£1500 rebuild but rusty head bolts? ?? I was biting my tongue If I'd paid 1500 for a rebuild I'd have expected a lick of paint Steve

See it has reed spacers, were they sealed both sides with gaskets ?
Don't run it anymore and you will have to strip top end at least
Get a Haynes manual if you haven't got one and ask loads of questions on here as this forum will talk you through it

Looks like a complete strip and rebuild, no offence but it doesn’t look like a £1500 rebuild.

I would certainly try re-torque the head 1st and start it again, if still sounds the same then head off to look inside, don't rev it though unless it sounds OK, its a straw worth clutching to.

For it to seize but then to start straight away makes me worry it's debris that have jammed it
Previously being dyno'd, running a bit noisey then failing so early into being opened up sound like a componant failure to me

I did think the same about the head bolts, the corners of the bolts are shiny though so may have seen a socket not that long ago.

That's a very generous offer, thanks but I have a Manuel, I am in Sandy Bedfordshire, the LC family seems to be more of a northan thing, not heard of any other southerners like me with LC s, they must exist I suppose. Have just been searching around on line to see where I might get my barrels re bored, will be asking for recommendations, don't mind coming north to get them done right if I have to.

Yep, send them to me and I will post them up if you cant. Pjme in Wolverhampton are excellent for rebores, crank rebuilds etc. As the lads say, start with the top end strip and you might get clues as to what's gone wrong, and as importantly, why. A well built engine with the "right" parts should take more abuse than what you've given it, and if it's been on Dave's dyno and had his input, you'll know it's fuelling correctly. I'd take a punt on poor quality parts used or badly fitted, but only one way to find out Dusty

Also those clear oil lines are known to have poorer clamping at the spigots, could be another one to look at.

Will need to get the top end off and get some pics of the pistons. The scuffs will give you a clue as to what went on.
Did you have receipts for the work? Be worth seeing what was actually done beforehand?

Smoking heavily on start up is not necessary a sign the oil pump is working properly. What was the smoke like when up to running temperature?

Top off Toby time, something very defo wrong. I think it will be obvious what’s going on as soon as it’s apart. Sounds very little endy to me, maybe stretched rod eye.
If it’s any consolation, you are lucky that it’s still basically running. An aggressive lock up can lunch an engine big time.

I'm with you Pete, thought it sounded like a little end hence the debris concern
Did billbot not gave similar on a fresh engine and a cheap little end
Or a nice Taiwan piston losing a skirt
Time will tell

Think I’d be contacting the person I’d bought it off if it’s shat itself the first time it’s been ridden............

Think I’d be contacting the person I’d bought it off if it’s shat itself the first time it’s been ridden............ Their response will be buyer beware, plus you’ve had it for X amount of times and it was running ok when it was dyno’ed. Got zero chance of come back this is why you need evidence of who built it? With what eg genuine yam seals? Then your visual and auditory senses used bolts etc oh and receipts Very few I’d trust to build my motor the half a dozen I would are on here 2, are professional builders one who set my bike up and 4 are amateurs but seeing their builds I’d trust them implicitly oh and they are long term members/owners.
