They are a bit fiddly to get the tops off and I do tend to remove the tank
I can strip them in my sleep though !
When you see how tiny some of the holes are you can understand how easily they become blocked

Last night I upped the pilot jets from 45 to 50 and although the flat spot was the same I now have some colour in the plugs which was a concern ( I have some 48's too but will keep these 50's in for now)
I will now weaken the needles as I can't go the other way , anyway as it's on richest setting
Don't like to weaken the needles and will try clip #4, middle clip and clip #2 but no more to see if I can get a better transition
I have some needle shims too , to go half a clip to try

Put the N68 needles on middle clip and much better, so engine is asking for weaker there I had put 50 pilots in and plugs looked a good colour but with needles weaker the plugs look weaker ffs So can't do anything with needles, so do I go richer on the pilots

Marked up the throttle to show what openings things are happening at and at 1/2 throttle is a stutter that quickly goes by turning the throttle a bit more then the flat spot/Lull is at 3/4 throttle
Quite surprised at the flat spot showing at 3/4's
So on the Keihin chart that is needle taper and main jet

What jets do you have in now? Just cleaned my Carbs ready to fit this week hopefully, staying with 40 pilots but 155 mains (on slightly tuned YPVS engine, a long way from a start-up though)
Assume you've cleaned those tiny galleries in the main body one of mine was blocked solid.

Yes I have taken out the security screws that holds the main jet block etc in
Setup so far is
160 main jet 50 pilot 2 turns out air screw N68 needle in middle clip Ramair pod filters

Dropped the needles weaker again to 2nd clip and it has ran the best yet
Will cruise up and down to 6 grand now and will climb through into the powerband , but still nothing like a PV engine does
Keep saying it LOL but needs finishing off on the dyno

Just put smaller mains in
If dropping the needle is helping that's the way to go
Think you may be finding the downfall of the No pv's as it won't be any where as strong out of the power

It is quite torquey and not unrideable out the band and the kick around 7K is manic LOL
When I get to the dyno maybe mains can be adjusted
Front brakes feel great too with the radial master cylinder on the RGV 250 calipers, really progressive
Dash indicator right turn bulb has given up the ghost !

Done 127 road miles now
Went on a 32 mile round trip, so engine had the longest non stop run, no overheating or anything
Tacho has become jerky , so need to keep an eye on it

Another ride today and went to bike cafe Attracted a few people and I was in a reflective mood and just kept saying, looks nice but rides shite LOL
Sorted the indicator warning light, was a corroded connection and hopefully the jerky tacho with some grease

Another great read. Bike looks awesome dude. Hope you get her going as good as she looks soon. You must have the patience of a saint with all the issues you had along the way!
When I was young I swapped a scabby mt5 for a non running cb125j. Spent ages trying to get the thing running. One evening me and my mate tried bump starting it. It felt like we must have done 5 miles and I was getting angrier and angrier until I finally hit savage. Push her home, removed seat and tank, and beat the 5hit out of the bike with a sledge hammer!!! I think I invented the banana frame.
I have calmed down in my old age, but I think that's mostly down to the fact the sledgehammer seems so much heavier!😁😁😁

Just been out for a short ride and have to admit the JJH (middle clip)felt better, not sorted but an improvement over the N68 needles
Still a splutter and the flat spot but not as bad and 4 to 6 grand felt smoother
I feel if I can get it close to running half decent then time at the dyno will be shorter !
The Banshee boys use the JJH needles a lot and PWK 28 carbs too , so having a Banshee top end , do I need to follow them ?
Need the Banshee map Borut sent me loaded in now
Done over 200 miles now on the bores
160 main jet 50 pilot jet 2 turns out on airscrew JJH needles middle clip Ramair filters

Put 48 pilots back in for now Plugs are a nice chocolate brown now which only seemed to happen when I put in the JJH needles over the N68's
Getting a bit jaded with it now but just come back off holiday so got the blues LOL

Bugger. I know it's not been an easy task getting it set up, but you know it's going to be worth the hassle when it is sorted.....these set backs will just make it more satisfactory when it's finally running sweet.

Just putting the feelers out
I think I am going to sell the Athena top end as I don't want special pipes made etc to make it run better
It would suit probably more someone doing a 4mm crank build and got the resources to buy the pipes and set it up on the dyno etc

Barrels are off LOL
So I either stick a standard top end on or persevere with the Athena s

OK Gummy Bears :-) Now I think I'm going to fit my YPVS barrels to this bike but I'm going to miss that Athena kick at 6 grand So what can I do to the standard YPVS barrels to get the same thrill ? Lock the power valves LOL Do you set the powervalves to fling open 100% as soon as the engine comes on pipe ?

The Athena bike has had it's testicles removed LOL

As I had the Athena top end on without power valves. I have no wiring for one and no bracket for the servo motor etc
I have the LC loom and the Zeeltronic box with the built in PV controller though
I have the standard F2 CDI too and may remove the Zeel and have the stock F2 CDI and PV controller but going to need some wiring either way

Was it not Dusty that put up the diagram for the bracket to fold and make the pv bracket that goes under the coil
Personally I'd leave the Zeel on it and just wire up the servo motor
That way you aren't messing around trying to fit in the other boxes
