Glad that you are keeping the 51Ls and giving them a go. Always nice to see those top ends saved.

Same as USA carbs i think.
We didnt get those, we had 1GA versions. They are PJs.
RE stator and flywheel, our 51Ls were the 85 model units. im using them on an 83/4 at the mo so I assume you can use the parts the other way round. you need to check the various versions of Martin K's what-fits-what that are doing the rounds online tho, and you will need to make up loom/plus to suit. There will be fun n games with the kill switch wiring and im not sure about the triggers etc. I put an 85 in my LC on my 51L engine swap, i drew a wiring diagram by looking at the bike specific wiring and went from there. 30mins of quiet time with pen paper and a haynes for the diagrams would have you sorted i'd think.

Thanks, a guy of fb has a rz250 1xH-50 cdi, I think that's the slightly later model, any idea if that would work, if I don't get the 51L of ebay. It's half the price !

it will work, but its not a 51L, I think the 1XH is the same as the 29L re the curve etc. It will also not just plug in, the 1XH has the later plugs.

I wasn't happy with the rear suspension set up, no static sag and with using the standard totally non adjustable yzf rear shock I couldn't do a lot about it. Sure it was how the rear bottom knuckle was mounted, anyway I've fettled the mounting plates I made so now the knuckle is parallel to the ground rather than at an angle. It feels much better now with linear suspension movement so happy with the rear end now. I can always get a yzf YSS shock if needed once on the road but that's a good while off yet !!! I've ordered a rear sprocket from B&C got to be cut from a blank so it fits the yzf rear wheel but in a 520 pitch rather than the standard 428 for a yzf. Don't fancy a skinny 428 chain in the bike. On to the front and when I put a tank on the bike, the yzf clip on's touched the tank, didn't want to bugger about with the lock stops as I've allready got a MT125 top yoke, I've gone that route with a renthal fatbars I had kicking about. Also the MT top yoke has some lugs which a assume are for mounts clocks etc so I can use them when I make a mount for the Koso clocks I've got. The renthal's needed a good inch chopping off them so they didn't look like cowhorns 😁😁 Nicked the seat off my other bike and it feels pretty good with the R1 rearsets. On to the engine, PJME are on with rebuilding the crank, got all new seals off Norbo, my oil pump is going off to Arrow tomorrow as I've got to the top of the list AND I've found a great set of 350 barrels on .50 with good PV's and a set of 31k carbs to go with them. Pick them up tomorrow...happy days 😀😀😀 Still need to source a set of pipes, no idea what yet and I need a cdi and PV controller so think I'm going to get a ignitech unit off DaveW once my wallet as recovered 🤑

Looking good Mark, I’ll have to check the suspension on mine when I get the frame back I used the adjustable plates designed for the rgv arm Ricky

Been a good productive couple of days on my yzf-rd project. Got the dummy engine in and the custom rear sprocket arrived from B&C so I could check out chain run. As I thought, the swing arm was angled too far down so I've remade the linkage mounting plates so the arm is now flat and it feels and looks alot better now. The chain run looks spot on, I'll just need a offset front sprocket, probably about 5mm but going to leave that measurement for now until it gets it's real motor in. I dropped the forks 10mm working on the principle that if I get the lower frame rails parallel to the ground, it's a good starting point. As a bonus, with the bike lower, the side stand is now the right length 😁😁

That does look better on the rear.
For the sprocket, are you having to space the front outwards?
