Vapour blasted the paint off the brake calipers Did not notice much grit while I was rinsing off after blasting the first caliper and then saw my glass beads needed replenishing. Added some fresh stuff and the second was done in half the time.
Now some masking and paint.

I have been clipping old wires out, and crimping new wires into the wiring loom which will go on the project bike. some of the wires from the old loom were black, (instead of nice bright copper), when the insulation was stripped back, so I re-learned a bit of chemistry, and gave them a bath...

Spent all day yesterday working on the 450, 10 years of abuse was taking its toll, Back wheel was cracked and front bent, so new wheels, tyres, HD tubes, brake pads, chain, oil filter and new air filter, plug, cam clearances checked, Took off all the plastics, removed the old sticker kit and cleaned them up, heat gunned the scratches out, new front muddy, new stickers and I believe its good to go

Good work! Whats in the bath? some kind of acid? Do be careful whatever youve used doesnt travel up inside the sheething. One bit of advice. Where you can, try and stagger the cuts when repairing looms so that you dont end up with a thick lump when its re-taped.

I do love this time of year when you lot in the Northern Hemisphere pull your bikes out and prep them for another season of riding. Always nice to see them sparkle in the sun!

Alkali (Baking powder solution) in the second. Once its finished fizzing in the alkali, dry off, and spray with brake cleaner before crimping.

Today I have been repairing a temperature sender. While waiting for various parts to arrive in the post, I thought to overcome a small problem that I’m sure all LC owners have to deal with from time to time. The spade connector atop the temperature sender is apt to snap off. This one from the donor bike has. In the past I have soldered a wire to the top of the sender and connected to the loom that way, but it has always been a bit fragile. This time I was determined to find a better solution. Using a spade connector from the electrical repairs box… Clean up the little knob on the top of the sender with a dremmel. Scrub the whole top of the sender clean with brake cleaner and a toothbrush. Cut down the new spade connector and drill a 3mm hole in it. Tin the top of the sender using copious amounts of flux. Tin the spade connector using copious amounts of flux. Place the hole over the knob, and heat until the solder flows. job done I’ll put a blob of epoxy adhesive on top later, and paint it green.

Bikes always on battery tender, yet was dead as a door nail today. It’s an old school acid version from Jan 2020. Took it out…. And it was dry… And I mean…this dry… I blame this new fangled battery tender…. Genius my arse….Pretty lights though.

Clocked up 500 running in miles on the rebuilt 4L0 and ran it to around 8 through the gears on local bypass, runs well. Gradually introducing the engine to higher revs now.

I'm not as such using mine as I'm so silly busy at the moment. However I did get the engine back together with a new idle gear bush, and it seems to have worked. I also had a slipping clutch problem when the engine isn't quite warm enough. I checked the clutch plates and they are within spec. I suspected the 10/40w oil was to blame so I've switched to silkolene light gear oil - but it still seems to slip after a 6km test ride so I don't know. Perhaps the springs are too soft. I'm not that anal about it being totally tip-top. I'm just using it for some fun rides once in a while so as long as it's working when it's warmed up properly I'll be happy Going for a 150km ride friday

I'm Not using my bike much as it seems to be attracting the attention of the police a bit too much lately. In the last 2 weeks or so i have been stopped 3 times. Speeding (ouch), no indicators and the last time was no mirrors. The lack of mirrors and the indicators are not ilegal due to the age of the bike. I think because it's a 250 you have to rev it a bit harder and thats whats attracting them.

Also make sure your oil is the wet clutch spec - think its MA2

Trial fitted different wheels. Not keen on them. 🤔 So started stripping the paint off the other wheels, keeps me warm!
