Just read threw the whole thread..you've done a cracking job on her..congrats ..how easy is it to strip the engine and split the cases as you did..is there any thing to look out for and what special tools do you need? Did you replace all the seals and bearings.. Like yourself I am a novice when it comes to the engine and carbs and stuff like that.. but I am quite handy with the spanners

I did most things myself, but I had the engine stripped and rebuilt by muttsnuts. He's a top knowledgeable bloke and really helpful. All the seals were changed, with gen yam ones, but all my bearings were ok. I had a problem with the crank, which needed splitting and a new thrust washer, and re-balancing/centralising, but the bearings were fine. The carbs I had a lot of forum encouragement with, and eventually succumbed to stripping, ultrasonically cleaning and re-assembling them. all seemed great, but....see my next post! Well it's probably a month or so since I last posted. At that time, I was happy to have rebuilt my beautiful machine, and then to get it registered. Job done. So I thought! The problem was it wouldn't really rev freely under load. It always started 1st kick, and revved reasonably freely with no load, but as soon as I got on it and ran it under load it didn't want to know after 4000 rpm. So the last month has been experimentation and various changes. I've tried at least 3 main jet sizes with different needle settings. 3 different exhausts. Standard and expansions. Different cdi's x 2. New plugs and ht leads Different ht coil. Different regulators x 2. Air filter in and out. Snorkle removed and not. Replacement reed valves. Different stator. The list goes on. All items and settings changed one at at time and bike re-run. Some minor improvements and losses with each, nothing to write home about.
After all this, with no real result, Mr LC (muttsnutts) came up with idea of checking the 'air correction circuit'. What's that Dave? Well carbs were off (again!!) and he start's drilling (well milling actually) my brass balls. Out they come, and this exposes the air correction circuit which is a very small passageway underneath. Some small wire, gt85 and 100psi air soon blast these clear and a new ball goes in. Both carbs.
Back on the bike. Here we go again, kick her off.
Fckin hell Dave. It suddenly revs cleanly through the range, and pulls like a 2 stroke on crack cocaine, and i struggle to keep the front end on the tarmac. What a result.
So finally I have a bike. What a journey. It doesn't end with the physical rebuild.
Dave (muttsnuts) your a star, I said I'd kiss you but when you puckered up I had second thoughts, but I couldn't have done it without you. I owe you a beer or 10.
Bring on the summer.
I hope this inspires other virgins. Good luck fellas. Or ladies. x

Took it for its first ride out tonight and ended up at the Barton Bike Night. Fantastic ride, grinned all the way and back. Can't work out if its the bike, or the fact I struggled through and completed the rebuild. Probably a bit of both. Saw a few other LC's at Barton too, a fantastic pair of 350 white red LC's amongst others.

Just read this whole thread. You have done an absolutely amazing job. You have inspired me (as a complete novice) to undertake my own restoration.... although i may give the latex gloves a miss

Going back to your original pictures, I love to see a lc in red I think it the best colour for them, I wish it would of been a UK colour originally. I know they were available but wasn't it german only?

I know they were available but wasn't it german only? I'm not sure, this bike was a Swedish import, but I don't think it was the original colour. From memory the original log book translated to 'multi-colours' so didn't give too much away! The fella I bought it from thought it may have been a marsbar originally. I'm a traditionalist, and as my 350LC is now wite-blue 2-stripe, i wanted its little sister to be original white-red 2 stripe.

Fantastic job Shaun, I have just started rebuilding my YPVS, and I'm at that crapy stage of cleaning everything, your thread gave me teh incentive tio have another crack at cleaning up teh parts tomorrow. Oh and it reminded me to get some more latex gloves as I am running low

Just read through this thread, very inspiring Shaun, I am only a very basic mechanic, but I don't mind having a go at most things, and have just managed to fit a new oil pump succesfully, but like you did I have carb problems at the moment, and am a bit hesitant in pulling them apart but your post has given me a bit of a kick up the backside to give it a go Cheers Steve
