The oil pump seal, with some red grease to aid it, can be pushed in next. The final seating is done with the bolt and washers again, just so I dont put too much pressure on the middle part of the seal; 20221026_201726 by dusty miller, on Flickr Once that is in, the spacer can be fitted; 20221026_204034 by dusty miller, on Flickr Then the pump shaft can be gently pushed through, with some lubricant on the seal to aid it. Fit the cog locating pin; 20221026_204205 by dusty miller, on Flickr Then the pump drive cog; 20221026_204214 by dusty miller, on Flickr And then, on the Lc and early Pv's, you would just fit a new circlip, but I also fit the lock washer that is found on the F2 Pv's for added security; 20221026_204333 by dusty miller, on Flickr Fold the tab over on the lock washer to finish; 20221026_204802 by dusty miller, on Flickr The last seal to fit is a new kickstart shaft seal; 20221026_202911 by dusty miller, on Flickr This is an easy push in; 20221026_203010 by dusty miller, on Flickr Side case is now ready to go on. Eeh Dusty, I never knew the later models had an extra tab washer for the oil pump drive.

Cheers Chris Bill, the lock washer appeared on the F2 Pv, the earlier models didn't have it. Fits straight on an Lc and earlier valves Fitted the case tonight. A new gasket first; 20221027_190356 by dusty miller, on Flickr Currently Β£26.60 from Fowlers. I put a bit of insulating tape on the splines of the kickstart, and a smear of red grease over the tape, to save any damage to the seal. With the gasket in place. you can offer up the case and ease it into place. You may have to turn the oil pump shaft and the impellor a touch so the gears engage with the primary drive sprocket. Once the case is fully seated, you can add the case bolts. I use stainless socket cap heads that have been buffed up a little on the polishing wheel; 20221027_191655 by dusty miller, on Flickr Tighten those up, then add the water pump gasket; 20221027_192844 by dusty miller, on Flickr I use "low head" stainless cap heads here, although there may be enough clearance with the pump cover if you use normal cap heads; 20221027_193756 by dusty miller, on Flickr Next is the aluminium centre disc with the Pv damper fitted; 20221027_193831 by dusty miller, on Flickr Lastly, a polished alloy dipstick from Norbo, and it's basically finished; 20221027_202723 by dusty miller, on Flickr 20221027_202704 by dusty miller, on Flickr I need 2 new plugs, send the oil pump to Arrow, and get the dial gauge out and check the timing. Left side cover will get Cerakoted - just got to decide whether to keep the cable or go hydraulic, but apart from that, it's finished Dusty

Looks a bit different to when I took it out of the Fzrd, back in May; 20220501_145529 by dusty miller, on Flickr Tomorrow's job will be tidy up the kickstart. I think it's been powder coated, and I want to polish it to add some contrast to the black casing. 20221027_084316 by dusty miller, on Flickr 20221027_084431 by dusty miller, on Flickr Not easy to polish due to the rough surface, but I will give it a go ! Well, dont fancy doing that again in a hurry ! Had to go over the kick start with a Dremel to smooth out the rough finish. Could have spent longer, but I was losing the will to live after half an hour !! Then onto my polishing wheel - again, at least an hour with different mops and grades of soap. Happy with it now. Rebuilt with an assortment of shims that I had, so it's nice and wobble free ! 20221029_160838 by dusty miller, on Flickr

Usually have an assortment of clips for the carb clamps, but must have run out of them. The original green pair from the 250Lc had a run in with the polishing wheel and came up pretty good, so on they go; 20221030_184427 by dusty miller, on Flickr Oil pump is now ready to go to Arrow. Looked a bit manky; 20221030_070841 by dusty miller, on Flickr So thought I would clean it up a bit for Gary; 20221030_184459 by dusty miller, on Flickr That will be the last major component to refurb. Dusty, That final photo of the almost completed engine is testament to your skill and patience - well done Sir!. The cerakoted finish is an excellent contrast to the polished components imho, and looks the business ππ».

Cheers guys Just wanted to do something different to my last few engines. I normally go with plain vapour blasting on the barrels, but thought I would try the polished look. And Cerakote is a perfect finish for bike parts. The fact plastic parts can be coated with the same paint as the metal parts means no differences between them. It is a thin coating though, so surface prep is more important than it would be for a thicker powder finish, so worth bearing in mind. Fitted the carbs tonight. Bought these already refurbed off ebay, just needed to add slides, needles and springs which I already had thankfully. Looks nearly done now ; 20221101_201900 by dusty miller, on Flickr

Brilliant thread and finished results. So the kick-start is polished steel? I'm confused here. Neil

Not sure if the kickstart is all steel - it certainly attracts a magnet. It appears like a cast finish, then the green passivate over the top to protect it. I smoothed out the rough surface with a dremel fitted with abrasive pads and then used the polishing wheels on my bench grinder to tidy it up. Just wouldn't have looked right if I had bolted the standard kicker straight back on. Dusty

Yes its some kind of cast steel I believe as its got to be strong. it'll need some kind of coating to avoid rusting I fear.

The last component for the engine has arrived back from Arrow - my rebuilt 350 oil pump; 20221221_134342 by dusty miller, on Flickr As ever, the service Gary offers, and the quality of his work is just outstanding I know we often say it, but Gary is a true master in what he does. When he dismantled my pump, a nasty surprise was in store 20221221_134306 by dusty miller, on Flickr 20221221_134249 by dusty miller, on Flickr 20221221_134258 by dusty miller, on Flickr 20221221_134315 by dusty miller, on Flickr That was unexpected, and not something Gary see's very often. Makes you wonder where the broken tooth ended up ? Anyway, Gary has had new gear wheels made up, by supplying an original to a firm who tested the hardness and selected the correct grade of steel to manufacture new gear wheels. This allows not only an exchange for damaged wheels like mine, but also the ability to convert a 250 pump to a 350 pump - it's only this gear that differs between the 2 pumps (you would need the correct drive shaft too of course). The camshaft in my pump wasn't great either, so Gary exchanged that for whilst it was apart. He is also getting pulley springs remade, and has taken delivery of remade shims in 0.7, 0.5 and 0.3mm. True dedication to the oil pump cause Thanks Gary, awesome job Dusty

Pleased to be of assistance Dusty. The parts I had made came out of necessity, in order to improve and maintain the service and ultimately to keep these fantastic bikes on the road.
I did look into having some 1A0 pulleys made (for the air cooled RD's) and the drawings were completed with CAD, but even quite a large batch would have been eye wateringly expensive!
