looks like I deleated my first post by mistake, so have pasted it again. Well time has come to start the rebuild thread, ride was cancled today so rather than gardening I started on the rebuild. Tapered head bearing races fitted first. Mudguard clean and polished. as is the number plate holder/tool tray. all being fitted with Stainless fastners for the moment while the hunt for origonal ones goes on. All wrapped up and heading back to the saftey of the spare room. Thats about as far as I can go till zinc plating and new shock arrives. Be a Hagon Norbs, needed to pay by card so couldnt get it through you, sorry! little bit more put on today, slow but steady. New arrival today. Pick up zinc plating in the morning, so next pics will be a rolling frame.

got a few bits done tonight as I got a surprise night off and the clutch whent on my taxi. Sorted out the origonal switch gear, cleaned all the inside electrics and found a wire off on the indicators than just needs soldering. took all the latched terminals out one at a time, cleaned with switch cleaner and wire wool. came out like this. cleaned up and shiney. then replaced in the block. All back together and waiting for a decal kit, saving of £162 over buying new. Head light bowl was looking a bit sorry, wire wooland some black trim wax and it looks miles better, saves about £38 on a new one.

if you mean directly under the water tank grommet, its the flash catching where the frame tube bends.

todays progress. sorted my sand blaster out as it packed up a while back when it got blocked, could never to get it to work aftre and was going to buy another one. Turns out I lost a part inside but it came with a spare. Its about £17 from Machine Mart. sorted out a smaller tub for the sand as it kept getting blocked, feeds alot better like this. horns and brackets first. first one now looks alot cleaned and should look now after a respray. brackets. origonal rear light has rusted through, may need replacing, will see after is sprayed. these will be dropped in for Yellow passivation. CDI as it came off the bike. sand blasted it, the a bit of gloss PJ1. Had a crappy blue insulated bullet, now put a new one on. cleaned and sprayed the tie bars. cleaned up the heads of the bolts and other parts that needed replating. now should come out nice.

Really nice work Bryan Does the sandblaster run off a compressor?

yes a little 1.5hp one, had trouble with using the sand out of the bag as it kept getting blocked, but the small tub has made it alot easyer for sand to feed at a constant supply. Got the other horn blasted today, just needs spraying now. How they look, its an alloy cover, this and the bracket will go on my hybrid and the green passivated bracket and plastic cover off it will go on this bike for origonalty.

Andy - yeah they do, just hook one hose to the compressor and the other hose to the sand. Hey bryan, looks pretty good to me, the CDI turned out great. And yeah these sandblasters can clog together inside, (obviously not clogged so badly that they don't even let out air, but enough to disturb the sand feeding) I think it mostly happens because of condensation in the compressor which makes the sand inside the blasting gun turn to some sort of cloggy mud. You'll know when they are clogged as they stop feeding the sand properly. I noticed your gun seems to be quite a bugger to clean though, the one I'm using can be taken apart in front of the trigger lever so you can clean it up inside, but it looks like yours can't be taken apart like that? Anyway, maybe you know this already but there is a trick to sandblasting which is very useful - split the part up in many small sections! (no not literally split them up lol) When I sandblast something, I try to sandblast small square shaped sections next to each other, rather then blasting all over the place in a random pattern. It's much easier when you can clearly see where you have already blasted. See this video as an example - 0:50 into the vid, see the section thing he did there, same thing at 1:36

rather than spend £44 on new engins case plastics, used ones I already have will go on and unlike new ones, will match the black engine cases. pleased with the result on the oil pump cover. and the star disk going to need a better Yamaha disk though.

thats the plan Norbs, only rearly engine rebuild and paint left to do, and may put body work off his other LC on so he can use it as soon as possible, as we need a good side pannels and good tank as it was rusted throgh. got the other horn to blast and paint, seat lock and latch to sort out, spray rear light and mastercylinder and thats the rolling bike done. Just checked the DVLA, and its been off the road for 13 years and 2 months.

rear light painted, how it looked should have got holes welded but not spending loads of time on a rear light thats being swapped for the one on his other LC. cant see them when its fitted, I filed all the sides flat so it look nice though as it was very pitted. these are also going to be swapped as the helmet lock is snapped off, lock will be done when its not raining as sand clumps up. horns finnished but quite pitted from rust.

That's it, and yes you could reuse the media. My next move is to build a cabinet too. It's a pain sweeping all the sand up off my drive, my bloody kids wanted paying for doing it last week.

You need to turn the air pressure down if using sand on ally, or use bead as it won't be too aggressive. Machine Mart do that too, but may be cheaper places to get it.

Seems this was not my fault after all, air trapped in the head, as they hang them with the bolt head down and no plating can get to it, rack should be shaken to let bubbles out. Third time lucky! Sorted out the broken pin that the seat latch on the right side piviots on. Drilled a shallow hole to seat the screew. made this from a stainless machine screw. now has a piviot which the tin cover will hold in place, not perfect but will do for the other bike.
