Totally get why you might want something without the Jekyll/Hyde drive of the 421 as its not teh most relaxing engine lol. but also great that youve kept the 421 whole as well in case you want to swap the few parts back and ride it like that again. I assume the bhp figures were at the crank not the rear wheel? Hi Jon I'd presumed it was at the wheels I'm pretty certain it is. I know dynojets have a reputation of reading high so I'm unsure of how accurate it is. What I found interesting was how close in the rpm peak hp was between the 2 setups both at 8.8k rpm. To me this seems a little low in the rev range to be peaking, if I could get it up to 9.5k would it keep climbing in hp I don't know. It's possibly down to the lenght of my headers and stinger size I D. And yes mate ive kept everything for when I get bored again lol. Rob

Hee hee, great planning Rob. Love it. I didnt think this through... I bought whole bikes to build with different engines, I should have done this... would have done more riding lol

So I got bored again. Thought I'd put on the bigger carbs to do a comparison. I'm just waiting on more jets to arrive before I start it up. I've ordered 145 & 148 mains and some 35 pilots. The only thing other than the carbs I've changed is the intake manifolds these are single billet ones with no crossover. I do like these abit better than the one piece manifold as they don't push the carbs as far back Giving more room for the filters and the cables. There also good cause they still lift the carbs high enough to miss the clutch arm I think they must be a few degrees different to stock manifolds. I'm hopefully going to get it on the dyno again to compare the 2 setups 👍

Looks like a small pink squid is trying to strangle the carbs Alex

Looking great UNI do angled dual stage filters if that helps. I fitted them on the Cafe bike as standard pod filters would have been squashed up against the frame tubes, deforming them; 20190926_073243 by dusty miller, on Flickr 20190926_114815 by dusty miller, on Flickr May help if space is an issue Dusty

Received the pilots today just waiting on the mains should get them tomorrow. The filters arnt that bad now I can live with them, thanks for the heads up on them angled ones tho 👍 cheers Rob

No problem. Mine is an aircooled frame so maybe worst for filters than an Lc frame ?

I got the bike back on the dyno on Tuesday. Note the rpms have been changed for speed. Before I went I had been testing numerous jetting changes on the road to get the bike to run well. First test was with the 35 pilots 148 mains the bike would not rev just off throttle so set air screws in to 1/2 turn and it revved up better. Put 38 pilots in still felt lean at 1.5 turns on the airscrews. After various jet and needle clip adjustments I ended up back how they were setup for the athenas 160 mains 42 pilots Needle 4th clip. The bike felt good on the road maybe not as smooth on the bottom but not too bad. Only did one run again on the dyno to see how it was doing and was surprised with the result. Max hp 55.4 So down 4 hp on top. Gained a little on the bottom and midrange. I was expecting the opposite : loss down low gain on top. I know its not ideal just doing one run on each setup with no jetting changes etc but it gave a little insight to the difference. I have since put the 31k carbs back on with other manifold as I had it and slight increase on the main jet from 370 to 380's Pilots 25 Airscrew 1 turn Needle 4th clip The bike is running fantastic very smooth with lots of midrange it's revs up extremely fast on the road, its a true pleasure to ride 👍.
