I must have missed that one. Seems a shame to cut down a perfectly good one but needs must. Thanks, I'll have a go at that one. Phil

Those pipes look super cool. Loving the Man Cave, but most of all I still love you LC2, just hope mine looks half as good as that.

As above, there a niche bike I had nothing but problem with mine but I only paid £150 yes really it was a money pit and I struggled to get decent bodywork 20yrs ago. This one is missing bodywork it’s running pre mix hasn’t been used for over 5 years etc etc etc It’ll be an expensive money pit motor will need pulling apart for new seals, and checking over you are not easily to get bodywork and why was it done in the first place? Front end damage? Hi Veg, I hasn't thought about the fact it may have been crashed..... Maybe my search for something different continues. Not sure i just want to buy another LC, and AC are stupid money now. Phil

It took me 6 months to sell my fully refurbished one for £5K, so it looks expensive to me. Since zero limits shut his doors, I don't know where you would get decent bodywork from. Some parts are TDR specific and difficult to track down, and like all old 2 strokes, nothings cheap, so you need to get a project bike for the right £. I paid Norbo £2K for mine, and spent another 2 on it, and plenty of labour. I also didn't like riding it to start with, the engine is great, and it handled well on TZR wheels, but always felt flighty at the front. Adopting a MX style riding position of elbows out and weight as far forward as possible helped. I got used to it eventually, and was just starting to like it, when it sold. I'm surprised, I though TDR's sold easily! Labour is fine, i enjoy the build almost as much as riding. Project TDR's seems to be rocking horse poo and then go for silly money too, I've watched a few over the last year or so. Maybe this is worth a silly offer and if not, just walk away.

It's been up for a while so I'm guessing most will have already seen it, item no. 274676284104. It's a bit different and I fancy something different that I can improve slowly. Firstly, anybody know anything about the bike, and then, is there much tuning to be done to this motor without making it unreliable. Obviously it needs the crap exhausts changing but I think it could be nice if I can get it at the right price. Whats the general thoughts on TDR's? I think as long as it was declared on nova within 14 days of arrival It’s then got no time limit to get it registered So if there’s a NOVA number to confirm import tax is paid you’re as complete as you can be and there isn’t a time limit on that once received? that’s what I thought anyhow. That's fine then, I read it that the NOVA expires. Mine was about 3 years ago that it was imported. Phew.... I can relax. Phil

So reading the post in the Wanted Section it seems any bike imported prior to Brexit is now liable for Vat! I've been building mine for ages and never gave it a thought. So what value will they charge the VAT on? anybody got more info on this? I have the original German logbook and an out of date NOVA.

Its amazing stuff, I use it for eveything now. Cleans aluminium really well without discolouring. Also great for cleaning plugs on wiring looms.

The only hard chromers I dealt with stripped off all the chrome in a caustic bath Then went through the replating sequence Mind you they were doing D12 dozer and similar sized parts then I believe its not as cheap a process as it used to be No, certainly not cheap anymore, 100 quid a leg from Philpotts or 90 from ABE, but like I said replacements aren't an option. That seems a good price, but by the time I add VAT and customs charges they start to get more expensive. I'm going to see what sort of cost mine will be, they look and feel fine, bike sounded good when I ran it so maybe they wont need much work. Suggestions on who is best? Phil

So I got the flywheel off, somebody suggested pouring boiling water on the shaft while under its under load, and hey presto, POP and its off.
So next question, looking at the cases it looks as if I may be able to split the cases and remove the cranks with out a total gearbox etc strip down. Is that wishful thinking??

Check for 51X info on the RDRZ500 forum Phil. Its an RZV from Japan. Whats the frame prefix for the bike? also a 51X? FWIW the Aussie 53G engines also have a non ribbed engine number, but they do have full numbers not just the prefix. The yambits puller worked well for me, it was only a tenner i think for anyone seeing this later, get one as you will need it to do this job. Defo do as Dave says, as usual with a recalcitrant flywheel: lots of impact gun 'on and off', taps with the hammer for good measure and then leave it under tension for a bit and see if that shifts it. It will eventually let go. Hi Jon, thanks for that info, I'm going to have a day out in the garage today, feeling a whole heap better now knowing the Engine number is correct. The frame on the 500 is a 47X from memory, I will check later. I'll have a go at the flywheel again today too. So I have got 51X frame and Engine so thats good! Phil

you need the proper puller to get the flywheel off, its a 3 legged one that is offset, it bolts into the flywheel and pulls equally from the centre, I have one, works a treat, Yambits sell them I think I've got that one, still cant shift it.... Phil

Yes that sounded like me too, did you buy one of those brought over in a big batch, that featured in MCN? No, this one had had a basic restoration but whoever did it used all the old rusty nuts and bolts and cross-threaded a load too. It's got a half decent Kenny Roberts paint job at least. All I need to figure now is how to get the flywheel off, its solid! I hope I dont have to cut it off like I did my 31K. Phil

if its an import then they only have the prefix - 51x in your case and generally no ribbing either If it had said 47X or 1GE, then you would be worried as they are UK prefixes and should be ribbed and have the usual 6 digits after the hyphen HTH Thats great news, I was really p**sed off when I saw it. So my day is going from bad to worse. Having got the enthusiasm to go out and sort my garage and get on with some of my unfinished projects I started stripping my 500, (i've had it for 7 years now, bought from a dealer through eBay but too long ago now to be able to do anything) I've pulled the motor and stripped most of the cycle parts a while ago so today I thought I'd have a proper look at the motor and start stripping, I just happened to look for the engine number for some reason and what do I find but a smooth panel with 51x and nothing else . I'm guessing 500's should have the "ribbed" areas like other Yamaha's along with of course a full number. This kinda puts the value go the bike through the floor, so I don't even know if it's worth spending the money of a full restoration. Phil
