Had bits of this one since January since it was dropped off Progress is slow especially now I'm back at work full time Frame is a UK 4L0 but it's had some abuse and some bodges Its an early non tie bar frame but someone had added tie bars but totally hopeless job. Pigeon sh1t welding onto the side rails only so no actual support. They had been removed from the donor frame with an angle grinder so too much meat lost to make them work Here's the frame as it is just now

Here is the tie bar area now Thankfully I also found someone chopping a frame so donor bits sorted

Made a start on the stand rail replacement by cutting slots with a dremel down the tubes, I'll cut the frame section to match Doing it that way so it goes in at the right angle

Engine is already done as I built it last year Mutts sorted the basics. Exhaust stud holes welded up and redrilled/tapped, bored to 0.25, new pistons, crank rebuilt etc Andy did the vapour blasting and I assembled it all Steve

Decided to see how the rear hub fitted in the arm It will have spoked wheels, had 3 hub options One TDR250 hub, one RD400 hub and took a gamble and bought a billet cnc'd hub made for a DRZ400sm with a cush drive First choice was the billet one as it was 20mm spindle like the swing arm Reckon there is plenty of room in the arm. At least with a spoked wheel you can get the rim laced on offset to give an extra few mm if needed but think it will be ok Luckily the DRZ sprocket is 520 and available cheaply as a 41t Steve

Did the bit I'd been dreading, cut the centre stand rail to fit I was a bit concerned the newly converted swing arm didn't fit, 1 or 2mm too wide Now I'm not doubting Nigel at NK so I suspected the frame had been pinched a bit. At first I suspected the swing arm had been horsed up without any shims but when I compared the stand frame rail the twisting had pulled it in a bit An hour with a hydraulic jack and an angle grinder I think it is ready to tack in Steve

Nice work Steve. That is some impressive cutting. Are you gonna do the welding yourself now that you have been dabbling with the sparky thing? 😎 John

Nice work Steve. That is some impressive cutting. Are you gonna do the welding yourself now that you have been dabbling with the sparky thing? 😎 John Cheers John, was putting it off for ages but I'll soon have to send the hubs away to get built so need to be able to mock up a rolling chassis Welding wise I've just tacked it in just now Need to make a bigger tab for the steering stop then fit a set of engine cases temporarily so I can tack in tie bar brackets I'll have another practice with the welder on cut offs from an LC frame then decide whether to do it myself or take to a mate Steve

Good progress Steve. Had to do some chopping on my project frame so know how you felt. I don't have a welder so used local garage for that bit, wasn't a lot of money and at least I knew it was done to a high standard.

Sadly this is the kind of work we are going to have to do now that the bottom of the barrel has been reached for bikes to rebuild. I did a similar big frame repair on my F2 frame so know the effort that is behind these pics to not only check everything is in place but also work out where to cut and how much etc. Its quite mentally taxing really, but the results are worth it I think. Good progress mate!

I tacked the centre stand rail in a while ago but last night I cut the engine tie bar mount brackets to size and tacked them in Popping by a mates today who is going to weld it all up Don't want to risk my welding on structural stuff Dropped the front hub off to get ceramic coated black. When it's back I'll get the wheels away to get rims laced on Steve

That's a nice swing arm Steve. If it was easier to convert I'd have had one in a ypvs lol Its a bit different than the usual suspects Frame all welded up now, even got a welding lesson which was appreciated, cheers Rod 👍 Steve

Yes tyres too! And you cannot get specific tyres at the moment, have been waiting for months to get a supercorsa rear, Pirelli now say November!
Sprockets too, Renthal seem to have nothing!
Aaaaaarh!

Only thing that seems an option is either Avon AM26's or Bridgestone BT090's ☹

Only thing that seems an option is either Avon AM26's or Bridgestone BT090's ☹ Steve Actually, i put some AM26's on my standard 4LO earlier this year and i think they are superb, i much prefer them to the previous BT45's, cannot comment on the Bridgestone's as i have never used them but they have been around for a while.
