Hi, Got my silverware through for winning the Inaugural Classic TT Virtual Show And Shine comp, sponsored by Bennetts. I have put a pic of it, where my avatar was. To have Brian Reid and Milky Quayle comment on my LC was something special. I have been to plenty bike shows, but have never entered any bike show before, online or otherwise, so I was delighted. Hi, As Shaun says, under is how it left the factory. With some bars you have limited room, so the clox have to go on the top of the yoke. My clox are on the top , as I have ace bars fitted, and there is not too much room. Steven.

Took it for its last MOT yesterday, now that its 40 years old. All good. After speaking with Footman James and the MOT inspector, I think I will go down the voluntery MOT route next year. The weather forecast was not favourable yesterday, and I was prepared to get soaked. I got to the MOT station in the dry, and on leaving, I was again prepared to get soaked on the way home. I could see the rain clouds in the distance, but it stayed dry. Iv not done lots of miles on my LC this year, but I thouroughly enjoyed whizzing about on it yesterday. I reported when I left the house, that I would be home at approx 16:00.... I came home at 18:00, only because I was sure I was going to go onto reserve. I got a bollocking for being late, she was just worried, bless her. Im 53 years old and LC,s are still getting me into trouble ! Steven. www.lcclub.co.uk/product/rd-lc-40th-anniversary-tee/

Hi, I stripped, cleaned, inspected and re-fitted my front brake callipers yesterday on my 4L0, prior to going for an MOT soon. Thats the first I have had them off the bike since I restored it in 2013, they came to bits easily, and none of the pins or pistons were siezed. I have just spent half an hour looking for the correct caliper mounting bolt torque ! Checked the Haynes manual, and the little owners manual, but cant find the definative answer. In this old post, someone says its called a "swing bolt" in the manual... is that the Yamaha manual ? (which I dont have) This post recons 35 nm or 25 ft/lb ..... another generic setting for an M10 bolt is 30 nm or 22ft/lb. Could someone please give me the deffinative answer, and let me know what manual it is in ? Thanks in advance, Steven.

Hi, I have just re-newed my insuarnce for my LC with Footman James today. I asked on the phone while speaking with them about the MOT exemption ,now my LC is 40 years old. She said, if the law doesnt require you to have an MOT, then neither does Footman James, but, if there is a claim and it is found that the vehicle was not roadworthy then, it will affect the claim. She said lots of their customers do the voluntery MOT thing, and that it is your responsability to keep it roadworthy. Steven.

On the other end of the scale there's lathes like this one. That’s just a heavy lathe, when i was an apprentice we used to machine the bushes and keyways in tailshafts from navy and RFA ships the lathe had a seven foot diameter chuck ! Did you fit the rudder to the Gold ? ...a copy and paste..... On 1 December 1990, Gold Rover lost her rudder in severe weather in the South Atlantic and sent out a distress call. Some of her crew were airlifted off by a RAF Sea King of No. 78 Sqn and she managed to get to anchor seventeen miles east of Lively island to ride out the storm before she was towed by the tug Oil Mariner to Montevideo for repairs. The crew of the Sea King rescue helicopter, Captained by Flt Lt David Kerr-Sheppard, received various awards for outstanding flying skill in such difficult weather conditions. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RFA_Gold_Rover_(A271)

Hi Jason, PM sent. Thanks very much, That carb fits the manifold stub on my engines, but I had trouble sourcing parts for it, even going as far as speaking to people in New Zealand about it ! I have one knackered barrel, I might just build that up on cases and use it as an ornament, fitted with the Mills Carb. Im sure if we were in the desert, we could get that Mills Carb working again, as these old Villiers engines run on any old carb, or new ! I made a small brass stand for it in the mean time, and it was sitting below my telly there when i went to check the needle. Thanks again, Steven.

I was milling in my S7. Can't say I was happy with the results, hence the dedicated mill. Just not rigid enough bolting a vice to the cross-slide. Always use collets, they are cheap enough and a much better solution than chucking a milling cutter. My S7 is on the dedicated industrial stand, on riser blocks, so I shimmed one corner to make it machine true. Surprising how such a heavy casting can twist. Steven, I have found a carb needle in a box of bits that I don't recognise. Did you get one with that ancient carb I sent you? If it's not from that carb I have no idea where it's from. ..Yes, it deffo shows up any wear you have anywhere, when you mill like that. I was getting on ok milling ali/brass with it, squaring off the ends of bits of flat bar and things like that. I have just checked that Mills Carb, it has the brass slide, but not the needle. cheers, Steven.

Hi, I have a Myford ML7 of 1950 Vintage. (do other Myford owners know you can date them from their serial numbers ?) You can make your own turning tools for various materials, plenty youtube videos about it. High Speed Steel, Silver Steel etc stock is available on ebay etc for making turning tools. Once you get your lathe set up, face off and centre a piece of bar a good few inches long, hold it between your chuck and tail stock, take a few cuts and mic the bar over its length. You may well find the bar is tappered ? It depends what your making or doing with your lathe as to wheather that will matter or not. You can also put a clock gauge ( but now you have a lathe, youll be calling it a DTI :-) ) on the chuck and on a piece of round bar in the chuck, to see how true things are running there too. You can turn your lathe into a milling machine with a vertical slide, idealy you should hold an end mill in a collet, but for home/hobby use its acceptable to hold it in the chuck.
