Lets hope it's never upside down !! Drilled the hole yesterday. Managed to snap a drill bit doing it Got it out though luckily. I was using a 2mm bit, and in the end I went to a 3mm in my pillar drill. I wont know if petrol will escape until I ride it and that could be a long time now, so we'll see; 20180210_112525 by David Miller, on Flickr With the standard caps - I don't know how they vent through to the key hole but it isn't a direct drilling like I've done. I've fitted the standard alloy cap to the orange bike now until I'm sure the modded cap works. Dusty

I have seen wadding or foam used on the underside of the breather hole, but this could have been Land Rover fuel caps

Hi Nigel I was trying not to ruin the logo on the cap if I could help it. If the hole allows petrol to spill out I will get a tank vent and get it pro fitted to the cap. Hope it doesn't come to that. If I do I will fit a short bit of pipe with a one way vent valve which should look ok. Dusty

Just a quick thought, I you get a tank vent, fit it to the underside of the fuel cap

Hi Tobyjugs If I do have to fit a proper vent I will fit it on top and try and make a feature of it. A short hose and a small alloy valve would probably look ok. The cap didn't hiss when I removed it last night but until it's ridden I wont know if fuel escapes or not. Dusty

I do get a little fuel build up in the pipe over time if i don't use it and the clear pipe turns yellow over longer periods, maybe coloured pipe is better

Great news yesterday 20180215_093700 by David Miller, on Flickr So my Lc hybrid now has a Uk reg. I am so pleased !! I sent the paperwork off Monday before last and it arrived back yesterday, so 8 working days door to door !! I've already ordered a plate online - a 7x5 as I'm not riding it for a while, and I've Sorn it this morning too. Thanks again to Shaun for his excellent "How to" guide, and also Colin - sbscnor - for the copy of his V55/5 which has changed slightly recently. And a belated "Happy birthday" to the hybrid too. She was 36 on Feb 2nd !! Dusty

I was pretty sure those caps has a vent in the underside, I need to check mine. These are all from Wicked, some via Norbo or Mad Biker I suspect, but the same CNC machine made them... or maybe not?

Hi mate Definitely no vent hole Hasn't been a problem since I drilled the hole, but it's not an ideal "fix". I know a few different guys supply them and they all seem the same cap. Shame, as I really like the look of them, but unless you do some sort of mod on them, they will be a problem in use if they don't vent. Dusty

Yes no vent hole, just a machined lump of alloy you attach part of your original cap to so that it fits, causes fuel starvation issues, ill drill mine too and refit it and see how it goes.

There is definitely no pressure build up in the tank now Rigga. It's had a few days untouched, and I removed the cap today and no hissing at all. Whether that is good enough for road riding remains to be seen of course. And the number plate arrive today, less than 24 hours after I ordered it on ebay !!; 20180215_140217 by David Miller, on Flickr Smaller plates look sooo much better !! Dusty

I bought one off Norbo and after reading this I checked mine and it has got a machined square underneath just where the rubber seal is.

Hi Yea, sounds like mine - a small channel machined into the underside of the cap. Unfortunately it doesn't vent Anyway, the hole seems to have sorted it at the mo. I know specials are never really finished, but it's finished !!; 20180217_132043 by David Miller, on Flickr Next stage is to get some miles on it to sort out any snagging jobs that may need doing. That could be some time though as my knee will making riding a problem for the time being. Dusty

Very nice Dusty, will be interesting to see if you prefer the LC motor compared to the power valve.

Blimey Dusty, they are a stunning pair! The difference that white and black wheels have to the overall 'look' - I can't decide which I prefer! Good reason to have two Enjoy them and great work. Rich

You've done a cracking job there Dusty, also the Orange one is so much better with black wheels.

Cheers fellas. Really glad I did it now. I think the white bike works equally well with black or white wheels, but the orange bike definitely needs the black wheels Dusty

Dusty I found my cap today, it defo has a vent 'slot' in the billet. Its under the seal and takes the pressurised gasses from inside the tank up through the spring area and out across the back of the seal to the edge of the cap to vent out beyond the seal under the cap. I assume the ones you guys have dont have this, or its not working? hmm...

Hi Jon Both of mine have the machined groove as you describe. Problem is it doesn't vent. If I left my tank for a few days and then removed the cap, it would hiss in the same way as when you take the top off a shaken fizzy drinks bottle !! It does get very warm in my garage, but it proves the cap doesn't vent. The groove is probably 2-3 mm - the same as the hole I drilled through the cap, and since I've done the hole, no more problems. I know Rigga had a problem when riding, and I did read of the same problem on another forum. The seal needs to be a good fit between tank and cap, and I wonder if the groove isn't deep enough, and getting blocked by the seal ??

Cool, ta for the info Dusty. I'll have to see what mine is like when i fit it, Id be surprised if the seal is running into the groove as it would need to flex quite a bit, perhaps the seal is squashing and stopping the groove from finding atmosphere.

Maybe thats the difference with mine as Ive an OEM rubber, Roger always said the supplied seal wasnt up to much as he couldnt get an original and suggested you use an original or i think a suzuki replacement part, tho i havent got the number handy.

Final pics of the finished hybrid. I've sold her to a friend of mine and she is off to join a couple of my other previously owned bikes down in Kent; 20180524_161231 by David Miller, on Flickr 20180524_161239 by David Miller, on Flickr I've been round the block a few times and the bike feels really sweet, but she now needs to move on so I can start another. I've really enjoyed building her, and , as with all my bikes, will miss her but building them is my "thing" and she needs to go so I can start collecting parts for the next one. Thanks as always to Norbo for all the parts , Mark Cordwell for immaculate, flawless paint, and forum members for interest/encouragement and advice - much appreciated Dusty

Bike looks fantastic and i'm sure the new owner will be very pleased, these are two of, if not the best hybrids i have ever seen.
I think you have sold it for the right reasons, you still have the orange one anyway! Now you can create another another stunning build!
