Just a little back story on my bike.
So in back in 1979 after starting on a Suzuki A50 graduating to a BSA 250 Starfire and passing my test in 1981 , at the age of 19 i managed to persuade my dad to stand guarantor on a brand new black mars bar Yamaha Rd350lc .Bought for £1100 from D.C.Cooks in Small Heath Birmingham. ( + Hire purchase costs )
Camera phones as we all know didn’t exist so I only have 1 photo.
The 1st 6 months of ownership were great. As soon as it rained it would run on to 1 cylinder or wouldn’t start, took me ages to figure out it was those stupid metal shrouds around the plug caps that were arcing out in the wet weather.
Had a bad accident after 12 months
Spent time in hospital and still have the Scars on my arm, leg and lung which was punctured.
I rebuilt it the first time in 1989.
.
Rode it to the TT in 1995
In 1996 on the way from the TT the crankseals went, not far from home managed to get back but lost the use of 5/6 gears.
She’s stood in the garage ever since. I’ve always intended to get her back on the road so have been collecting spares for the last 15 years or so.
Earlier in 2019 I decided to try and get her ready to take to this years Classic TT.
Stripping her down to the frame I sent various parts off to be powder coated.
Had the seat recovered which they did a good job on to be fair..
Started the rebuild last week , bought new fork stantions
Fitted new fork seals, head bearings, refurbed clocks with new casings. New ignition , helmet lock and petrol cap .
Fitted a new wiring loom I bought around 10 years ago and kept in the loft. Sorted around 95% of that but still have a few loose connectors 😳.
I’ve fitted the old oil for now but I have a set of Banshees to fit when I’ve sorted out some wiring.
Bought a Hagen shock
fitted that.
Came to fit the swinging arm but stupidly a few years ago bought needle roller bearing conversion kit from Yam bits but they don’t fit, so I’m now waiting for a set of bronze bushes I’ve ordered from Norbo.
That’s about it up to now. I’m pleased with progress in just a week, but foul weather’s stopped play.
