Evening, I'm putting the 4L1 back together after it being apart fr a long time. Not sure if the yoke/bearings have fitted properly, as I don't remember there being this much of a gap between the top of the stem and the surface of the yoke. Does this look normal? Cheers.

Can't remember what it normally looks like, but probebly ok if you have fitted taper bearings, as they are 'thicker' than the original ball and cup ones?

I have fitted taper bearings. The 'cup' that fits in the top of the frame protrudes about 3mm above the frame, I wondered whether it was because of that. I can't remember how high up the upper ball race sat before. I guess my main concern was that it effectively 'spaces out' the top and bottom yokes a small amount, and that the yoke nut only engaged by three turns or so due to the reduced amount of thread that is available. It's not like it can fall off though so I guess as long as it is tight enough to remove any play in the head bearings then it's OK.
Thanks!

Yes that's what found to when I fitted mine 6years ago, no problems. Need to fit a taper bottom only bearing and cup to another bike so if any one has a bearing number that would be helpful.
