Thank you Petros, I have seen you bike on here it is very, very good,
I took the engine apart last week, almost every bearings needs to be replaced. The crank bearings are too far gone but what's strange is that the inner race rotates on the crank when trying to spin the bearing.
This can't be right? Has anyone seen that before?

Hi again, I did make some progress the last couple of weeks, but it is more like one step forward and two steps back. Here is a picture of the new tail-light and mudguard that I got from norbo IMG_1915 by k.apostolopoulos, on Flickr You all have seen how an engine looks like when taken apart, but I could not resist posting some pics: IMG_1918 by k.apostolopoulos, on Flickr IMG_1919 by k.apostolopoulos, on Flickr IMG_2186 by k.apostolopoulos, on Flickr As you may notice there is a big chunk missing from the upper case caused by a broken chain I need a scrap upper case as donor to cut the piece off and weld to mine, can anyone help? would an LC one do? This is a maching numbers bike. As said the crankshaft is wasted and the genius that did the engine last time did not fit the crankshaft locating plate in the bearing groove. So the crank webs were rubbing on the case!! I also started working on the fairings, here is some amateur plastic welding repairs, Before: IMG_1907 by k.apostolopoulos, on Flickr After: IMG_1937 by k.apostolopoulos, on Flickr I used my old scrap inner mudguard and cut some thin slices to use as a welding rod, came our very strong as I did try to break it but it looks prety strong Thats about it for now. any help with a scrap case is welcome Cheers Kostas

Hi all, Have been doing some progress the last week but looks like it is one step forword and three back. Started with sanding down the fairings and had the tank stripped to metal after reading the issues shane250 had with his one. The tank has over 30 dents on it all covered with a thick layer of filler, also there is a good size hole that was sealed with some kind of epoxy adhensive, which explains the bubble on the paint at that area of the tank here are a couple of pictures from the tank. previus owner used a grinder so ruin an already hard to find expensive part. IMG_2181 by k.apostolopoulos, on Flickr IMG_0046 by k.apostolopoulos, on Flickr As many on here say, some people should not be allowed close to tools. Then I found that both my exhausts had a loose piece inside, so took the dremel out and went for it. Here is my exhaust and the piece that was ratling inside IMG_0047 by k.apostolopoulos, on Flickr What do I do with it now?? weld that piece back? throw it out? what does this do anyway? Thanks for the input! Kostas

Got some things done as I have some time off from work. Blasted my barrels, used fine glass bead Before IMG_2038 by k.apostolopoulos, on Flickr After IMG_2048 by k.apostolopoulos, on Flickr IMG_2046 by k.apostolopoulos, on Flickr Also got the head stripped down, the stupid old owner has stamped number 8 all over the bike, had to polish out the wheels, footrests, and a whole much more due to that Here is who this looks like, IMG_2058 by k.apostolopoulos, on Flickr What was this guy thinking?? Cheers Kostas

Maybe he was Chinese - the number 8 is considered auspicious in Chinese culture.

Common in other circles so you can ID parts when they are knicked and spotted on steal bay ! but pehaps he thought it was a lucky number, though judging by the panel damage perhaps 13 would have been more relevant !

Shes giving you some headaches on the way Kostas but your winning in my book!
As you have found, most of the problems with our bikes at this age seem to have been caused by previous owners bodgery.

Number 8 must have been the only punch this bloke had and I bet thumper is correct. This must have been done to find stolen parts back it the day. These used to be very popular bikes to get kicked.
I'm gone win in the end Copper, might take longer but I will. Have a lot of open fronds right now, fairings, tank, engine, exhausts bla bla bla... but I will get there.
Cheers Kostas

The only reason I thought of what the "8" stamping might be, is during my apprenticeship as a mechanic, we were advised to stamp our tools to prevent mix ups etc (fights is clearly what they meant) unfortunately the stamp set was incomplete, I selected from the few remaining and having looked what others had stamped on theirs, I stamped I8U on mine, the majority of which I still have today some 36 years later, the pic you posted reminded me, I8U I beleived was aimed at anyone who took them, as everytime they used them they would see I HATE YOU well thats what I believed as a spotty AP50 riding youth !!
Cheers and Kalinichta (sorry regards the spelling........well I am English after all)

Perhaps the previous owner had a whole collection of them, and somewhere out there is at least 1-7 and who knows 9+ perhaps if everyone were to have a close look at theirs ! Unless; its taking the "matching numbers" to the extreme "Yeah yeah I'm interested, but could you tell me if the foot rests and wheel rims have matching numbers mate " ?

I have a good friend that rents a couple of sailing boats at Ionian sea during summer. PM me if interested Cheers Kostas

Nice work there Kostas !!! you fitted in properly the missing piece to your case. With a good welding job you solved the problem. Fyi the 29L is fm RZ 250 case ( identical cases & tranny with the 350 just the top was 250cc ) these were imported in Greece used fm Japan and the engine cases were stamped with 29L and with no number like the 31K & latest 1UA models which were imported officially fm Yamaha.
