Hurry up and get it done and I'll ride it around for ya (shakedown and all that) ;D ;D You're lucky you got those black chrome Microns ;D . They are what I had on me Mars Bar 350LC when I was 18 and was sitting there with £300 on the bid button but at the last minute changed me mind cos they they were not what I want on my latest Mars bar and doubt I would ever have have used em.....

You got nuts to do that lol ;D I cringe at the thought of getting aluminium dust up me nose! I like the matt finish the bead blasting has given it if I'm honest. If only you lived closer mate I would come down and have a look, to see whats what and may be give you a hand with it. Non of my mates are into bikes any more, let alone nasty old school two strokers like every one on here likes ;D. Not many lads our age who build up bikes like this on there own Adam

Theres a few RS125's around and a Mito thats quite local. Alot of the others just jump on restricted 600's Oh well i'll stick to my dirty old smokers. As for ally polishing black snots all part of the fun lol

Would be a bugger to keep clean if left matt as it it still quite rough from the blasting, polishing won't take to long I'll take a look around for the images, i'll let you know if i get stuck

A matt clearcoat on the swinger would look the nuts

A matt clearcoat on the swinger would look the nuts Actually it wouldn't. I tried spraying clear coat on a sandblasted surface and it just became grey. No fancy bling whatsoever, it looked like el-cheapo, grey powdercoating. Look at the water hose connector at the rear of the head, that's blasted and clear coated.

Bit more done today, got a new mig welder for Christmas, so gave it a whirl. Don’t worry ive only tacked it so excuse the awful welds been welding for 4 hours now. A local engineering firm are doing the final welds for me. Got the replacement centre stand box section made up and tacked in. measure 30 times cut twice weld once. Hopefully going to make up the rest of the linkage mounts out of MDF tomorrow as a template. Piccccs I now have wireless access in the garage, useful for referring to NikFubars thread for how he’s done his mounts. Engine mounted for the 1st time in the frame to keep everything true and straight. Still fits Take 1 length of box section Get filing Had to spread the frame in order to get it in, threaded bar I found under my tool box done the trick It fits, happy days Trued everything up, nice and straight and tacked it in place Used a piece of stainless round bar though the peg mounts as my reference point, this also allowed me to check the frame was straight using this as a start point then measuring to different locations each side. End for now....

Bit more progress today, finished the other mount off. Once again excuse the cack welds there all getting redone soon. I was missing a bearing spacer on the linkages, step forward no good TZR front spindle. Perfect fit OD and ID just needed to make it the right length. To think my neighbour was going to throw that out……fecking heavy mind you That’ll do for now till I can use the college lathes and some proper material. Made up a template out of MDF for the linkage Started marking out the metal version, bolted through to make sure everything stays in place. Lost a knuckle on the vice. Chain drilled everything to speed it up Cleaned up with the angle grinder, then a flap wheel Clamped down Tacked in place Now I need to make some of these once college is open again.

Superb! Loving your work Sean! That new cross brace looks much better than the old rusty thing you had and should add some strength too I would hope. Your welds dont look too bad either for a first attempt and fine as tacks of course. Going to be a great looker when done i reckon.

You can just turn the swinger upside down and weld a beacket on the top that way you have an lc style A frame on top

Post by seanrd on Jan 5, 2011 15:25:52 GMT 1
I looked at that Norbo, problem was the chain run, the chain side this way up has a shorter brace to clear it all, once flipped the other side would be that side and there would be no room for the chain. If that makes sense??
