Cheers mate. To be fair, watching her out and about you wouldn't know there is anything wrong with her. It's only the slight limp that gives it away. These dogs run until they cant physically run any more - that's why we have to be really careful walking her - she'd go turbo if we let her ! And I did manage to lay on he floor of the garage just now, and fit 2 of the rim tapes to see how they look; 20180203_173337 by David Miller, on Flickr I'm going with 3 a side per wheel. I've used a continuous stripe in the past but wanted something different, These taper down rather than being a uniform width, and I line the sticker up with the hole in the spoke, so the 3 stickers are equally spaced. Sorry to hear about your knee Dusty. I tore my left cruciate about 5 years ago, I was standing still and then suddenly turned round and 'pop'. Knee swelled up badly but after seeing the doc and trying to use the bad knee as normally as I could it got better. Then I did it again! Still hurts sometimes and it is slightly swollen after all this time but I can get out and about. Alex ps offer still stands if you need those wheels done, I owe you a couple

Cheers Alex Im really hoping i dont need surgery on it. I know Mouse has had to wait months for his. Glad i got the Mot when i did !! The knee supports help no end. Without them i have little stability in the knee and it feels like it will give way. Really peed off as i was really getting back into running and seeing the benefits. The Mri will tell me whats what but thats a minimum of 2 weeks away. Still its done now so just have to go with it. Will spend even more time on the forum !!

Ruptured my acl 21 yrs ago(motocross injury)3 years later tore the meniscus badly which resulted in total removal of it. Knee totally worn out and painful now-on the waiting list for total knee replacement, but concerned about how far it will bend afterwards. Need a good bend to ride my hybrids, not ready for a Harley Davidson yet!!!

I'm a firm believer that men of a certain age especially, shouldn't go running/jogging and certainly not for any distance.
The human ankle/knee joint isn't suitable to take such impacts in my opinion,....I'm all for keeping fit though, just choose a different type of exercise.

Hi Earthman, Funny you mention that. I watched a documentary last night, where science "proved" that walking put less stress through you knees than running, but for longer. Comparing running against walking showed running put less stress on knees overall, and encouraged increased blood flow to tendons and ligaments which is good !! Make of that what you will. I'm not gonna keep going on about it in this thread as it's about bikes, but I will say this. I visited the docs more last year than ever before. I'm a 51 year old retired Firefighter who is still active, with 2 knackered discs in my lower spine and not as fit as I should be. My last visit to the doc before Xmas was for shoulder pain. She happened to mention a "score" they can do which combines blood pressure and cholesterol count. Anything over 10% gives you a significant risk of a heart attack or stroke within the next 10 years. My score was 11.4 !! I don't drink, have never smoked, and am still physically active every single day. I thought I would never run again due to my back, but it was actually improving it, and I was enjoying getting out every day - nothing major, just 2-3 miles. The crappy pavement has caused my injury, and both my wife and daughter are runners and have both suffered injury from the terrible condition of the pavements everywhere. I bought a mountain/hybrid bike last year, but need far more time in my day to achieve the same gains that a 20 -30 minute run get me. And I hate swimming - always have. I actually enjoy running and the rapid gains it can achieve over other types of exercise. Each to their own of course. And my last thought is this. In my last year in the Fire Service, I did a Medics course and started Co responding for the Ambulance Service. All 4 watches on my station did it and our calls went through the roof. 1 of the Watches had over 60 resus's in 1 year alone. All the other watches had their fair share too. The most worrying thing was the amount of "young" people that have strokes and heart attacks. By young, in medical terms, I mean less than 60 years old. Of course, some had a known illness, but with lots, you could tell it was a lifestyle issue. My memories of numerous CPR's, combined with the wake up call from my doc, pushed me to get fitter, in the hope it may improve my health and well being. Just a shame I have to put it on hold for a bit. Anyway, back to bikes !!

Hi Dusty, think I watched that too.
My way of thinking, from the beginning of mankind, when/why would humans have had to run long distance? Sure, run to safety to escape being eaten or maybe catch an animal that you are trying to trap for dinner. Even humans who live in tribes today tend to cover distance via walking rather than running and generally they have much less body weight/fat to move than us who live in the modern world.

I've ordered a V55/5 form from the Dvla, which could take a week to 10 days to arrive. In the meantime, I thought I would swap the wheels over. Did both the rears today, will have to cobble something together to do the fronts as that's a bit more difficult . 20180130_164340 by David Miller, on Flickr I really like the white wheels in a white bike. I'm undecided as to whether to add a stripe of some sort to the wheel rim - I will wait till the front wheel is in to decide. The black rear made it into the other hybrid; 20180130_153124 by David Miller, on Flickr I think this will look really good when the front is fitted. Once the wheels are done this bike is more or less finished Dusty Both lovely bikes mate fair play I do like the black wheels though! not been one for white may would have gone red on the white bike but both a credit to you....take care with the health chap ππ

Cheers Topman The wheels were white originally when the bodywork was blue; 20160312_121314 by David Miller, on Flickr When it went orange the white wheels looked ok but not what I would have chosen - black is better. I know white wheels aren't everyone's thing, and can be a pain to keep clean, but I do like them in a white bike. Dusty

Managed to fit the third stripe on the rear wheel today; 20180205_144850 by David Miller, on Flickr If I'm able, I will try and stick 3 of the orange stripes on the black wheel in the orange bike to see how it looks, but I think it livens up the white wheel nicely. Dusty

Hi The pipes are stainless TSA's, but I found the TSA end cans were quite long, and I wanted a shorter can. I saw a couple of members bikes at Brands last year and they had Muttsnut's pipes fitted, with short cans. They looked and sounded awesome, so I asked Dave to get me a pair of cans made up to fit the TSA's. Really pleased with them and they are about 5 inches shorter than standard; 20171015_133508 by David Miller, on Flickr And he difference when fitted on the bike; 20171015_155054 by David Miller, on Flickr 20171015_161352 by David Miller, on Flickr Hth Dusty

I picked them up from Dave at the Stafford show last year. They bolted straight on and everything fits and lines up perfectly I did give them a bit of a polish on my buffing wheel but nothing major, and the quality is superb. He is a great guy to deal with too Dusty

This build is now, virtually, finished Registration documents were sent off to Dvla on Monday, so as long as there are no issues, I'm hoping to get a Uk log book and reg number back in a couple of weeks hopefully. Then I will get a plate made up and that will probably be the last thing I need to buy. Still got to swap the front wheels over but that's not a big job as such. I was planning on riding the bike this summer but my knackered knee has put that on hold for the minute, so she will sit a while longer. I may refit indicators at a later date - I will see. And just remembered - I need to sort the alloy fuel cap. It has no vent hole so every time I loosen the cap there is a fair "hiss" from the tank. That could cause fuel starvation in use, so I am considering options. I had thought of a 3mm hole drilled straight through the middle of the Tuning fork logo, but not sure if fuel will spill from it. Option B is get a small tank vent and get it drilled and tapped into the centre of the cap, which would work well but ruin the logo; 20180208_122519 by David Miller, on Flickr I've got a place near me that sells all sorts of vents for fuel tanks so may go and see what they've got. This is , nearly, the final pic 20180206_133221 by David Miller, on Flickr Dusty

Hi Dusty i have two tanks with breathers which i like but i think it looks a bit odd on a road bike. If you are going to drill a hole try 2mm or 1.5 mm. I have seen this on many race bikes and you have to look twice to notice it.

Hi mate Yea, will try a small hole first, right in the centre of the logo on the cap. I don't want to add a vent but if I do it will have to go in the cap - obviously don't want to touch the tank. Shame the cap isn't vented as standard. Didn't realise until the tank had fuel in it. I think the standard caps vent through the key slot. I have got an alloy Yam cap but quite liked these so will persevere with it Dusty

As i mentioned to you previously Dusty, those caps do cause fuel starvation, and I removed mine once I had sussed what was causing the bike to die, not fitted it back since, but I might try a discreet vent hole . 3 stripes on the wheels look so much better than my continuous one, bikes are amazing, you set incredibly high standards

Cheers Rigga As you say, lots of stunning builds on here. How far were you getting before the fuel starvation started causing a problem ?

Not far on a three quarter full tank, started to ride as intended, then it just died and I coasted to a halt, thought I'd knackered something as it wouldnt start, faffed around for a bit and it fired up and sounded OK, set off again and the same happened. Then it occurred to me it might be the cap so I loosened it and tried again, no issue, the lack of venting resulted in the float bowls running dry and engine cutting out, and the no restart until enough fuel had trickeled through to fill them, refitted original cap and never had the issue again.

Mmm not good then. I'm gonna drill a hole today and see if it helps. My garage gets very warm, and I think the heat causes the petrol in the tank to gas off a bit, hence I can remove the cap most days and get a fair "hiss" as the vapour escapes. I'm hoping a small hole will do the trick, and as long as I don't brim the tank with fuel, hopefully it wont spurt out in use. I 'll let you know how it goes. Dusty

I can't see the fuel coming out Dusty. As you said the key slot is the breather on the standard cap and petrol doesn't come out of that. Unless it's upside down... Alex
