id agree with Dusty, you had this mad to fit IIRC so it should be fine in which case its just something not seated right.
FWIW when you have it apart again. Give it a good clean... all those filings wont do the ball bearings any good as there is no seal under the bearing... Might be worth seeing if the LC rubber ones fit?

The Aussie sellers are pumping the prices of stuff here as well. Sure we dont have much local stuff now, but wow they seem to think its all gold plated... its more like turds rolled in glitter. However, this isnt a turd, it is gold... but wow that's a lot of money just to have your pump 'now' and jump Gary's queue. www.ebay.com.au/itm/134851486992He actually has 4 pumps listed, all Arrow refurbs.
