Hi Guys, I've got a ultra sonic cleaner which I use mostly for carbs, I'm wondering what others use was cleaning fluids with theirs? I've tried all sorts and generally happy but wonder if there is anything to bring the aluminium finish back to a bright finish, generally I find they come out quite grey and dull.
Thanks, Phil

People with bright shiny carbs usually have had them vapour blasted. Ultrasonic usually leaves a dull finish, but suggest you reduce the time and temperature so that not too dull. I use a carb cleaning fluid from eBay can't remember which exactly which I water down about 90%.

reduce the temp 60/70 C max, and a proper carb cleaner solution, usually round £35/£40 for 5lts, change the solution fairly regulary, scrub/remove the heavy soiling using a degreasor and an old tooth brush etc, run the carbs through the ultra sonci several times if heavily soiled, again using an old tooth brush to remove stubborn stains/marks
To get them really clean (if really grubby), normally requires vapour blasting them, or a hot parts washer with low foam cleaning soltuion, but they aren't cheap for a good one - I know I've just bought one !

Mutts hit the nail on the head you need proper carb cleaner solution as most ultrasonic baths use alkaline based solution which turns aluminium dull and if too strong eats away at the aluminium.
I can Vapour blast both of them for £15.00 if you send them to me if that helps ?

Thanks Shandyboy, its the carbs on my newly acquired GT750, I did have the YPVS carbs vapoured and they look great, I'll strip the carbs and see how they come up in the ultrasonic cleaner with decent product and see how they look. Might take you up on that offer. Phil

I use a product called simple green and while they don't come out shiny they aren't dulled.

In his latest video (10:50) Allen Millyard has used alloy wheel cleaner, which I think is mainly phosphoric acid, with good results.
Think I will try it but wouldn't leave them in there too long!
