Spent half an hour on the loom 😒
They are usually manky round about the oil tank but FFS this one is manky all over.
Been at it with a rag and acetone and cut all the loose tape off. What a sticky mess
Its never going to look like new but most wires seem intact
Healight bulb connector is knackered, one wire out and 1 wire broken/missing
Twin horn loom shagged too. I'll patch the tape and see if I can persuade it onto the bike

Obviously hang up to dry afterwards!!

Oil tank fittings from Norbo arrived Also stripped, sanded and painted the tail light backplate. The earth spade connector broke so another little job needed 🙄 Steve

Decided I better make a start on sorting the rear disc alignment Need a 6mm disc spacer so took a slab of 10mm alloy plate and started cutting it down to size OD needs to be just under 150mm so cut out a square, drilled a centre hole then machined the corners off Next I'll have to work out how to mount it on a faceplate and get it on the lathe to make it round lol Steve

How big is the chuck on your lathe? Do the dogs reverse? Mind you 5 mm isn’t much to grip if they do

How big is the chuck on your lathe? Do the dogs reverse? Mind you 5 mm isn’t much to grip if they do I have internal and external jaws for the chuck but it isn't big enough to grab the outside Once I cut the inside hole it would probably go on the chuck to cut the outer My plan was to remove the chuck and fit the face plate. I drilled the centre hole so I could centre it on the faceplate using the tailstock centre then clamp the octagonal bit of 10mm plate to the faceplate I eed a recess on the inner hub side to locate onto the hub and a lip on the outer face to locate the disc onto hence why I'm using 10mm plate for a 6mm spacer Hopefully the chuck will unscrew easily 🤣 I was looking for a bigger chuck for the lathe but wasn't sure which fitted as not sure of the thread size The other option I thought of was to buy a rotary table and chuck for the mill I'll work it out in the end lol Steve

make a dummy shaft up and put it through the centre of the plate, put some big washers either side and then tighten it up, I normally use a set bolt or allen bolt, then hold that in the jaws of the lathe and turn the outside down to size - hope that is clear ? good to see the old miller working

if you know what size the centre hole is going to be then make it that size so you can make the biggest shaft/bolt possible, that way you can tighen it better so less chance of it slipping, just take small cuts and it will be fine

Messed around a little with the lathe today Removed the chuck and fitted the faceplate Jammed the workpiece against the faceplate with a revolving centre to see how it was going to work Started gently cutting the outer edge to make it round, nearly there The bad news is that there is a run out on my faceplate so I won't be able to cut the face down to 6mm this way Steve

Plan for today was to trial fit the forks/yokes onto the bike to check the lock stops Pressed the bearing onto the bottom yoke then found the bottom of the frame headstock hits the yoke so a spacer is needed under the bearing Very steep learning curve as I switched the lathe on and set about making a 3mm spacer Drilled a 17mm hole in the centre then opened up to 30mm with a boring bar before cutting 3mm off That sounds easy but took over an hour 🤣 Was still quicker than either buying a 5mm one then having to wait for post or getting one made Steve I’ve only just noticed this you naughty boy. Disconnected interlock tut tut. Jon

Disconnected interlock tut tut. Jon Lol That's when I first got it and had issues with the overload tripping out so I bypassed everything and wired the 415v straight onto the direction switch 😬 A new motor later it is all reinstated, overload and all 4 safety switches 😁 If you look at the pic in the post before yours you can see the switch is functional... ...I've just stuck a cable tie on it 🤣 Steve

Yes I saw that too. Don’t let our SHE manager at work see that or you’ll be in trouble 🤣 Jon The problem is that when you are working close to the chuck the safety guard gets in the way of the cross slide One other thing the old school lathe does us give you a heat off the angle poise lamp Good old 24v tungsten filament lamp gives off as much heat as light 😆 Steve

I’ve got a 240v 120w spot lamp above mine. Below it is a shelf for tools. If you leave a tool there for any length of time next time you pick it up you have to throw it in the coolant tray quick.🤣
