Today…. Good and bad. Got the box of bits for the most recent bike that contains the top end and some clutch parts. Good news is the bores are useable at +.5 but need to be at +.75 PV’s are good, one worn bush. Joint, not so good. Head, pebble dashed chambers but it’s not bent or cracked Carbs are good but don’t need them Clutch drive is suffering a little rust from bad storage Reeds, cages and spacers are all good but again won’t need them I’m giggling over the various bodges and permanent but temporary fixes I’m finding - wrong screws and fittings so lots of tidying up. A987OTT will live again soon!!!

Refitted the number plate, screwed the side stand stand back on, removed the gaffer tape from the head lamp and removed some numbers from the tail fin. Ive been couped up in my house this week with a sore back and was going a bit stirr crazy. I really did have the need, not for speed but adrenaline and some attention. So took a few extra pain killers and drove to the local bike shop. The bike got lots of attention and a few people told me they saw a bike similar to this one last week racing here at the Classic Races. The best remark was another man who saw a bike similar to this one but in much better codition racing last weekend. The action really cheered me up even though my back didn't like it afterwards. I didn't tell anyone it was the same bike.

Went out for a 60 mile blat/bimble through some of the country lanes of Hampshire. Big smiles as always + plus lots of pointing from blokes over 50 that I went by. 🤓
It’s good to smoke 💨

31k engine build started - well, was supposed to start today but..
Tapped and checked all the case threads, all good Ran a die over everything that was going to be used - all good Checked clutch basked and primary drive - rusty and shagged so had to swap in another (annoyed). Washed everything down with petrol and rechecked, it’s ready for the tranny and new bearings.
So looks like tomorrow I’ll get the cases joined and start to assemble the rest of the motor.
And yeah, I paid £230 for a centre stand - Jesus… they were £20 a pop last time I bought one.

Rode it along the Antrim coast road just taking in the views and watching other middle aged men point at it.. one things for sure when you go for a spin on any LC you always end up talking to men with rose tinted glasses on !!!!!

Frustrating day but defeated some demons.
The 31k cases are as clean and ready as they will ever be. Completed a dry dummy build and all went well so I think I’m ready to do it for real. All new stainless studs and screws, nuts, bolts and washers. Looks nice. Sometimes I wish I wasn’t so fussy but that’s how it is. Pondering over using the clutch damper rings, always binned them in the past as they never seemed to add to the engine…

This is very true which is why the cases and threads get treated with some purple stuff that the USAF use on anything aluminium on their aircraft carriers. I’ve got a few gallons of it and use it on Audi TT heads and plenums. I think it’s called ACF60 or something like that.

After falling out with my hybrid last year after I tried to solve low down jetting I decided it give it some love tonight as my previous attempt made it worse I have JJJ needles for it but as I'd changed pilots last year as well as raising the needle I thought I'd reset the JJH needles back to centre clip so I could see if it was any better so bodywork off, needles adjusted, tyres blown up and off out I went 10 miles later it's back to how it's was 😀 A little bit of machine gunning at the bottom end when trundling but no stuttering or flat spots Revs out again too as was tailing off with the raised needle so was too rich I'll be a brave boy at some point and try the JJJ's to see if it leans out the small openings as changing pilots is doing nothing Steve

I looked at it
Bought some ball bearings for it Spoke to Mick about the tune and some spannies 😎 Boxed up the top end and sent it to Mick Started preparing the front m/cylinder for paint and rebuild
Got annoyed at having (in essence) 3 YPVS engines and struggling to build one good motor out of the pile of mechanical carnage. All because of bad storage or lazy previous engineer working on it.
We push on undeterred

Yeaterday we set up the back end, new wavy disc and new sprocket. Ti bolts for both sides to make it look nice. A previous keeper painted the wheel bearing dust cover to match the tank - I’m mean, really? New dust covers! Fitted the stupidly expensive center stand and the spring is too weak so need to buy that but it’s got a center stand only to remember a metmachex arm doesn’t work too well with bikes that have the center stand - pain! Spending todays afternoon on it…

Fitted the LED headlight bulb that tlmark recommended 👍 and apart from trying to get it to fit in the recess properly, it was a breeze. Also fitted 2 to the Fazer Thou and they dropped in place without a hitch. So the problem most likely with the LC bulb holder! IMG20220604180718

Spent a bit of time with my TDR this weekend. Replaced the nose fairing and windscreen, and did a spring carb cleaning. I rode it about a month ago for our annual "Alley Sweeper" ride, and boy it (barely) ran like shit. I pulled the carbs off and ran eveything thru the ultrasonic, cleaned the air filter foam, etc. I did a Zeel CDI last year, and leaned the jetting a bit at the same time, and HOLY SHIT ... I forgot how hard this thing rips. Fork seals are next on the list, although a modern fork upgrade would be better.
