Did my first trackday of the year yesterday, an evening session at Brands 'indy' on the FZ. Great fun and great weather. Only two groups so pretty hectic and knackering, especially in the heat! Bumped into this old guy (actually he's younger than me!) wondering around, what a lovely guy! He left mumbling something or other about road racing. Mouse

Another trackday, well evening done. Bike going really well! The adjustable 'dog bones' have really helped to get her to turn. But, boy does she drink oil!!

Looking good sir 👌
My exup was fast as feck but liked to drink the oil as well
A matter has one just now and although not too bad it does use a little oil
Weirdly his FZR750 doesn't use a drop
It's just normal on the 1000's

A mate had an Exup that used more oil than my RD500!

Mine is a pre EXUP engine and almost uses as much engine oil as my LC's do 2-stroke oil! May have to have a re-fresh over the winter. Mouse

A mate had an Exup that used more oil than my RD500! yep! Both my EXUP and YZF750 genuinely used more oil than my LC. BTT, the FZ looks cracking, great photos bud.

Both my Fazer 1000's and my 06 R1 were fine as well
I was told not to run them in too gently to avoid it though and gratefully obliged 😁

Cheers chaps!
After one track eve, about 70-80 miles, i topped up with about 250ml of oil! I don't think the later bikes, R1, Fazers etc are known for their oil consumption, think it's just the earlier engines

Is it valve stem oil seals, rings (type or piston clearance etc.). Is there visible smoke? If oil is being burnt it would surely leave deposits eventually but it looks like you are going quick enough to burn off any deposits before they can start to build up 👍

I don't know where the oil is getting by, may investigate over winter. I just think it is 'one of those things', she runs really well and i'm not too worried. Somebody once told me, 100 miles on circuit is equivalent of 100 miles on the road, which kind of tally's up with the oil consumption! Mouse

I just wondered what Yamaha changed. Don't they sometimes go for oil control rings that cause less frictional losses at the expense of a bit of oil getting past? It's worth the oil for a bit more power on a race bike. They probably changed them after feed back. Just my guess.

Two more trackdays done on the FZ, Donnington in August, my first time there, an evening trackday. What a fantastic circuit, recently resurfaced and so smooooooth. It really is a superb circuit and so much wider that you realise, one corner flows into the next and so on, so if you get one wrong... The only part i was not so keen on was the Melbourne loop and the off-camber left onto the start finish straight, but it was a great eve and only spoilt by the traffic going home and to be honest, getting there too, M1! Donnington signaled the end of my rear tyre, three track eves, less than 200 miles
New tyre purchased, £185!! and off to Brands again for a full day on track. I'd been praying for a warm dry day and boy was it, 30 plus degrees!! Of the six sessions i only did five, was completely exhausted, too old! Still it was fantastic, had a great dice with a guy on an R6, similar power to my FZ but a lot younger!
I'd love to get one of two more trackdays in this year but we'll have to see. The FZ has been fantastic and all the little tweeks have really helped especially have the adjustable dog-bones which have really helped her to turn. Maybe some more fettling over winter! Mouse

I wont be racing. More like chief tea maker and brolly dolly Hi Dusty that's really a good idea to have someone to help. Sometimes I will do a track day as Billy no mates. I struggle a little bit with small things like removing the top of your race suit off or just taking your bike off the paddock stand and directly mounting the bike. It feels like a balancing act. No side stand allowed as their too heavy.

Great write up and great photos I've only ridden Donnington once. It was with the Ron Haslam Race School, me and the lad. It's so wide compared to Cadwell it's more like a car park. We were on the CBR600RR's and the first few laps were so slow I never used the brakes but we got a lot quicker. I felt like I knew the track after watching so much racing from there over the years. Ron himself went past us down Craner Curves on a Blade with a passenger on the back and the footpeg on the deck. High-light of the day!
