Well my 1200 quid RZ250 turned up today, probably about as bad as i expected, most of the wiring is missing including the stator but to be fair, this was started on the advert. lots of work obviously, complete tear down but on the plus side, the "stuck in gear" was just the gear lever turning on the splines because there was no pinch bolt, once i put a bolt in and tightened up i got it into neautral so thats cool. Clocks are showing 16km but who knows if there original...
The fork chrome looks ok.....errrr, thats about for the good points
Being a LC noob (my last one was a original 350, 30 years ago) i will need lots of help and advice, mainly to do with the wiring and whats compatable between a jap RZ and UK parts to start with.
I'm right in thinking i've bought a LC2 31k model code?
I've got to finish my 1982 katana first (another complete frame up resto, i'm basically down to painting the bodywork now) so i'll just be trying to get hold of bits for now.
i can rebuild the engine myself and do the paint and tank repair (panel beater by trade) so hopfully it wont be a black hole money pit !
Just need to get Flickr pics sussed out....

I do love a Katana. Top 3 prettiest bikes ever are that, a 916 and an LC (natch).

Thats a lot of project for 1200 quid. I think you did ok, but it will be a bit o work for sure.
Looks like you have 51L cylinders, thats great news. 51L head? 1GA carbs?
You really would be better with a 51L-50 CDI or a Zeel and the 2 piece later 250 pipes on that to get the full effect of what yamaha created. see my 251LC pages on my site for info on what 51L means.

I think that's good for £1200. You can pay a grand for an engine on it's own nowadays, albeit a 350. The end cost depends on how you want to build it of course, and looking at your lovely Katana you'll spend a small fortune on the Pv I expect, but who cares (apart from the wife and Bank Manager of course !!) Stick a list of what you need in the "Wanted" section - guys have all sorts of bits knocking about Dusty

Going to try and make a basic parts list that I need so I can keep an eye out for cheap bits as they appear. Would it be worth doing a compression test first or just start ripping the engine to bits?

Well you’ve got a very good starting point for sure and at a bargain price too. You’re going to have to get it stripped down to get the full picture, but it is definitely worth doing, just decide what you want it to be done to and start collecting parts.
Compression test.......why bother..it’s going to need a full rebuild either way.

I agree - an engine rebuild is a given and any area of leakage you find now is gonna get sorted anyway. It's a good idea for when it's rebuilt though Dusty

I can a L8 on the carbs, does that mean anything? I think you'll find that you have Japanese style restrictive carbs on there, check out www.rd350lc.net for a little bit more information.
