I thought I should update you all with my latest project This will probably be a two stage project in that I will not touch the motor just yet as it is very strong and has had a rebuild 2k ago, instead just get it rolling first, however I have stripped and serviced the carbs and so that I was happy with the motor I have done a compression test and all is fine! I have fitted a Ducati 916 complete front end using a bespoke stem I'm also fitting an RGV banana rear end, I have strapped the bike down on stands and set the linkage at standard ride height with wooden blocks mocked some arm brackets out of wood so that I could shape them easy to fit Just need to get the brackets cut out of 15mm ally plate and get them welded. Fitted the jolly Moto's just to see they cleared the brackets OK

You have a made a better job of the wooden brackets than most special builders would for the proper ones. Wish i had half your patience and commitment. Keep us all posted. Gonna be one hell of a special when its done. Thanks mate Because I will be working under the bike with the brackets I wanted to make sure that I could get as near as poss with the mock up brackets, so I made the wooden brackets out of the same thickness wood as the finished item's will be. Will definitely keep you posted

Sweet mate . this a keeper then? Yes mate! I have been striving to have my ultimate goal and that was to own a big as poss 2 stroke thought I may have to go down the trinity kit route due to prices of big 5's but was fortunate for me to get my hands on this at the right time financially and price! My plans for this will be probably be forever evolving so it may never be done

looking good vin Thanks mate Thinking of paint colours now! Having standard red and white paintwork as it is all at the painters already, but wondering what colours to paint the frame, swinging arm and wheels I'm thinking satin black to make the gold disc's and calipers pop! and frame and arm to go with the black stripes in the paintwork The arm needs painting really as it is a bit battered and bruised I think I have made my mind up bu what do you think guy's?

I work for an Engineering firm so we tend to over engineer ;D ;D Me too mate - what business you into? We manufacture steam related products such as humidifiers for Hospitals, equipment for oil refineries and tire manufactures etc. I know it sounds iron age using steam but it is a very widely used and economical form of transferring energy and we are world leaders in it ;D We seem to do very well in financial times like this as we are not diverse to just one industry

vin my man youre bloddy jammy git lol rd 500 and still find stupidly cool things to make it even better , no point wishing you good luck on this project as all youre other bikes have been great.
one thing i would like to ask is about the ducati stem and yokes , i remember a while back reading on another forum about someone using a 916 front end on a mito 350 but had to modifly it due to it being diffrent form usual yokes and stems (if that majes sense lol) something to do with it being ecentric or something could you shed any light on this ?

Thanks tzrman1984 No difference regarding the stem or yokes mate, just that the stem is a screwed in type. I too have read somewhere regarding them being eccentric or something but guess that the Ducati must have some type of insert that goes into the frame at the headstock so that can be done? This is only a guess though

A little update! Fabricated a bracket for my hydraulic clutch conversion, I need to trim it down still a little with the milling machine at work but first need to connect hose and get it operating. fitted my clock decals, not a great photo as you can't see the silver tunning forks but you get the general idea. Some good news, my paintwork is ready so hope to have it delivered next week and also my ride height adjusters should be here from the states also next week I have also bought a UK registered frame so just need to trim some brackets off it and then get it powder coated ;D

Thanks mate I have a vice and a cheap pillar drill and some various power hand tools in my shed only too mate and did the bracket with them ;D I used the original side casing as a template to get the correct positioning of the bolt holes, gear shaft and clutch push rod and then spot drilled around the bracket and jigsawed the rest as it wasn't up to going through 12mm ally plate from scratch! The milling machine at work will be to get nice straight edges and maybe some other detail work
