Bit of tarting up needed so got the thermostat out and drilled a 3mm hole. Then got rid of this ![](http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o318/hardhat_harry/IMAG0708_zpse42fd128.jpg) By creating this on the trusty lathe ![](http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o318/hardhat_harry/IMAG0710_zpscfd7b2be.jpg) measurements of the pin are 2.9mm at the end raising to 3.2mm at the top with a 7.4mm head. ![](http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o318/hardhat_harry/IMAG0712_zpsc54752e3.jpg) Then using locktight and driven into the hole ![](http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o318/hardhat_harry/IMAG0713_zpse7b25b73.jpg) Looks a lot better

Dropped all the bits for powdercoating off at Hi-Tech Powdercoating (Rainford) Ltd yesterday and today they rang me up, all done!! I have used these guys before and they are really good ![](http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o318/hardhat_harry/Mobile%20Uploads/IMAG0921_zpsq7j6updi.jpg) ![](http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o318/hardhat_harry/Mobile%20Uploads/IMAG0924_zpsnzhdek55.jpg) ![](http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o318/hardhat_harry/Mobile%20Uploads/IMAG0925_zpsqjzsfpcy.jpg) and its those little touches, my plan was to give a light dusting of black 2 pack over the numbers but now I think I will lacquer them with 2 stroke pipe lacquer ![](http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o318/hardhat_harry/Mobile%20Uploads/IMAG0927_zpstr4geazn.jpg) All those bits were done for £80 and they will do wheels at £60 a set

Nah lathe
Here is the technical bit so I believe
third vertical axis bolts to cross slide in place of tool post, the chuck then houses the cutter, the job sits off the third axis, cross slide and longtitudenal slide are the other 2 axes. instant horizontal mill..

This can be done on a lathe, it just takes longer than using a lathe and mill.
He's done a nice job though with using a ball nose cutter for stress relief as well as decoration.

nice work , i take it you always pack the rod openings on the crankcase with rags ,to stop the gudgeon pin circlip from dissapearing down there ?
|
|
|
Post by hardhatharry on Jan 18, 2014 23:01:46 GMT 1
Yep always pack the holes with rags coz if the gudgeon pin clips springs back they can fly anywhere and you don't want them in your crankcase

Just read your post on the "Insurance" thread and noticed the gsxr swing arm listed in your bikes spec, I am in the process of fitting that arm to my LC, although I am going to fabricate a top brace for the shock mount rather than going the whole hog and fitting the linkage, you have made a crackin job of it and great to see it has been done so successfully, was a bit concerned about the width interfering with the footrest hangers and the the back brake master cylinder in particular, gives me a bit more confidence that you have overcome these issues. You have a great bike there and have documented the build very thoroughly. Excellent work, Enjoy!

Had a bit of a nightmare with the forks, originally they were gold and I wanted satin black, they were stripped and the tubes were set off to a large firm who will remain nameless they attempted to anodise them 3 times but the finish was terrible (the price they were asking wasn't cheap either). After the 3rd attempt I told them the tubes were fit for the bin and walked out the door without paying they didn't argue. Did a bit of searching and went a guy in Runcorn who did polishing and anodising. When I got there I found he did it all in a shed in the back garden uh-oh I though, but then I came to the conclusion he cant be any worse than the last lot, after a week and a half they were ready what a result and cheap too, deffo use him again. ![](http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o318/hardhat_harry/Mobile%20Uploads/IMAG1014_zpsuv2entjo.jpg)
