I wasn't really looking for another project but a matching number import came up local to me.. Only done PV's so thought I'd take a punt on it. The guy had started to restore it but was diagnosed with the big C so sold it on. First job is to see exactly what I've bought 🙄

That looks a great project. Looks like most of it is there so a good start from the off. Looking forward to see what you do with it. Options are endless 😉 John.

To be honest, I'll probably just build it as a standard tidy bike, no green olive bollocks 😀 Got my name down on Arrow's list for a pump rebuild.. The rolling chassis has been 'done' and a new wiring loom has been fitted but I'll start again for my piece of mind. The frame and swing arm has been painted so that can stay as it is, fork bottoms will be stripped of the black paint...

From what I can recall the South American bikes had older carbs to handle the awful 20% ethanol fuel they use and they may have restrictor washers in the exhaust down tubes. All easily fixed, and have fun with the build.

There was a spate of 5R3s imported from South America a few years ago, most of them were truly horrible and many were way beyond saving. Almost all of these were sold to guys who saw pics of LCs, had dreamy memories and money but sadly had their head turned by a cheap project and didnt research the forums first. The seller/importer was a bit of an arse by all accounts and it was widely reported on here at the time. Luckily yours looks to be one of the better ones. I would still give this a really good check over on the frame for rust and bodges as some of these were really badly bodged and even more poorly maintained as cheap runabouts in country as I guess they were the transport of those for whom cash was tight.
Looks a good project. Excited to see it come together.

Well finaly got round to having a look at the bike, fairly pleased as the frame looks good, new loom and most of the electrics are fitted (wether they work is another matter 🤣) Wheels have been painted to a ok standard, certainly good enough for the standard I'm looking for, new metzeler tyres Then you get silly things like why bother painting and fitting a rear torque arm with a big dint in it ?? Anyway, its on the bench now so I can strip it down to refurb forks and see what the swing arm bushes are like...

Hi Mark good to meet you at the weekend (you bought the pipes off me), that's a good start for a project it's a lot better than mine was when I got it, will be watching to see how you get on with it. Trevor

Are those pattern indicators (black and black with a white tracer) indicators on the front. Or are they genuine rear indicators (black and brown LH and black and green RH)?
They look like genuine rear lenses to me?

Surprised no one has mentioned the headlight brackets upside down yet Assumed youve be pulling it all apart again and righting any wrongs lol You can tell as the 250 horn bracket is on the wrong side if the shape / angle hadnt been obvious. Of course they must also be missing their steel distancing tangs for this to even be a thing... FWIW the length of those must have been mentioned on here before id have thought if not someone will measure for you etc.

Interesting that the 5R3 models don’t appear to have the asterix either side of the frame number.

Brake plate torque arm ‘dint’ is probably an intentional ‘power bulge’, Probably was originally fitted the other way around so the dent face inwards just where an oversize tyre would otherwise touch.

Not done much to the bike but collected a few parts, top Airbox, L/H caliper for the twin disk, a original front guard and a couple of better side panels Been messing about with my new toy, a cheapo blast cabinet, got a decent extraction system and replaced the shitty light with a led unit. I still want to change the media delivery to a gravity fed system rather than having the tube stuck in the beads but seems to do the job 😁

Loads of bits and bobs gone off to local zinc platers and stripped the paint off fork lowers and lacquered

Got my bits back from the zinc platers, so it's back to a rolling chassis, got the proper disc bolts/tabs etc so looks a bit more original but still replacing most of the missing bolts with S/Steel, not going mad with it..... Blasted the peg hangers, DA sanded and a few coats of lacquer
