Andy, I think you need to loose the sharp corners at either side, round them off and it'll look even better IMO, seat looks good too.

Andy, I think you need to loose the sharp corners at either side, round them off and it'll look even better IMO, seat looks good too. i have been struggling to get it to look right, but ill have it laser cut as it is,and i can trim the corners round later if it looks too awkward, but i know where you are coming from. hopefully monday night ill get some pics up of the finished thing.

Well after the stafford bike show and a few conversations with graphics folk. Im gonna try my own spray job. I have tried a little tester on the side of my tank, i can see lots of errors but i have learnt a lot Please ignore the layout and the colour. Im still going for the kenny roberts yellow. I now know some graphics curl up when you laquer over them......so ill be in touch with norbo for some good stuff. And i know to buy a slightly better masking strip when spraying the black. I think i stand a fighting chance if i take my time...its all in the prep.

Well I bought some paint this weekend and started on the long process of painting.. Stage one can be seen from past posts, grey multi substrate primer. Followed by a white base coat and then a yamaha pearlescent white top coat. Although it dosnt translate well in photos. This stuff really does look stunning in bright daylight....then a clear laquer...... Once this dries after a week I can key it back ready for decals and masking for the yellow...........seems a lot of effort for the white bits on a kenny roberts speed block design. But I think it will be well worth the effort , should be able to see lots of layers through the laquer.......more progress to follow

So now the laquer is dry, its keyed back and masked for the basecoat yellow, for the anoraks among you ( and im one also) I chose RAL 1028 reference yellow .once masked and coated. Let dry off a half hour and peel the masking film. The sharp edge can ne feathered down later as this join line will be under a black pinstripe of the kenny roberts speedblock design........now to be patient and wait for this to fully harden and let the solvents out. Only then can I flatten it off and flash over with laquer.then decals (cutting my own) then more laquer....................see you next year! Pics following tonight when photobucket behaves.!
