Little update on this I wanted to check what specifications I have on this engine before I go any further. Using a 0.6 base gasket 22cc domes here's what I have managed to figure out. Squish gap : around 1mm Exhaust duration : 192 degrees Transfer duration : 124 degrees Blow down : 33 degrees Uncorrected compression ratio 13:4:1 Corrected compression ratio 7:4:1 From what I've read these results all seem to be in the ballpark for the engine to run okay and be safe. I realy wanted to have a go at building a set of pipes so I bought: Sheet of 1.2mm mild steel Slip roller 12" Disc sander. Using a online expansion chamber calculator I entered my port timings and calculations and have been able to make a fairly accurate set of pipes. It's been a compromise of actually getting the sizes and shape to fit the dimensions of the frame, swingarm, chain centre stand and side stand. Starting with cardboard templates adjusting and making changes as we're needed ive been able to acheive a decent looking set of pipes I'm realy happy how there turning out . I just hope they perform well I can make changes So these are going to be a test set and hopefully get it on a dyno to see how good/bad they perform. I'm also making the silencers and am realy happy with these they'll be fairly loud tho I think. I have just bought a cheap tig welder so waiting for that to come and will hopefully be able to do a decent job of welding the cones up fully. I've never done tig welding so im excited to give it a go. I may be asking for some tips from you Chris (sidney81)😉 Cheers Rob 👍

Thats fantastic work there, and them roller's are the tits !!! I'd of loved to of made my own like that but I'm not clever enough to work all the volume's out etc 😂, credit to ya looking great 😎👌

Thanks Chris I'm no Einstein mate 😂 im sure you could if you put your mind to it the computer does all the hard work well I say that I think the hardest part is the welding 😉.

Hi Rob I think it's great that you are doing it yourself and i love the shape of those pipes. From the specs you posted up, the uncorrected compression ratio looks too high. I ended up lowering mine to about 11.5:1 (I think) i need to find my notes. I went from 23cc domes to 26cc. I cant comment on corrected compression ratios but lowering my uncorrected compression ratio helped the engine rev better. I also altered my exhaust port duration from 194 to 196 degrees Also i measured the combustion space above the piston crown with oil as only using the dome cc wil give a slightly different ratio. Sorry if i'm teaching grandad to suck eggs. Keep up the good work.

Sorry if i'm teaching grandad to suck eggs. Keep up the good work. Not at all Tony all advice is much appreciated I'm learning all this for the first time so am glad to hear other people's thoughts and ideas. I did work out the trapped volume of the combustion chamber using the method that you used by sealing the piston with grease at tdc then filling up with oil, this came out to a reading of 17cc meaning the piston crown volume was 5cc. I'd doubled checked the dome was 22cc with sparg plug in upside down and filled with oil and it was 22cc. I was going to ask you when you filled up the dome via spark plug with oil id noticed you had filled to the top of the spark plug threads. Looking at a few different people doing this and some filled to the top of thread some at the bottom. I ended up subtracting the amount of oil that was filling were the spark plug goes which was 2cc. A couple of pics of the calculator I'd used I'd inputed deck height as 0 and piston crown at 0 as I'd worked it out and subtracted it already off the dome volume. Cheers Rob

Hi bud 👋 cool they look great especially as it's your first time with a Tig !! There not going to fall apart!! It's all about having ago . What's your gas set at ? You want about 8-10 ltr per min , as soon as you dip your tungsten ,sharpen it back up again rather than try carry on , good effort I say well done 😊👍

Hi Chris I had the gas set to around 10 mate 👍 Current was set at 40. Since doing the pipes I practiced abit more and turned it up to 60 and it seemed to flow the rod/weld easier I wish I'd of done them with it turned up abit now lol. Although starting off I had it on about 30 cause it kept burning a hole. Any minute gap and it would burn through what a pain 😂. I have definitely learned alot mate as you said any gap/lip caused me an issue. Next set I will get the cones alot tighter fit 👍. I must have dipped the tungstens about 50 times lol. It's hard getting my left and right hand to work in sync. I just need to stay calm and not start shaking 😂😂 Rob
