Bolted clocks on and pattern ignition switch, result that the petrol cap worked with the key 😁 Just need to strip the helmet lock and re-jig the tumblers so that matches...

On to brake calipers, shot blasted them, painted with engine enamel then baked. The L/H caliper I sourced was rebuilt with new pistons/seals EBC pads etc. The original R/H was a bit more challenging 🙄 The original shims were missing and seem to be un-obtainable!! So I made them using a bit of stainless I had kicking about. Next was the general sloppy fit of the caliper to the carrier, so I machined up a slightly over sized new pin, wipe down with engineers blue and jobs a gud'n 😁 Next was the carriers mounting threads, half stripped so tapped & helicoiled. Finally I got some shouldered bolts but of course my helicoils are 1.5 pitch and the original bolts aren't 😆 so I quick run down the bolts with a 1.5 die and that's both calipers bolted on 😁

Cracked on with the electrics, got everything working except the indicators, after alot of head scratching finally sussed it out... The middle connector in the switch had worn down so it wasn't making contact, built it up with solder and jobs a gud'n The rolling chassis is just about done...

Not done much else except gathering bits for the engine rebuild, got most of the bits now so can make a start... The top case had the usual chain damage, a piece had been welded on but not a great job 🙄 Cleaned it up and added some weld (solder?) Using these Alloy welding rods, seemed to work ok...

Of course the elephant in the room is that there is no lug for the side case bolt, and indeed no lug on the side either.... So knocked up a slug in the lathe and welded on, again using the alloy rods. Not perfect but better than is was and it's not gonna be a show bike 😂

Hi , that's great work, you have done a nice job 👍👍 Cheers, no fancy TIG for me, just a MAPP gas touch and alloy welding rods but i bought the Durafix rods, more expensive but get good reviews. seem to work ok but i wouldnt want to weld (braze?) a subframe up with them

Wonder if the Ven bikes are restricted like some german bikes? Hi Mak, I am also new to the LC rebuild world, I also bought a 350 lc project in August and then found out it was a Venezuela import. I am still at the strip down stage but so far not found any complete horrors apart from a side stand fix that looks like Stevie Wonder welded it! would be good to share any info you find along the way.

To be honest, its been pretty straight forward up to now, just the usual 40 year old wear/bodges... Loads of info on the site and there's a great bunch of knowledgeable lads that have probably done it all before......

I have read a few issues with reference to getting date conformation on South American Yams to enable date related registration. If you manage to get any info on this it would be good to know.

Ive spoked to Paul Dawkins about mine and sent a pic of the vin stamp, mines ok but Paul said a lot have been re-stamped and normally badly !

Cracking on with the motor, gearbox is ok but replaced a couple of the bearings, crank was fubar but got a decent spare in my stash.. New pistons and seals etc from PJ, gear shaft seal mod, new alloy water pipe. Stator looked a mess but surprisingly all the resistance readings checked out so cleaned it up and new plugs/shrink wrap etc. Flywheel was rusty AF but all the magnets were sound so cleaned up in my blast cabinet, a quick going over with wire wool then a wipe over with acf50 Put clutch basket on but alot a play in the centre bush so ordered a new bush from MBD The cases were also blasted and wire wool, near enough for me (I'm no Dusty 😁) Barrels and head painted in VHT satin black Its not a concourse build but looks decent Edit ..Got it in the frame last night 😁

Not done much to the bike but collected a few parts, top Airbox, L/H caliper for the twin disk, a original front guard and a couple of better side panels Been messing about with my new toy, a cheapo blast cabinet, got a decent extraction system and replaced the shitty light with a led unit. I still want to change the media delivery to a gravity fed system rather than having the tube stuck in the beads but seems to do the job 😁 can i ask what size compressor you are running for to make this work , wanting to do the same as a hobby for bike bits for myself ZiG

The project has stalled somewhat, mainly due to knocking walls down and building a new kitchen 🙄 Anyway thought I'd kick start my motivation, got the dating cert, filled in the V55/5 and got the various paperwork needed, hoping to skip the MOT due to now being historic status....see what DVLA have to say 🤣 So already to post of Tuesday. Also dropped the tank down to a local spot that has a acid dip so let's see that's left when I pick it up next week 😳 On a brighter note, the PV is still running great and had it's last MOT before it hits Historic 😁

great work on this, not many of the south american imports were worth saving from what i saw on ebay, so this is a great effort.
If you do manage to make a gravity feed solution for the blast cab do let me know, I have the same unit... also with LED light and extraction.

Will do, got a few idea's but with moving house 18 months ago and it basically was an old dear's bungalow that hadn't been touched, been flat out modernising it, kitchen is the last big job, then I can get back to important things like motorbikes 😄😄

Are you just melting zip ties into the breaks? No, using a proper plastic welding gun and ABS rods...
