Not sure if the link will work but LC is back on two wheels for the first time in 3yrs. It's over 7yrs since she ate a piston. Hopefully on the road for summer...

There's a chap on the tdr250 Facebook page who did one at Donington this year. Looked like good fun, if not bloody confusing remembering the course!

It was dan hegarty and unfortunately he died. Irwins a true road racer he knows the score, but that makes no difference when you see a compatriot pass away.

Can't you claim off the public liability aspect of your neighbours house insurance? I certainly hope so. Gutted for you.

That's grand- thanks! That's pretty much where I'd guessed at but it's good to see what others have done. Cheers.

Any chance of reposting the picture OEB? Went to fit mine today and couldn't find any clear reference pictures. A couple that give a guide on rd350lc.net but any others would be appreciated.

I'd be interested in how they work on a 250. I'm doing away with the 350 conversion on my 4L1, and could be interested in a set of pipes so I can keep the originals in better condition.

I'm sure that i read that stan stephens uses a 14 degree angle for the chamber. Think it was in one of the articles he's written for cmm recently.

I'm just north of Bristol. Might make it to the stones rally, but it'll just be a day trip if I do.

I have fitted taper bearings. The 'cup' that fits in the top of the frame protrudes about 3mm above the frame, I wondered whether it was because of that. I can't remember how high up the upper ball race sat before. I guess my main concern was that it effectively 'spaces out' the top and bottom yokes a small amount, and that the yoke nut only engaged by three turns or so due to the reduced amount of thread that is available. It's not like it can fall off though so I guess as long as it is tight enough to remove any play in the head bearings then it's OK.
Thanks!

Evening, I'm putting the 4L1 back together after it being apart fr a long time. Not sure if the yoke/bearings have fitted properly, as I don't remember there being this much of a gap between the top of the stem and the surface of the yoke. Does this look normal? Cheers.

Dean at metmachex offers an o ring service on ebay for £70 Surely he must recut to correct squish Good ypvs head goes for £50 but the o rings save hassle long term Steve I asked. To get the chambers done it is another 100 quid.

Thanks for the replies chaps. I'd thought about Fahron but heard that he has pretty long turn around times. Will contact SEP as well. LC_BOTT, it's a good point! I'll have look at what's around. Just seems a bit daft when I've got a couple that could be repaired. Maybe it'll be worth the cost in a few years if their value goes up?
Now I've got a couple of suggestions of where to go for repairs I'll get some quotes and compare against the heads on Ebay.
Cheers!

I'm finally getting round to restoring my LC after it has languished for 5 years in the garage. It's a 4L1 and, although I was running it as a 350, I'm putting it back to standard. I've got a couple of heads for it but both are fairly trashed in the chamber. Where's a good place to send them for a skim and reprofile (and perhaps to get o-ringed)?
Cheers.

The 4L0/1 is running the best it has ever and I'm really enjoying it. However, I think it could be improved by going one leaner on the trhottle slide. There isn't a Yamaha part listed for this (a 2.5 compared to a 2.0) and Allens weren't sure they'd be able to supply one as the VM26 on the 4L0 has some Yamaha specific parts.
Anyone know where I could get hold of a pair of VM26 2.5 throttle slides? Even if there is another Yam that had them fitted?

I've used the Silkolene range for years with no problems, Comp2 stuff. Recently swapped to TTS Power 1 (Castrol) and that seems OK too. I doubt there is too much to pick and chose between the big name brands.

Can anyone shed some light on the likely changes in mixture caused, at small throttle openings, by single stage reeds, compared to dual stage reeds? I'm running Boyeson dual stage reeds at the moment but I'm struggling with the carburation being a little rich on the transition between idle and the needle. It's not awful but I'd like to rid my self of it if possible. Thing is the Boyeson information says that their dual stage reeds 'typically' cause the mixture to lean at small throttle openings and richen at large ones. So, by rights, the reeds should be helping my case.
I also have some Hy-power single stage reeds that I could try but I can't get my head round whether they would be likely to make the bike run leaner or richer at small throttle openings.
Of course the definitive answer would be found by trying them but I wanted to garner opinion before slinking off to the garage!

I'm going to make the most of the engine being in bits and get the body kit sprayed up on the LC.
Any recommendations on who to get the decal kit from?
Cheers.
