A mate of mine probably six years ago bought a 31k spent a lot of money doing a real good thorough refurb as he had always wanted one back in his youth. Rode it a few times and sold as it did not match what he was expecting. His other bike was a brand new BMW Sport thingy with under seat pipes. I said to him then ride and enjoy The 31k and appreciate it for what it was but he couldn’t and sold it anyway

With the IOM as I understand it no one could leave and no one could enter, bound to have been some exceptions but cannot believe for one minute we will be allowed to go there on holiday or vica versa unless of course 10 day quarantine periods required. There was a report that a fella jet ski'd across from Scotland to see his girlfriend and ended up in deep trouble. The IOM I think still has its own government and capital punishment. Cracking place for holiday even out of TT and ClassicTT/MAnx GP though.

If you are going to be using a RD500 chassis then it has to have a RD500 engine it. 4 pipes, 4 clouds of smoke and an enchanting noise - GO FOR IT. If going big bore 350 twin then Aprilia RS250 chassis surely plus cradle kits are available and building a big bore 350 aint going to be cheap neither. AS for front and rear ends I used Yam 600 thundercat complete front end ie forks, wheels, discs, brakes, mudguard, bars - all drop straight in with just ignition switch slight tweeking. Rear end 600 Fazer swingarm from year 2000 with bottom shock arms added by NK Racing, Nitron rear shock which comes with adjustable ride height, Thundercat rear wheel disc and Fazer underslung caliper and bracket - all drops straight in with a 160 rear tyre. All bits plentiful and cheap. Pipes more like £1400 for JL GP if stainless steel and carbon cans, or plain steel with ali cans are cheaper but still £1k. Standard carbs do come fairly often just keep eyes open and they will appear. Rich

Don’t quite remember my xj550 with alfa41 sounding like that even with rose tinted hearing aids but do think air cooled for strokes with race pipes for some reason do sound better

My 500 does exactly the same after it has been stood for a while but stops after some fresh fuel has run through the carbs and cleared out the crap that seems to accumulate when fuel is left for a while

That Z1000MK2 is absolutely stunning, nicer in the original blue colour but stunning all the same. Mate of mine Tony had one of these when he was 18 years old back cicrca 1983 with an Alfa 4-1 pipe and no baffle most of the time. Memories ahhh. Remember one Xmas we were having a party in mates garage, big house in the country just off the main road and Tony had to go to works do first. Anyway all of a sudden you could hear an ear splitting back firing on the over run as Tony dropped the gears to turn into the farm drive, came around the back of the house, locked up back wheel sliding sideways flicked the side stand down killed the motor and stepped off the bike in one clean movement, roll up hanging out of corner of mouth open face matt black peakless helmet with "The Dog" painted on the side of the helmet wearing a shitty brown 3 piece suit his girlfriend gave him a kiss and he went straight into the house and re-emerged with oily jeans, t-shirt and cut off. Classic memories that stay with you forever, best thing is here we are 37 years later still friends although rarely see him and he does not seem any different now than then and we are still riding bikes.

Remember back when about 18-19 mate bought one of these brand new possibly on a b-plate and straight away on went a powerbronze twin head light top fairing, flushed in the indicators on the rear seat cowling looked real mean then as soon as the original gsxr1100 slabside came out he traded the 900r in for one of them in white and blue

I had a 250LC on L-plates just before the 125 leaner bikes came, bought it off my dad bought a Honda CB100N to do my test on and just in case I did not pass my test, luckily passed first time. Then August 1st 1984 on my 19th birthday and also the day I came out of my Carpentry and Joinery Apprenticeship I purchased a brand new RD350YPVS 31K from Mead and Tomkins Motorcycles in Gloucester for £1,695 paid in cash. Still got the engine but in a RG250MK3 frame which I built in if memory serves me right 1988? may have been a year earlier. The old man was not happy about it as he said I was destroying 2 perfectly good bikes my response was no different than you building a Triton when you were my age. Looking back he was probably right if I still had the original 31k now probably worth 3-4 times what I paid for it and the RG similar now as prices for them has rocketed recently.

Absolutely gorgeous nothing else to say. Hopefully next year with all our building works done will get my 500 out, has not been used at all this year just started and warmed through once for the grand kids to expierence. Took them one at time up and down the road on my TY175 and they loved it(private road). Mentioned to youngest Reuben will take him on the 500 and he said no to fast Grandad - he's 5yrs old.

I agree with numerous comments regarding the Yamagamma Cub C350ypvs, needs the leg shields but what a scream/scary that must be to ride. The ultimate chicken chaser. Each to their own I guess.

Mine does exactly the same after being left for a while. It does eventually catch but then the carb just starts overflowing. Drop float bowls and normally a build of gummy shitty fuel - not good. Best to crimp fuel lines and run till stops so no fuel in carbs or drain out if standing for a while or empty tank and fill with aspen fuel

From the 500 forum advise I purchased from Fowlers of Bristol a 3MA-24510-00 Fuel c**k assembly 2. Price £65.20 last year. I cannot confirm it does actually fit as it is sat on shelf as a spare. Apparently it fits according to advise on forum and shuts fuel off completely as it is not a vacuum tap? Rich.

Why did they go to the trouble of routing one of the pipes behind the carbs onto the the side of the bike why not have 2 pipes either side. Seems like a lot of extra work plus putting all that hot air off the pipe in the way of cool air being sucked into the carbs when 2 strokes I belive run better in cooler air. It does look good though Rich

I would love these to succeed but unless less than 12k cannot see them selling many and a cannot believe for one minute they could even get close to that figure. Personally I would not want to be paying that much for a complete unknown. If it was a Yamaha or another one of the Japanese manufacturers then maybe. Pereguine Motorcycles unfortunately could not make a go of it. Although accept that was using 1980's engine as a base point and they were expensive. Does look good though.

What amazes me is once clear of the crash they still pin it until the red flag comes out, I guess that is when the realization of what just happened kicks in. Valentino's reaction and face when he got off the bike really did show his immediate thoughts yet they go back out a few minutes later and go flat out again. They ALL really are something special and you could argue mad but all the same top respect to all the riders.

mmmmm not sure about this one cannot quite decide if I like it or not. Like the forks, wheels, swingarm, pipes although silencers need to be parallel to each other. Seat, tiny side panel bars and kick start lever just look a little odd to me. Love the Mars Bar colour though.
