I managed to find some time this week to make the main fairing bracket. This took quite a while to machine as it came out a 7 x 7 x 4 billet , actually it was around 16 hours machining which ran overnight over 2 days I based the design on a Klingon Warbird , so when I get bored I can play spaceships Here's what the fairing bracket looks like when it's built and here's the riders eye view of the clocks Just have to tweak the 3 feet on the bottom to get the fit right ( going to do this with a file ! ) then I can put the finishing details on the rest of the mount , get it anodised , then start on another bit that needs doing !

After doing some work for a mate of mine I realised that my top yoke looked a bit boring in comparison , so I had a go at making a new one. I also tried to make the headlight / clock / fairing bracket look a bit less industrial by machining a few pockets into them. Here's what they look like fitted to the mito Quite pleased with how they look fitted , almost look like they've been made by someone who knows what they are doing

Here's a couple of pictures of what will hopefully be the last major piece made on the bike . It's still in an early stage and I'm still trying to see that everything clears ( chain / tyre ) , it fits inside the blocks of ally that I have and looks like a proper one , not one that's been thrown together by a man in a shed. I'm going to have to re-make the sprocket carrier as I've moved the chain side of the arm in a bit so the chain will be central (hopefully) when it's all fitted . The size of the billets I'm using are two 7" x 3" x 28" and the centre piece is 7" x 6" x 14" There's still quite a bit of work left to do on this which is why it hasn't got any rads / pockets / gull arm / any features on . It's going to be keyed , bolted and glued together so it shouldn't come apart , that is if it fits ! I'll hopefully have some finished model screenshots in a couple of weeks , then it's the easy bit of machining it

just seen this thread - absolutely stunning CAD / CAM work. I dabble with solidworks at work, so I really appreciate the amount of time and skill required. Brilliant work!

Bit of a small update on the swingarm front. Managed to get the size I needed for the centre section ( 7x7x14 ) so I won't need to use the packing pieces , which meant I had to do a slight re-design. While I was doing this I thought that I would weigh the 3 billets just out of curiousity and they are whats technically known as really heavy !! The centre section is 50kg and the arms are 27kg each and I'm hoping that it will end up between 10-15kg so there's going to be quite a bit of swarf Anyway, here's what I have so far Still have to put a few features on and model the other side up , hopefully have it done in a couple of weeks . Then it's just a case of getting the machining done

I finally managed to find 10 minutes and I think I've managed to finish the side arm model off. I put a couple of bracing bars on the inside faces which should help stop the twisting force when the rear brake is applied and positioned the 3 tapped holes in the pocket. All I have to do now is to model up where the front bearing goes, set it in the billet, sort the program out and hit the start button Here's how it looks at the moment Please note that the model is subject to change if I find something missing / not right . In fact I've just had a thought about putting some strengthening ribs on the inside face , back in a while !!

I finally made a start machining the centre section up and when I left work yesterday it looked like this and when I came in this morning it looked like this I know that you won't be able to see the machining marks once the wheels fitted but I'l know that they are there. Getting there

Just got back from checking on the mill and I was greeted by this and after a quick clean up it looked like this At a guess that's about another 10kg gone

I thought I'd have a go at machining the top face of the section today which is the last big lump to remove from the billet. Here's a photo of it as it was taking it's first cut and here's a little video of it running The video isn't that exciting to watch as it's running a bit on the slow side. The reasons that it's this slow is that the cutter is sticking out 5 1/4" and it's a 10hr unattended run, hopefully this way it will finish the run and when I get back to work in the morning it will resemble the model I made. Fingers crossed I've got a couple of good photo's to post tomorrow ! Once this operation is done I have to tap 2 holes on it for the shock mount then program the side pockets which I'm hoping to get done in the next couple of weeks

Came in this morning to find this sitting where once sat quite a big lump after a quick clean up it looked like this and here it is with the shock mount pocket in At a guess I'd say it now weighs 10-15kgs, next job is to put the side pockets in.
