Just a little back story on my bike. So in back in 1979 after starting on a Suzuki A50 graduating to a BSA 250 Starfire and passing my test in 1981 , at the age of 19 i managed to persuade my dad to stand guarantor on a brand new black mars bar Yamaha Rd350lc .Bought for £1100 from D.C.Cooks in Small Heath Birmingham. ( + Hire purchase costs ) Camera phones as we all know didn’t exist so I only have 1 photo. The 1st 6 months of ownership were great. As soon as it rained it would run on to 1 cylinder or wouldn’t start, took me ages to figure out it was those stupid metal shrouds around the plug caps that were arcing out in the wet weather. Had a bad accident after 12 months Spent time in hospital and still have the Scars on my arm, leg and lung which was punctured. I rebuilt it the first time in 1989. . Rode it to the TT in 1995 In 1996 on the way from the TT the crankseals went, not far from home managed to get back but lost the use of 5/6 gears. She’s stood in the garage ever since. I’ve always intended to get her back on the road so have been collecting spares for the last 15 years or so. Earlier in 2019 I decided to try and get her ready to take to this years Classic TT. Stripping her down to the frame I sent various parts off to be powder coated. Had the seat recovered which they did a good job on to be fair.. Started the rebuild last week , bought new fork stantions Fitted new fork seals, head bearings, refurbed clocks with new casings. New ignition , helmet lock and petrol cap . Fitted a new wiring loom I bought around 10 years ago and kept in the loft. Sorted around 95% of that but still have a few loose connectors 😳. I’ve fitted the old oil for now but I have a set of Banshees to fit when I’ve sorted out some wiring. Bought a Hagen shock fitted that. Came to fit the swinging arm but stupidly a few years ago bought needle roller bearing conversion kit from Yam bits but they don’t fit, so I’m now waiting for a set of bronze bushes I’ve ordered from Norbo. That’s about it up to now. I’m pleased with progress in just a week, but foul weather’s stopped play.

Great story/pictures, are you going to address the main stand no longer lifting the rear wheel off the ground issue?

They are by far the funniest door hinges I have ever seen. Great project too!

They'll never suspect there's anything valuable in there, that's for sure.

I’ve never had any problems with my centre stand earthman . My bikes done 20,000 miles so at the moment it’s been fine. Wether that will change in the future I don’t know.

I rebuilt it the first time in 1989. . This is the photo that Earthman has commented on regarding your centre stand - the rear tyre should be up in the air, not touching the ground. It is a common problem and can be fixed by welding a couple of extra pieces of flat steel to the top of the stand where the frame rests on and Earthman is just asking whether you have had it done before powder-coating the stand.

Oh.. I do apologise earthman , thanks for pointing that out. Do you know what I wasn’t even aware. I didn’t think I had a problem but .. I’ll have to let you guys know when the wheels are back in.. I’ll be well pissed if that is the case and I didn’t realise 🤬.

I've done a few centre stands now where i welded round plates about the size of a tenpence, but 5mm thick on top of both legs of the centre stand. It sits the bike up nice. Sometimes slightly too high so 4mm probably better.

Thanks Dusty. A big thanks to shaunthe2nd too Who pointed me in the right direction with my tank decals. I took a ride up to Ilkeston on Monday to image works ( in the rain ) bought a 3rd set of decals from them and they fitted them for me. I or the painter just couldn’t get them to fit around the tank .

Its always worth a trip to Image Works. I couldn't even get the front muddy stripe correct, let alone the tank decals. Glad it worked out for you, tank looks great.

Sorted the rear indicators new backlight and a stainless grab rail from Norbo. Filled my front forks as per forum advice 👍140mm air space and replaced front springs with Hagon items. Fitted my Banshee coils, from Norbo . Fitted front mudguard with stainless stay. I’m using a lot of stainless bolts where possible, I just think it looks nicer imo. Front indicators on , speedo and rev counter cables fitted handle bars on and new switches. Wiring harness virtually finished now just the engine electrics to fit when the engines built. She’s coming along .

It's an easy engine to do. Just a few special tools needed, and general workshop stuff. And if you need any help or encouragement, just ask Dusty

Got my wheels back from C j Ward, they did a good job to be fair bearings fitted front and rear , Had the footrest and exhaust hangers powder coated black, bit the bullet and coughed up for new footrests. Had a few problems fitting the blue/ silver spot callipers , I bought the adapters from this forum last year and didn’t realise they would need spacers but after I posted a few questions it was soon sorted I’ve had a few problems along the way especially with the electrics, couldn’t get the clock lights and side lights to work for love nor money spent a long time on the problem , even reconnecting the old switches, I was beginning to think it was the new wiring harness.Turned out to be the fuse had slipped down in the holder and wasn’t making a connection 🤦🏼♂️. Fitted the new horns I bought some 10 years ago and the low tone doesn’t work. Fitted the old one and that worked just fine, gonna leave that for another day, probably end up getting a new set.I couldn’t get a new plastic cover, so I’m having to use the beaten up old one at the moment. Norbo’s stopped stocking them. So we’re up to about here now.

Hi mate, I’m sure I put a wanted ad up on here and someone was selling a pair of used ones that a forum member had made yonks ago But he’d not made or sold any for a very long time. You have to either persevere and wait for a second hand pair to come up or buy a new set from NK Racing.

Hi mate That engine looks mint Great work. Last couple I've built I didn't bother with spacers. Do use some sealant each side of the gaskets though, as this area is often the source of air leaks when doing a leak down/pressure test. Dusty
