With regards to the indicator switch. I always thought you should remove it if you removed the indicators. It's probably a minor issue and I would expect, down to the discretion of the tester. It took me about a minute to remove it so it's no big deal if I could of left it intact. I will ask the tester tomorrow what his thoughts are and let you know, but his interpretation may differ to other MOT places of course. Dusty Aye, that's what I were told some years ago now, just removing the indicators were not good enough, the wires and switches had to be removed too. Maybe things have changed now??

I'd say good luck with the MOT but there isn't any point, she'll sail through. One thing does worry me and that is the lack of a chain guard....

Yea the chain guard is a concern but ive no pillion pegs so hope that makes a difference ! Had a near faux pas this morning though. The lc horns are rubbish so thought id tweak them. Suddenly no horns at all 😣 clock is ticking so pinch the horns off the other bike. Still nothing. Messed around a bit and got them working. So the orange bike donates another part !! At least you can hear them now😉

Hi Alex Yea it passed with no advisories so im well happy😁 The fella that owns the shop did the Mot - the 2 stroke guy wasnt there today although the guy took a pic to show him. Didnt mention the chain guard and the switch is down to the discretion of the tester. He said some could fail it, others wouldnt. Just had my first ride up the road on it too😁 Cant go far coz of plod but it feels goooood😉 Will get the forms for registration next week and hopefully a 1982 uk reg will follow. Dusty

Not surprised it passed, I assume you built this from a euro frame awaiting registering etc? and didn't do it previous to the restore?

Cheers guys I was fairly confident it would pass coz everything is new !! But I don't like to count my chickens and all that ! I bought the bike as a non running, nearly finished hybrid project. The fella I bought it from had bought the German frame about a year previously, and then started collecting parts and getting jobs done on it. He never applied for a Nova certificate so I had to do that, and once it's ready for the road you get an MOT to prove it's roadworthy, and then you can apply for a Uk age related plate. So I now need to get the paperwork done for the Dvla, and fingers crossed, a Uk registration V5c will complete the build. Get a plate made up and she is good to go. It's been a relatively straightforward build to be honest. Previous owner had the powdercoating done, and had spent a lot of money on it. Main fly in the ointment was the engine - reputedly rebuilt by an Lc "expert", but was a total pile of sh*te Looked good outside but the inside was a horror story. The engine I had on the bench that I did the rebuild thread on was always going in anyway, but thank goodness I had it. Not sure whether I will keep it or sell it. I do like building them, probably more than riding them nowadays, and I always have to sell to do the next one. Only issue is I would probably build another along the same lines - I only do specials or hybrids - and the cost of parts will mean any future builds will probably cost more than what I get for this which puts me off a bit. It will all depend on how much I ride it and enjoy it. I've got the orange bike to finish which will now get a bit more of my time Dusty

Is any build economically viable? ie do you ever get back what you put in? because a labour of love the way you do them Dusty, even taking into consideration the enjoyment you gain these builds can soon turn into a money pit, cant they?

Yea, absolutely. But I don't drink or smoke, go to football or anything like that so I spend my pocket money on bikes. But to buy one means to sell one as the builds are generated by the previous bike, hence I've sold lots over the years They are very much a labour of love, and I do enjoy building them. I'm pretty sure I can get my build costs back on this one which would be a first for me, but I never factor in labour as it's my hobby. If I did I would never recoup my costs !! Dusty

Hi No, not a clue. I had my first bike at 16, and modified it, and every bike I've had since. I've never been without a bike, even when I deliberately didn't ride for a good few years when my kids were young. I plan on being the old fart down the shed turning something up on a lathe for an old Lc !! I plan on keeping at least one in my garage until I can no longer move them around Dusty

I really enjoy stripping them down to bare bones and starting again. It's easy to improve a scabby, unloved bike into something much better with time and elbow grease. You don't have to spend a fortune - just depends on how far you go with them. I love refurbing even the smallest parts - just polishing something up or giving it a coat of paint to improve something is great. It's the transformation I enjoy. Hi Mark Only rode it to the top of the road and back so no real idea yet. Just remember thinking how nice the Allspeeds sound. It did feel fairly smooth although I did let it warm up for a fair bit before I went out on it. And the brakes work a treat !! Hi Paul. It's cost me £7k so far. Paid £4k for it then all the bits I've done added the rest. I thought it cost me more but I had a tot up the other day. The bills soon add up. Dusty

Hag ! Really !! Isn't he a lifestyle guru now ? I seem to remember a very professional website offering motivational speaking !! Funny that I found the Performance Bikes mag with him and his Yammagamma in this morning. How he survived those years is amazing !! I wonder if he still sees Jason Emmett ? I haven't seen either of them since we left college in 84 Happy days Dusty
