Did you get grief for putting bike parts in the oven? Being single has its advantages!

Cleaned the loom and the cables .... and stripped the switchgear for cleaning and painting... I've painted them now, just ordered some new switchgear decals and will give them a lacquer. More pictures to follow. At same time I stripped down the front brake, for cleaning and painting. Ordered new seals and piston for that. Brakes are important. Apparently! Not far away from starting putting the bike together. Engine is ready now, just need to pick it up. Better get my ass into gear.

Well here we go. the good bit. I started the actual rebuild this weekend. Everything I do from here-in will slowly bring the bike to life again. The frame is protected for the inevitable... Here we go then, the first job and picture is a bit symbolic, reapplying the VIN plate.... A quick drill out of the 2 holes that have filled with powder paint, a couple of pop rivets, and that's it, I've started! The stamped VIN on the frame is still readable, but I like the idea of having a VIN plate too, even though many of the UK bikes didn't have this. This motivated me to crack on.

The kitchen is always a good place to start I reckon... A load of balls to start with. 19 top and bottom. Strange number. Must mean something in Japan. These little buggas like to play hide and seek. Only found 37 after the strip down so had to scrounge one from Mutts. Soon the yokes are on. Quickly followed by the wiring loom, forks, airbox.... Then the shock and swing arm... The oil and coolant tanks Indicator, number plate mount, rear light and clocks next All in all a good days work Very rewarding.

saw your paintwork yesterday and doesnt look like it will be much longer. That's good news, its all coming together at the same time. Engine is ready, paintwork nearly done and a few more days on the build and should just about make some of the summer.
Oh I forgot, need to get in MOT'd, taxed, insured and registered with DVLA. that could hold things up a bit.
You pleased with your paintwork?

Yes well happy with the paintwork - how come your getting so many done ? Because I'm greedy! Lol. You not doing so bad yourself though! This 250 project is most likely going to have a white-red standard 2 stripe set, which Mark should be on with. I have another 250 project in the pipeline, but can't decide if I will keep it or move it on. I've fallen in love with the current project bike and can't bring myself to consider selling it on, so it will be a keeper. I don't have the same emotional attachment to the other 250 I have. I asked Mark to paint that set up white-blue 2 stripe, so maybe when I fit it it will kickstart a second build for me. Its a bit addictive. The 3rd tank he is doing is the original white-red one off my 350 which I will keep as a spare as I prefer to ride that white-blue!

If they are as good as Muzz's then I will be well happy. Sent you a PM about collection and payment. Glad you weren't too busy to fit me in, but glad you doing a few LC's, you came well recommended. See you soon! Shaun

LOL, I thought the padding around the new frame coating was to keep you from scatching the frame when getting another bottle of the wine!!!
Better stay off that or nothing will get done. I haven't had much bike fixing time this last weekend, had to go down t' big smoke for family 25th wedding party. But at least there was a free bar! If you have all the ready to fit parts at hand its suprising how it comes together.
Keep it going.

I had to move the bike into the kitchen as it was getting in the way of my access to the wine. I've got a nice one ready to celebrate the completion. Should be a good year by then! Lol. Muttsnuts has rebuilt my engine for me. The thrust washer on the crank was actually there, it had worn razor thin and to about half its normal diameter. Caught it just in time. That 50pence washer could have caused a lot of damage. A few pictures of the engine rebuild.... Got a busy week or so ahead on other things, but hoping to put some time aside over Easter to get the engine in and progress the bike a bit further. Exciting times!

Had a busy weekend so didn't get a chance to do any work on the bike, but I did get to pick up the engine .... ... and also collected the newly painted tank set...... both look great and provides the motivation to crack on with it, so hoping to set some time aside over Easter to see if I can at least complete the build. I even bought some 2-stroke just in case! And yes, you can see I finally made up my mind on the colour scheme, its going to be a 2-striper white-red. I better update my avatar. I'm an excited kid again.

Had an hour or so spare last night so thought i'd have a go at re-assembling the switchgear painting, new decals and a few coats of lacquer. Lots of tricky little bits..... I'm glad I took lots of step by step pics as i stripped them. Eventually got them together.. Took longer than I thought but got there in the end, whether they still work, only time will tell. another job ticked off.

Tonight was another milestone - a rolling chassis. Its starting to look a little bit like a bike now. Also moved the build into the lounge for the final push. The bikes older brother looks on anxiously... A busy Easter I reckon.

Had a great day on the rebuild today. Months of prep work seems to come together quite quick in the end. Amazingly all the electrics worked, once i got the indicators wired correctly. I was amazed by that, especially after stripping it all back, including the switchgear. this was one of my biggest fears. Tomorrow my mate will give me a lift with the engine. In meantime I finished off cleaning up the tool set. Anyone know if this is a full set?
