Hi,
So after much procrastination and lurking on this forum, my Swedish 250LC is has been stripped down, frame and other bits powder coated and a large order (no doubt the first of many) has arrived safely from Norbo.
The big question is, to what extent do I rebuild the engine? It had 30k kilometres on it and has had one rebore and, to my untrained ear, seemed to run fine when I got the bike.
Alternatives are: top end refresh with new pistons etc. or do I go the whole hog (first time for me) and split the cases and do the lot? And what about the crank? Can you tell if that needs a rebuild or is it a case of you pay your money (or not) and take your chances?
Finally, if I do take the plunge, what the collected wisdom on seals, gaskets and bearings? Pattern or Yam and where is the best place to get them?
Thanks in advance!

Very nice but I agree with those who said they can think of better ways to spend that sort of cash.

I'm impressed. Not sure I'll have the guts to tackle splitting the cases myself. May have to farm out the engine rebuild...

If you need to ask, does it really matter? Just build the bike you want to build! The problem is that changes with alarming regularity! One day I favour keeping it original and the next I am googling 470cc banshee conversions.

Blimey! Does that even qualify as a bike still?

Not sure. 7-10 years would be my guess.

Just checked and they do match. Looks like I should try to stay original. Unless of course the improvements in performance and handling to be had from tasteful modifications are just to great to pass up...
Would be great to hear arguments for and against!

Ok, so a very stupid question this one but just how do I know if my 250lc has matching numbers or not? I only paid £500 for it in Sweden so am not really too bothered either way but, if they do match, I may keep things original when I restore it whereas if they don't, I'll be more inclined to go the hybrid route.
Cheers!

Did your conversion come together? Am just starting a 250 restoration and would love to know.

Whilst I expect it'll take me a while to get around to finishing both projects, I'm hoping it won't take quite that long!

Thanks. I tried some in my sons pw50 and it promptly refused to run so actually putting it in any form of engine is out I think. The local recycling centre oil disposal may be the way forward!

Does anyone know how best to get rid of it? Both the LC and another project have tanks full of the stuff. I don't want to dump into the drain on the street and using it to light bonfires doesn't really appeal either as I quite like having eyebrows and the little hair that remains on my head...

I've thought about it for me RS250 but never got around to it so would also be interested in any feedback.

I have done the NOVA thing with HMRC. Once I have an MOT I'll get it registered.

Well done Shaun. I am now feeling fully inspired to get cracking! Would you mind listing the suppliers to whom you outsourced the bits you didn't do yourself?

That's my namesake! Many thanks for all the good wishes. Pics of the project will follow in the rebuilds section when I figure out how to upload them!

Hi all,
I have recently joined the LC "club" by buying an 250lc from an old boy in Sweden for 500 quid.
It is all there and original but I plan to restore it, although I haven't yet decided whether to stay original or upgrade bits like brakes and suspension.
Links to threads of newbie restoration success would be appreciated!
Cheers!
