Is that spray on asbestos? Fibreglass, spent 4 hrs in the acid bath 😄 I'll get my wire wheel on it tomorrow, see what's left

hmm... thats often the way after a dipping, sometimes its not fixable but its better to know now than spend time and money on it and then it leaks.

Test fit and how it stands now, I don't really want to line it so mixed up some chemical metal to cover the welds to stop any pin holes... As it stands now, ready for a sand down then get some filler in it..

Wow, some serious commitment there. That would have been a good day of welding and pausing, over n over. fair play to you for the efforts, hope it works out for you.

First test with a gallon of panel wipe in, just 1 pin hole...that's because I heated it up after welding to knock the recess in for the frame clearance, must of cracked the weld 🙄 Anyway quick blast with the MIG and sorted

Test 2 today, all good so far so I'll leave in in for a few hours, then if ok, I can get some filler in it Think I'll put some 2 stroke in the tank to give it a bit of a lining to stop any flash rust forming until its painted and got petrol in...

My eyes are hurting!
The obvious question is are you going to have a go at it or buy another?

Fair play for giving it a go and fixing something rather than just buying another one.

Got some Caustic soda for the pipes, think I might as well clean them out a bit before I start cutting them about to repair the damage. Sat in the shed now, filled up with soda and a rubber bung in the end so I'll give it 24hrs and see if it's done anything.....

Couldn't be bothered looking at the exhausts so thought I'd try and button up the engine, Side cases blasted, few repairs and a couple of coat of Simonize tough black. Bolted on today, clutch adjusted, Arrow pump on and the lines plumbed in....

Me too, thought it was a bent swingarm, but assuming it's a twisted chainguard I've got the same with a rear mudguard. Excellent work on the tank, did you MIG all the repair sections in, as I spotted an Argon bottle in the pics, so guessing TIG was a better option?

MIG welder, I get a bottle from a local supplier, cheaper to get re-fills 😉 Would like a TIG welder but would want AC/DC so I could weld aluminium. To be honest I can't really justify (or afford) one.....

SLOSH. Never heard of it, I've always used POR15 but I'll have a google on that one. Made by Rustbusters thought I'd try it, I liked the fact its quite watery so easy to "slosh" around the tank, to get full coverage.....

Yep, looks interesting, I'll wait to see how it works out for you before moving from using the POR15 though.
