Hi, Just home from some late night Tesco shopping. I treated myself to this months "Classic Bike" magazine. I dont normaly get that one, but it has a feature called "Yamaha Speed Block Icons." I have not read it yet, but after a quick flick through it in the shop, I saw an article about a TZ750 that said it is arguably the best race bike of all time. I also noticed an RD400 and a very nice LC with a big seagull on the side. steven. www.classicbike.co.uk/magazine-issues/november-2016

... I buy quite a lot of stuff from Halfords. Someone from work went in a few months ago after their work one day and the person at the till saw the company name on his shirt, and asked him if he would like a trade discount card. It turns out lots of people are eligable for a Halfords trade discount card. So lots of us went in and asked for one, all you need is your payslip or apprenticeship papers. Its not just a small discount you get, its usualy approx 25% or more. I recently got a new battery for my car, it was supposed to be 40 odd quid and i got it for £30. It is quite a good saving if you use Halfords regularly. If you scroll down on this page, it gives you a list of who is elegable for a trade discount card. steven. www.halfords.com/advice/customer-services/trade-card

... I would say with threads on brake parts we need to be a bit pedantic, well I am anyway.
As we all know, tapping drill size = O/D of tap/bolt minus pitch, so....
M10 x 1.5 = 10 - 1.5 = 8.5mm tapping drill. M10 x 1.25 = 10 - 1.25 = 8.75mm tapping drill.
The tapping drill size for an M10 x 1.25 helicoil = 10.30 mm... so you have plenty "meat" to drill into on the caliper bracket. So, as said above, yes, you can fit an M10 x 1.25 helicoil. steven.

.... I found the same, I built my present engine meticousely, or so I thought, using a calibrated Britool torque wrench and I found several leaks when I did the pressure and vacuum tests. I had to re do various gaskets with Hylomar to get it to pass the press/vac tests.
I also made up a "special" radiator cap for the radiator, and pressure tested the cooling system at the same time as I was testing the engine, I found leaks there too.
Its a bit of faffing about, but, in my mind anyway, it was well worth it for the peace of mind. steven.

Hi, I have just had a look at my bearing books as I am at work, on night shift, yuk! 15 mm I/d X 37 mm o/d is not a standard size. A quick look on the net shows me that these bearings are available and used on wheel chairs. I have. as you say found them for sale in America, but I did not see any UK suppliers, but I only spent ten minutes looking online, if you spend some more time looking, there is bound to be someone in the UK that supplies them. I see online that others are having the same probs as you , so I'm guessing the application you need them for is a pit bike ? Sorry I couldn't be of more help. Steven.

....to rule out the too much compression question, dont settle for "it should or it might be ok"......do a compression test, but I understand that might be a little difficult if its now in bits, but will give you the definative answer once its all back together.

.... I agree with your comment on "piss poor restoration" Twin horns on a 250 ?...with cheap and nasty spade connectors, on closer inspection its not worth that money. ... and yes, I agree, looking at how it sits on the centre stand, its had the LC equivelant of a prolapse ! im sure it could be an ok Lc, but not for that money it couldnt.......complete piss take ! steven.

...Yes the gasket has to be removed, and the measurement is taken from the gasket landing face to the bottom of the float. In the absence of any other explanation, Im sure that the notches or cut outs on the carbs are for checking the float heights using the clear pipe method. I know most of us have seen these pics plenty of times before, but here are a couple of them again for those that missed them the last umpteen times Iv posted them, there are more detailed postings about how I did it on here somewhere. steven.

... I have in the past used the above methods, another method I have used is to get a welding torch onto the caliper in the area of the piston seals and melt/burn the piston seal out them, taking care not to over heat/melt the aluminium caliper. Once the piston seal is burned/melted away, the piston just falls out. In todays modern world of health and safety, hydraulicing them out is probably the safest way, but blowing them out with compressed air is the most exciting and spectacular, as if/when it moves with compressed air, it flys out with an awfy bang ! steven.

... saw it go over, and heard it on the scanner too. :-) It was a good pass at my location, with 40 deg of elevation, it only takes 90 minutes to go round the world and come back, but the next pass at 21:08 is not a visible pass according to the ISS fanclub site. Weather looks good this week, so hopefuly see it again this week some time. I read online, that there is a Chinese space station up there too now, but havnt looked for it yet. In the days of the shuttle, you could see the shuttle trailing the space station before it docked. www.issfanclub.com/

Hi, There is a good visible passd of the ISS tonight at approx 18:32 UTC which is 19:32 Local time in the UK. It will come from the South West, and if skys are clear of cloud it is easily visible with the naked eye. Seen it a few times now, it is good to see spaceships flying over ! Plenty info and a tracker here. issfanclub.com/steven.

Hi, I thought last weekends run down the coast would probably be the last run of the year on the bike due to the weather, but the weather has been great all week, and was nice again today, so I pulled my LC out and headed down the coast again this afternoon, in the sunshine. I didnt have too much petrol in it, so decided to go on one of my favourite runs, over the hill and down to Troon harbour. I often take the bike a run round the town first to heat it up before heading anywhere. I did my lap round the one way system and was going round the roundabout at the bottom of the town when I saw a white/blue LC leaving the roundabout a few cars in front of me. I nipped up the middle of the cars and pulled up next to a very nice standard white and blue 250 LC at the traffic lights. I gave the bloke the thumbs up and we drove through the lights and stopped at the side of the road. It turns out he stays in the same town as me, and recently sold his Fireblade and bought a very nice matching numbers 250 LC. We chatted for a while, and he told me that he recently had a gearbox full of ice cream on his LC, so bought the seals and "O" ring etc to repair it from Norbo. I told him I would put the pics up on here tonight, so if you see this Stevie, did your pics come out any better than mine? as a few of the ones I took were into the sun, and a bit shite ! I was heading home after standing chatting for a while, but ended up going to Troon as planned. I see they have not washed the grafitti off under the bridge for a while, so went and took some more pics there too, before heading for a pleasant afternoon down at the coast in the sunshine again, I even managed to get a picture of the grey seals that frequent Troon harbour. The forecast looks ok for next week too, so mabey get a few more miles on my bike before the frost comes and the salt goes down. Cheers, Steven.

... Thanks for the nice comments. Although we all moan about the weather in Scotland, it is quite nice when the sun comes out. Nigel, yes, the tyres are Continentals, I can get you the "type" off them if you require. They were new three years or more ago, I have no problems with them, but in saying that,I have never been out in the wet with them ! I know where I got them from, as they sent me a keyring with them when I bought them, and my spare keys are on said keyring, I got them from TST Tyres in Warrington. steven. www.facebook.com/pages/TST-Tyres/337784859576141

Hi, Since I put my LC back on the road three years ago, I have always stuck these on if Im not using it. My petrol tap seems to shut off fine, as it is very rarely I see any petrol in them. Much less hastle than an engine and exhausts full of petrol.

Hi, Maidens is a small fishing village on the Ayrshire coast, about thirty miles or so South of where I now live. All my mothers side of the family come from Maidens, and I also lived there for two years in the 90,s. As the weather was realy good today, I decide to take a run down the coast on my bike and I ended up at Maidens. There were lots of bikes out today due to the favourable conditions, I have a horrible feeling that there wont be many more days like this in 2016 for a run on the bike, but fingers crossed. The Isle of Arran can be be seen on the photos, as can The Mull of Kintyre, the small rock in the middle of the sea is Ailsa Craig, which is in the Firth of Clyde. Elsie went great and never missed a beat. As usual, I met several "I used to have one of them" types ! Seventeen pics is mabey a bit much, but its just what I have saved to my photobucket on my return from a grand day out. Cheers, Steven.
