Verniers are for approximations, if you need accuracy buy a set of micrometers.
I've got external and depth ones, all picked for a few quid each at auto-jumbles or off ebay.
I'd like a set of internal ones, but make do with telescoping bore gauges and my external micrometers.

Not sure if it's an LC or a valve, but the trick with a valve is to put a switch in the power to the servo, so the valves stay closed during noise testing. Makes 'em quieter.

I brought the entire primary drive for a Buell / Harley back from the states in hand luggage. US security looked a little surprised when she opened the haversack it was crammed into. Said "car parts?" I said Harley, she swabbed it & that was it, off I went. I was expecting hassle like you had.

I signed on a few times between contracts. Just to get some of the £ back they kept taking off me.
Once the job centre realised I could count above 10 without having to take my shoes & socks off, they just left me alone, and just asked if I had looked for work, I nodded, that was it, once a month.

I'm trying hard not to take the bait here. As a current Scott owner (on the LC club stand at Mallory this weekend) and an ex Harley owner... I'd have to say any other Harley apart from the XR1200 I used to own. More like a Buell than a Harley, I really liked it, torquey 1200cc V twin and decent running gear, sportsbike sized sticky radial tyres, You could get your knee down. Well Guy Martin could anyway. sideburnmag.blogspot.com/2010/09/guy-martin-on-xr1200.htmlI wouldn't want a Trike either, unless I could no longer balance on 2 wheels.

For my Scott I use 100ML bottles that are airport legal. Easy to find & each one has enough for 5 Litres at 50:1 I can get 2 in the little toolbox on the side of the bike.

348 attendees. So less than in pre Covid days, but still a decent chunk of cash for our 2 nominated charity's and a donation to the aviation heritage centre.
Plan is to have another go next year, which will be our 14th time of running the event.

We're totting up Tuesday night, all being well.
I'll report back here and on the facebook event page.
It went really well, without any complaints apart from one bloke who wanted to get in free, as he only wanted to look at the bikes!
There's only 6 of us organising this, hopefully we can keep it going a few more years.

bit.ly/WoldsRunWe're splitting the profits between the air ambulance & the blood bikes, and donating a bit to the aviation heritage centre. I'll be there in a yellow jacket, looking harassed no doubt. Probably on the Z650. Hope the run is good, I've only managed to get out on it once. Back at the Green Man pub for the half way round stop this year.

If it were me, I'd put a diode onto 1 of the white 3-phase wires coming from the alternator, to get a 1/2 rectified DC output and feed that to a solid state relay.
I'm not sure what the voltage out of the Yam alternator is, off the top of my head, so I'd test this first before getting a relay to suit. It won't take enough power to affect the rest of the charging system.

Can't speak for any other EV, but my Tesla starts to cut back on performance when you reach the last few % in the batteries, with many a warning on the dash. No excuse for not pulling off the road if that happens. Not experienced this myself.
Plus it has the ability to disconnect the motors so it can be pushed. There are 2 similar modes, Tow-mode and Car Wash-mode. I think car wash is for those car washes where you get pulled through on a rolling road sort of carry on, and you need to be in the car & it be unlocked. Tow mode is for when you are being rescued and the car can be empty and locked.
The modes are activated by the 12V battery rather than the 400V one, so even if the drive batteries are completely flat you can still use the dash to do stuff.

I'm trying not to sound too much like a Tesla fan-boy, but the Tesla only dedicated superchargers, 125Kw to 250Kw mean that there aren't really any charging worries, or long delays. My only worry, with them selling so well, is that the continued expansion of the network isn't keeping up. Never had to queue yet, but I've been charging when the sites have filled up & people had to wait 10 minutes or so. I was quite tempted by the Jag I-pace, but the Tesla charging network swung it for me.

A hybrid is just a car with 2 engines, which ever one is working has to lug the other one around, extra weight for no good reason, unless you live in London or similar, and they exempt you from the congestion zone tax/fine/charge what ever you want to call it.
My Tesla is still great, just saying...

Changed the oil and filter on my Street Triple 765RS. Got to work out how to reset the service light, as need to install some software on my phone and connect via Bluetooth through a special dongle. Got to do air filter too once it stops raining. There was a thing called TigerTool I used on my Tiger 800. Don't know what other models it works on, but worked on a laptop just fine.

The advantage of the taper lock is that they only have to produce 1 centre for each size of shaft and 1 pulley of each size and then you can mix & match to your hearts content, much easier than each size of pulley with each possible size of hub. Anyway, 0.25mm is as near as damn it 10 thou www.ebay.co.uk/itm/254033765586Would do the job I reckon. Looking at your pictures, is the bit the flywheel sits on worn compared to the outside bit? It may just be a bit discoloured.

I may be overthinking this, especially for a rotovator, not sure how high they rev, or how precision they are, but if you squeeze the bush fully closed, and bore it to 18.5mm then there's no split left to grab the crank. If you bore it a bit less, then it won't be quite round when squeezed down to 18.5. Probably not enough to matter in this application.
Grabbing that taper in a lathe chuck, getting it square, so the shaft is concentric with the lathe spindle, not at a slight angle is going to be a fun set up job. Hope it doesn't move when boring, the jaws will only be holding the end of the taper.
I'd still start with some 0.25mm shim stock and make a collar for the crank.
The key should be a precision fit, There's a formula for size & length and depth split between shaft & pulley. You don't want it loose. I can't remember the details, but I could probably find them if the OP is bothered, I know the shaft diameter comes into it, and if I remember right you measure depth not from the top of the round, but from where the slot reaches full width in the shaft, IE where the cutter first engages both sides. It'll be ISO something or other. Assuming the manufacturers followed a standard, and with a 18.5mm shaft, maybe not.

That's going to be a fun job.
Things to think about:
Because of the split, it's going to be difficult to bore, as it will just expand out of the way of the cutter or get squished in by the action of the chuck or vice used to hold it. Probably be best to mount it in the pulley (or flywheel or whatever) or make a fixture with the right taper. How big is the flywheel? Does it have straight edges so it could be held in a chuck. It might be easier to mount in a vice on a mill and use a boring head.
If you take some out of the middle, the effective size of the keyway will now be too small. Are you using the keyway? If so you'll either need to broach the keyway out a bit more, or reduce the keys height a bit.
Have you considered using some shim steel and taking up the difference with a shim all the way round, apart from the keyway. I think that would be my first approach to this, but then again the flywheel is probably too big for my lathe, I only have a 3.5" swing.
I've used these on the motors on my lathe & mill, I think they're a clever idea, for mounting pulleys to shafts. Not seen them used for flywheels, or anything other than pulleys.

Luckily we have solar panels and are on the old FIT tariff so that will offset the price rises. Looked into buying an EV but the Tesla model 3 performance starts at around £55k ! I think they are 60K now, Elon manages demand by hiking prices. I went for a dual motor, rather than the performance, as I needed a tow bar and it's not available on the performance. 0-60 in 3 and a bit seconds for the performance and 4.2 for mine. About the same as a BMW M3, and I think they are 75 grand.

I'm still on 5p / 15p a unit, can get about 120 miles into the car overnight at 5p for 4 miles worth. Works well for my usage. Hoping to be pretty much solar only for a few months over the summer. It's not so much more sun, but longer days that will make the difference I think.
I sell any excess back into the grid for 4.1p per unit, so if I get the car & house batteries full it's not the end of the world.

My solar produced 15 KWH today. That's enough to run the house & put 15 to 20 miles worth into the Tesla.
I may have gone EV at just the right point in time.
Octopus still sell me electric at 5p / KWH overnight, wonder how long that will last?

Been watching this series on youtube. Great for those who are starting out with the lathe - she has other series as well. Very well presented by someone who knows what shes talking about as someone using a hobby lathe in her own shop. Nerdy enough to be trustworthy info and not hard to follow. Being female she wins hands down over the old blokes who stumble over their words and assume too much prior knowledge. Well thats my 2p anyway. Either way; These are great as about 7mins long, perfect for us old ADD sufferers! Full list: www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLY67-4BrEae9Ad91LPRIhcLJM9fO-HJyNEp 1 She's quite a girl is Quinn. First came across her years ago, some software thing or other, that's her day job. I do watch her videos each week, she seems to be able to use her hobby sized kit to make items that you'd think were too big, and I like the fact she leaves any mistakes in, so we can all learn.

I was thinking hard how to get my mill onto the cabinet & the Mrs suggested I put it on the bike workbench & lifted it hydraulically. Bugger me it worked perfectly, pumped up to just the right height & slid across effortlessly. She is happy to remind me of this, regularly.

Looking good. If that is a screw on chuck, you need some way to lock the spindle to unscrew if. The myford has a pin that locks the spindle, just for this job. On my old Harrison I used to have to engage back gear without pulling the pin on the bull gear to lock it up. This never seemed like a good idea to me, but that's all there was.
