Has anyone had anything to do with these auctions? I have seen a registration that is perfect for me but are the registrations all requested by someone to be in the auction or is it a random selection DVLA are selling? Just interested to know if I will be bidding against a computer or a human! Thanks.

In my mind it doesn't matter, bid what you want to pay, if you win, happy days, if not does it matter if its a fella in Sculthorpe who won or a computer?

DVLA randomly release numbers and it's just an auction if anybody is interested in them

Just looked and they do timed auctions and live auctions
Live auction is just an ordinary auction in live time. As in a lot comes up, people start bidding and when the biddi g stops the highest bidder wins
A timed auction is blind. You put your max bid in, no one sees it and at the close time the highest bidder wins

It's much cheaper to change your name by deed poll to match your current registration.

AFAIK DVLA sell of registrations that they 'find' on the system that are not linked to a vehicle or ever have been, plus some they held back long ago and some are the latest reg etc.
DVLA have been doing this since the early 90s. They saved and sold numbers they thought might make money, ie 1-20 and every 100, 200, 300 etc. They did others as well tho. Some they didnt ever let go if they were deemed rude lol.
Some stuff sells for loads some not so much but its always at least the cheapest price they charge. sometimes if the dont sell they just punt them on the normal system, but these days i suspect theyd let the auctions run and run.
Good luck, shaun's advice is what i'd suggest as well.

One of the things I really like about so many things in life are the Marmite products. Cherished Numbers are certainly these. One person's 'waste of money' is another's 'Fave thing ever'. Ive said before and Im sure people remember that I have a few, even have some in the UK on retention and would love to have cars and bikes in the uk to put em on.
