Had a crash today on the rd. Decided to use a transit van to stop me instead of brakes. Been in hospital for 3 hrs. Awaiting ct results. Any advice what I should do about bike? Do i notify insurance about crash or just fix bike?

Depends if the van driver is going through insurance or not, and how much damage you have done to your bike.
Hope you are okay.

Hi if van drivers claiming off your ins then you may as well claim for your bike if your fully comp as you gonna lose your no claims anyway. Hope you have a speedy recovery

Hey Mellow, hope you are ok.
I didn't claim when i crashed, but no one else involved and i think they would have written it off anyway, which i didn't want!

Depends on your insurance if they let you keep it if they write it off (which could happen as the parts are obsolete )I’m sure I paid extra to make sure it got returned to me

Ouch, hope you both get fixed soon. Personally i would claim, i wouldn't worry about having a insurance marker on an old bike, in fact many would have been crashed and claimed before electronic records were kept. If it was a new bike, then i wouldn't want a cat c/d or whatever the latest equivalent is as devalues it significantly and makes harder to sell.

Oh that's going to be painful
Claim everything you can from the insurance, we have paid the premiums long enough
You will definitely need a new helmet and possibly leathers
It wasn't your F2 was it?

That’s bad luck Mick.
Make sure you get decent pain killers as I cracked a rib or two in a go-cart crash.
Pain was okay at the time, and just winded, but in the evening it hurt like hell.
Steve, I fear it was his mint F2, as I think his other bikes are an R1 and a DT?

5 fractured ribs and airleak in chest. Air leak in your chest or a punctured lung? I doubt they will let you go home with a punctured lung .. and broken ribs can be very painful too

Oof. Gws. I got knocked off a few years back and broke 2 or 3 ribs. The pain was as bad as when i broke my back. Take the drugs to make sure you are breathing properly, otherwise you run the risk of getting a lung infecting and a cough. You don't want that! They took over two months to heal for me. Don't be surprised if they hurt more in a fortnight than they do now either. Hope that doesn't sound negative! Really wish you all the best with it.

Hi, Just saw your post, Sorry to hear of your ‘off’, Hoping you make a full and speedy recovery.
Just wanted to say insurance companies no longer seem to be allowing you to ‘buy back’ your vehicle at it’s ‘scrap’ value, so I would be cautious about claiming & potentially losing the bike unless you can replace for the agreed value?. A chap at work had an immaculate Polo GTi , someone ran into the back of him and the insurance wrote it off. He tried to buy it back but they wanted around £200 less than the current market value, so it obviously wasn’t worth him doing, even to break for spares.
Maybe bike insurance is different?, but I wouldn’t want you to risk your bike.
Anyway less of the negativity, get well soon bud 👍🏻

Not good hope you recover OK, I'm 4 weeks into trying to get my bike and gear sorted after my accident and I'm already p)**$ed off with insurance companies it seem like they deliberately make it difficult.

Thanks for the well wishes guys. Came home today. Have 4 fractured lower ribs on left side and small pneumothorax. That's air entered through chest cavity making the lung collapse. Had one 30 years ago on same lung. Kept me in to see if it sorts itself or wether they need to insert needle to get air out. Got to back friday for another scan. As only small its not very painful, whereas the ribs hurt like f**k.especially when coughing and moving. Had quick look at bike. bodywork all looks ok apart from bit of crazing on top fairing, lug on top of mid fairing which joins to top fairing snapped. Forks are like bananas so guessing upper & lower yokes bent as one bar almost hits tank. Gear lever is also f**ked. Thats about all i can see but when i can move a bit better il look. Thanks again ps.....the real pisser to cap it all was i was supposed to be at the 02 tonight watching nickelback on their new tour. cant go to that either

Thanks for well wishes. from your description of damage to van was the accident your fault ? or did they pull out in front of you ? bit of a dilemma as to claim or not ,, if forks as you say are like bannanas then bike will definatley be writ off ,, give some serious thought to the situation , but mainly get better yourself and wishing you a speedy recovery ..

Sorry to hear about your accident. Get well soon. I've done a couple of ribs before and they took ages to heal so take it easy. And good luck with the bike. Best wishes Dusty

My fault. Traffic was crawling as cars turning off for event. Was going slow looked in mirror when I looked back van had stopped and I was right on it. Got it on video. Looks like forks hit bumper & compressed. I went over top fairing grabbing indicator on way over .bike sprang back then landed on me on the floor. Guess that's y no panel damage.
