Few more bits done today. Chris - Sidney81, very kindly sent me a Pv caliper as mine had a broken bleed nipple, and was looking worst for wear. I stripped the one Chris sent after popping the pistons out. I will take the caliper and also the left side case to Jamie this week for vapour blasting and Cerakoting; 20230115_194655 by dusty miller, on Flickr 20230115_194716 by dusty miller, on Flickr I cleaned all the crud off the inside of the casing, and washed the clutch actuator in petrol whilst I was at it; 20230115_113111 by dusty miller, on Flickr Both footrests have been scrubbed and repainted; 20230115_194848 by dusty miller, on Flickr Switchgear wiring connected up behind the headstock, and coil cover fitted; 20230115_194810 by dusty miller, on Flickr Front master cylinder fitted, along with new grips; 20230115_194735 by dusty miller, on Flickr Rear master cylinder fitted on it's bracket. I need to work out where to fix a new extension on the back of the brake lever to actuate the pushrod - a lot easier to sort without the swingarm fitted !; 20230115_194759 by dusty miller, on Flickr Not many jobs left now. Clocks need a refurb, Wheels are the biggest job - paint and polish, bearings and tyres. I plan on Blue spot calipers with NK adapter brackets, hence the Gsxr style master cylinder to cope. Dusty

Not much to report lately. I'm really waiting on the swingarm from Metmachex now. Once I fit that I can fit the shock and oil tank, get the Lc front wheel in temporarily, and a paddock stand at the back will get it off the floor, and could then fit the engine to clear the bench. Jamie did a couple of parts for me in Graphite black Cerakote; 20230119_161554 by dusty miller, on Flickr He currently has my left side engine case and the Pv caliper to do in the same finish. The next job to tackle is the instruments. These are from the original Swiss bike, so the speedo reads KMH. Initially I thought about fitting a new MPH face, but wanted to make sure the speedo measured in miles, not Km's. At Kempton late last year, I picked up what looks like an Aircooled Xs or Xj speedo for a fiver - the plan was to rob the small gear out of it and swap into the Lc speedo so it measured in miles; 20230129_102733 by dusty miller, on Flickr I then remembered I had the clock set sat in a box from The Fzrd, so dug that out for a better look; 20230129_102803 by dusty miller, on Flickr Looks like an Lc speedo apart from the Kmh inner decals. Plan now is to use that speedo in one of Alan's speedo cases - (the housing on the mph speedo doesn't have the 2 mounting tabs for the Lc binnacle), and not touch the KMH speedo, saving me some hassle. I dont mind the inner KMH decals - this isn't an original correct build anyway; 20230129_102916 by dusty miller, on Flickr 20230129_102826 by dusty miller, on Flickr Dusty

Will that trip knob fit okay Dusty? Looks fatter than an LC one. If so then I'd certainly use it and perhaps mod the LC one at a later date.

Your first pic of the 140mph clock, looks like it may be more like the AC RD type or early XS type, which if I'm correct won't fit the LC housing. You can tell if the cable connector comes out at a much steeper angle than the LC clock. If so, this will also have non-compatible internal gears, as shorter than the LC type.
The 2nd clock though looks like maybe a later XS or maybe SR500 clock and if correct, the internal mechanism will fit into an AK housing. You can fit an LC trip knob to this also.
If you need any help converting the clocks, I'm happy to help, done quiet a few now.

Hi Shaun The second speedo could well be something like an Sr. I bought the aircooled one cheap as I was gonna gamble on the small internal gear, but if the Sr one works in one of Al's cases, I will just do that. I've had the vernier on the Sr and the Lc fittings on the back, and they all match, plus the trip knob is in the same place, so hopefully it will all work out. If not, I will get an MPH face from Simon and fit that. Still gonna strip the clocks for a refurb, but it will be nice if I dont have to strip the Lc speedo unnecessarily Regards Dusty

Swingarm fitted tonight; 20230204_212942 by dusty miller, on Flickr 20230204_213003 by dusty miller, on Flickr The new YSS shock went in too. Picked up the powdercoated brake lever from Jamie yesterday; 20230204_215533 by dusty miller, on Flickr Spaced the footrests correctly now so everything clears the wider swingarm. Oil tank back on too. Hope to get it off the floor next, get some wheels in it then fit the engine Dusty

It may be worth modifying the clutch actuator arm while it is off. About 8 to 10mm longer works well. Makes the clutch easier to pull.

Hi Rob, It's a standard Lc engine and clutch set up. Seemed a nice clutch action on the 250 engine that was in it originally. I've fitted new springs but they are standard Yamaha, so I'm hoping it's all good. The cable off the 250 is ok, but I may fit a new Yam one anyway. Last one I bought a couple of years back was about 23 quid. They are nearly £37 now ! Dusty

Got this off the floor today; 20230211_183354 by dusty miller, on Flickr Fitted the original Lc wheel back in it to help stabilise it on the timber stand. Ypvs wheels are with Jamie for gloss black powdercoat. I was planning on keeping the rims and spoke edges in alloy, but have now decided to go for powder all over. Then it will be new bearings and tyres. He is alos gonna run the vapour blaster over the discs to perk them up a bit. No reason why the engine cant go in next, which will free up some bench space Dusty

Cheers The bolts take a few seconds each on the polishing wheel. They come up shiny really quickly. There is a lot of black on this bike so I'm trying to "lift" it a bit with minor bling ! Dusty

Not had much time in the garage recently, but I have been collecting parts to finish the build. Selling off some spares meant I could fund the bits that I need. The wheel bearings are Koyo - I could have bought cheaper "Challenge" or "Dunlop", but I dont like cheap bearings, so Koyo's were ordered for front and rear, plus the sprocket hub; 20230301_204632 by dusty miller, on Flickr The front wheel was missing the speedo drive, washer and oil seal, but I managed to find all 3 on ebay for the same price as just the seal from Fowlers; 20230306_202323 by dusty miller, on Flickr The rear caliper Chris kindly gave me has been powdercoated by Jamie. We were going with Cerakote originally, but the gloss version isn't actually that glossy, so we went with powder to match the caliper carrier. I bought new seals and pistons, and have now rebuilt it; 20230306_192914 by dusty miller, on Flickr A pair of Avon Roadrider 2's are ordered, and being fitted on Saturday. Jamie vapour blasted my standard Pv brake discs which has cleaned them up nicely, so I should have a rolling chassis fairly soon. Another area to sort was front brakes. I was planning on some NK adapter plates and either Blue or Silver/Gold spots. I had this set up on my first hybrid build , and was all set to go with that again, but I saw some alternatives on ebay, won them, and they arrived today; 20230308_143220 by dusty miller, on Flickr These Harrisons are ready to bolt straight on. They may need a shim as they are Lc calipers going on Lc2 forks, but that's simple enough. I still need to strip and rebuild my clock set, and get the seat recovered, but apart from that it's nearly there Dusty
