Hi guys, I have dragged the Hybrid out of the corner with some fresh enthusiasm, I need to get to the bottom of the hard starting (non starting now). As some of you may remember I posted some pictures of oil leaking from one of the crankshaft dowel pins on the lower crankcase, I assumed that I had an air leak from here. I have now done leak down test and it all seems to be good, no obvious signs of air leaks. Just to put my mind at rest, what pressure do you suggest putting in and how long should it hold? I put 5psi and thats been holding now for well over 5 mins with less than 1psi drop. I have sprayed all the joints I can get to and all good, the clutch case is one though so I cant get to that seal. Just to go back over the history, when I rebuilt the bike and first started it around 4 years ago it started 2nd kick then during the heat cycle process always started 1st or second kick, but after a few months it became harder and harder to start. I have now got the carbs off so will give them a fresh clean but its a bit strange. I would like to get this sorted so that maybe i'll actually ride it soon, its been a long project with its fair share of issues, but she looks great and needs to be ridden. Amazing project, looks great, so much attention to detail. I love the gold wheels, mine have polished rims but I love the look on yours.

Castrol A747 smells just like Castrol R, mt brother uses it in his MX bikes, still takes me back to my MX days every time he starts the bike. Only problem is you cant use it on pumps otherwise I'd be running it now.

I paid 62p 3 weeks ago, I wish I'd ordered more than 500 litres.. Boiler Juice quoted 1.29 last week and now won't quote as others have found. It's crazy.

Thats very nice, dont see many standard Z1R's let alone modified ones. If win the lottery I'd buy a Z1R Turbo.

Slightly off topic, but, I used" Shiply" this week to get a set of expansion chambers for my GT750 shipped from Kent to me in Wales, I had my doubts but ended up paying 64 quid, insured for Ā£500, picked at 3pm and delivered to me by DPD at 1030 the next morning. Not sure how they work that, wasn't collected by DPD and my payment when to some random Courier company. I'll certainly try them again when I have something big or heavy to ship.

Awesome, I love the carbon cans, I fancy them for mine. Are the pipes chrome or polished stainless?

Mutts hit the nail on the head you need proper carb cleaner solution as most ultrasonic baths use alkaline based solution which turns aluminium dull and if too strong eats away at the aluminium. I can Vapour blast both of them for Ā£15.00 if you send them to me if that helps ? Thanks Shandyboy, its the carbs on my newly acquired GT750, I did have the YPVS carbs vapoured and they look great, I'll strip the carbs and see how they come up in the ultrasonic cleaner with decent product and see how they look. Might take you up on that offer. Phil

Hi Guys, I've got a ultra sonic cleaner which I use mostly for carbs, I'm wondering what others use was cleaning fluids with theirs? I've tried all sorts and generally happy but wonder if there is anything to bring the aluminium finish back to a bright finish, generally I find they come out quite grey and dull.
Thanks, Phil

I wondered about using something like JB weld, i guess engine out and turn it upside down is easier than a full strip!

Just think about this, could it be where the crankshaft locating pegs are? And if so surly it should not leak? If itās leaking oils there it must be drawing air!

Hi guys, can any post some pictures of 31k bottom engine case? Both inside and out. Iāve got an oil leak and it looks like Iāve got a problem, I canāt tell from trying to take pictures where the leak is coming from. Itās is not the hole that drains from the top, that much I know. Thanks, Phil

Plugs could be fouled if sheās not had a blast out ?? Thatās not a stupid thought, Iāll stick a new set in too, itās definitely got worse! It started 3rd kick when it first went together.

Mark the position of you air jets, then screw them all the way in and back them out 1/8 of a turn. Then try to start from cold if it starts easier you need to do some adjustment in this area. Thanks, Iāll try that, the motor was āworked onā by Muttsnutts so it still only on his recommended jets a settings, but I though running off the idle jets would affect it too much. Iāll try that and see. Phil

I thought I'd posted this before but must have dreamt it... My 31K is a pig to start from cold, seems to have got worse too. It's still not been on the road but I've been doing a few heat cycles earlier in the summer. It seems now that it takes 20 plus kicks to get going, but starts first kick once warm and runs sweet as once going. I'm thinking I should take the carbs off again but not sure what else to check. Carbs were fully cleaned including removing the little brass balls.
Thanks, Phil

I'm not sure about this but I've got too many projects and I'm losing interest in all of them. I've got a Jap import 500 which I bought from Fastline a few years ago, its got UK V5. I bought it as a runner that somebody had done some work on but it was done badly, lots of nicely painted and powder coated parts, some new bits but put back together with all the old rusty bolts! I have since stripped it with the idea to put modern wheels brakes etc in it, I've had all the bits powder coated and I'm afraid I also had the frame powder coated. I've sort of made it into a rolling chassis again but thats about it. I have pulled off the top end and I'd say it needs a rebore. It's all there and has quite a few new bits with it. So my question is, whats it worth in todays market, I'm thinking to be honest if I can get a decent price I'll let it go. I know we all hate these type of posts but I genuinely dont know what its worth. I'm about to have the same post on a Kawasaki forum about a 500H1 thats 90% finished, again, I just cant be bothered. I need to get on and finish my 350 Hybrid, maybe if I get rid of the other projects I'll get on and finish one. I've got pictures which I can pass on if needed later. Thoughts and comments (good and bad) welcome. Phil

Worth trying that I guess for that price, maybe I'll chance buying a used kickstart gear assembly and hope its better than mine, along with the new loop. Phil

Iāve thought about wobbly idler gears before. Iāve rebushed some and they have still been loose. Wondered if the shaft it sits on also wears? By modified ones, do you mean with the needle rollers. Jon Hi Jon, yes the ones with needle roller, its worse it seems than the original but maybe you're right and the shaft wears too. A waste of Ā£55 so it seems, but I'm now not sure whether to leave it installed or go back to the standard gear. Phil

Hi Guys, I've had a few issues with the kick start sticking so thought I'd get it apart and see whats going on, I thought I'd change the Idler gear for one of the modified ones while it was all apart too. So yesterday I put the modified gear on and it seems to have more play than the old one , I assume I am right thinking the idea of this modified gear to go get rid of the play and reduce noise? Second problem, the gear on the rich starter has so much play, I think I should change it, but am I likely to find a second hand one that is any better? Phil

Well itās nearly there now, a few alignment issues Iām not happy with especially the seat but I guess I need to try another seat but here is how she looks. Just waiting for hydro-dipped frame infill panels to come back.

Ok, so I'm not trying to get the bike finished at last, so now fitting bodywork and have problems with the whole seat, tank and side panel alignment. The seat will not go any further forward, I tried that, but the whole thing doesn't look right to me. I can adjust the side panels up a bit, the brackets with bend easily on the rear subframe.
